This is an abridged user's manual for the VTech DS6611, DS6611-2, and DS6611-3 DECT 6.0 cordless telephones with Bluetooth wireless technology.
Important Safety Instructions
Always follow basic safety precautions when using telephone equipment to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury. Key instructions include:
- Read and understand all instructions.

- Power adapters should be oriented correctly and not plugged into ceiling, under-table, or cabinet outlets if they cannot hold the plug.
- For pluggable equipment, the socket-outlet must be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible.
- Use only the specified rechargeable batteries (BT183342/BT283342) and do not dispose of batteries in fire or expose them to extreme conditions.
- Use only the included adapter; incorrect polarity or voltage can damage the product.
Battery Precautions: Use only provided or equivalent batteries. Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Handle batteries with care to avoid short circuits. Charge only as specified.
Pacemaker Precautions: Keep wireless telephones at least six inches from pacemakers. Do not place wireless telephones directly over the pacemaker. Use the telephone at the ear opposite the pacemaker.
About Cordless Telephones: Calls are transmitted via radio waves, so conversations may be intercepted. The base requires a working electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch. Some cordless phones may cause TV/VCR interference; avoid placing the base near these devices.

Display Icons Overview
- Battery Icon: Flashes when low, animates when charging, solid when fully charged.
- ECO: ECO mode reduces power consumption.
- Voicemail Indicator: Indicates new voicemail from service provider.
- Home Line Indicator: On when home line is in use or for incoming home call. Flashes for incoming home waiting call.
- Bluetooth Indicator (1 or 2): Indicates Bluetooth devices connected.
- Cell Line Indicator: On when cell line is in use or for incoming cell call. Flashes for incoming cell waiting call.
- NEW: Indicates new Caller ID log entries.
- Ringer Off Indicator: Handset ringer is off.
Connecting and Installing
The telephone base can be connected for desktop or wall mounting.
Connecting the Telephone Base
For Desktop Use: Connect the telephone line cord to the telephone base and the wall jack. Connect the power adapter to the base and an electrical outlet.
For Wall Mounting: Unplug existing connections. Route the telephone line cord through the wall mount bracket. Plug both ends of the line cord into the base and wall outlet. Align the bracket with the wall plate and slide down. Align the base grooves with the bracket tabs and slide down. Connect the power adapter.
DSL/VoIP Note: If using DSL high-speed internet, install a DSL filter between the telephone line cord and the wall jack.
Connecting the Charger
Connect the charger's power adapter to the charger and an electrical outlet.
Installing and Charging the Battery
Install Battery: Install the supplied battery into the handset as shown in the diagrams (refer to manual diagrams for specific placement). Use only the supplied battery. If the handset is not used for a long time, disconnect and remove the battery.
Charge Battery: Place the handset in the telephone base or charger. The CHARGE light remains on while charging. For best performance, keep the handset in the base or charger when not in use. Full charge takes approximately 12 hours.
Battery Status Indicators:
- Blank screen or "Put in charger" with flashing icon: Battery has no or very little charge. Charge without interruption (at least 30 minutes).
- "Low battery" and flashing icon: Battery has enough charge for short use. Charge without interruption (at least 30 minutes).
- "HANDSET X" displayed: Battery is charged.
Before Use: Setting Date and Time
After installation or power restoration, the handset will prompt you to set the date and time.
- Press MENU when the phone is not in use.
- Scroll to Settings, press SELECT twice.
- Scroll to Set date/time, press SELECT.
- Enter month (MM), date (DD), year (YY) using dialing keys, then press SELECT.
- Enter hour (HH), minute (MM), choose AM/PM using dialing keys, then press SELECT.
- Press SELECT to save.
Checking for Dial Tone
Press /HOME. If you hear a dial tone, installation is successful. If not, recheck installation or contact your service provider regarding wiring or service type (DSL/VoIP).
Operating Range
The cordless telephone operates within a certain distance, which varies based on location, weather, and layout. If the handset is out of range, the display will show "Out of range" or "no pwr at base". If a call comes in while out of range, it may not ring or connect properly. Move closer to the base to answer or improve reception.
Bluetooth Connectivity
Pair and connect Bluetooth-enabled cell phones or headsets to the telephone base for use with the cell line. Bluetooth operates within a short range (approx. 30 feet). For optimal performance, keep your cell phone within 15 feet of the base while using the cell line.
Pairing a Bluetooth Cell Phone
- On the telephone base, press and hold CELL 1 or CELL 2/HEADSET until you hear a tone and the light flashes.
- Turn on the Bluetooth feature of your cell phone. Find "VTech DS6611" and follow prompts to pair.
- Your cell phone may ask for the base PIN (default is 0000).
- Once connected, the corresponding status icon (1 or 2) and device light will turn on.
- If pairing fails, turn off Bluetooth on both devices and try again.
Pairing a Bluetooth Headset
- On the handset, press MENU.
- Scroll to Bluetooth, press SELECT.
- Scroll to Add BT headset, press SELECT.
- Set your headset to discoverable mode. Once found, press SELECT on the handset.
- Enter the headset PIN if required (usually 0000).
- A successful connection shows the '2' icon and the CELL 2/HEADSET light turns on.

This application integrates Android phones with the DS6611. Download it via QR code or at https://www.vtechphones.com/app_connect_to_cell.
Downloading Contacts
- On the handset, press MENU.
- Scroll to Bluetooth, press SELECT.
- Scroll to Download PB, press SELECT.
- Select the desired cell phone and press SELECT.
- Some phones may require confirmation on the phone.
- Ensure contacts are in the phone's memory, not just the SIM card, for download. For Android, the VTech Contact Share app can also be used.
Using the Handset Menu
Press MENU when the phone is not in use. Scroll using or buttons to find desired feature menus, then press SELECT to enter. Press CANCEL to go back or hold CANCEL to return to idle mode.
Configuring Your Telephone
- Set Language: MENU → Settings (twice) → choose English, Français, or Español → SELECT.
- Set Date and Time: MENU → Set date/time → SELECT → Enter date/time details → SELECT.
- Temporary Tone Dialing: During a call with pulse service, press the tone button. The phone sends touch-tone signals and reverts to pulse after the call.
Telephone Operation
- Make a Home Call: Press /HOME or , then dial the number. Or, dial the number first, then press /HOME or .
- Make a Cell Call: Press /CELL, then dial the number and press /CELL. Or, dial the number first, then press /CELL. You may need to select a cell device. Keep your cell phone close to the base for best results.
- Answer a Call: Press /HOME, /CELL, , or any dialing key.
- End a Call: Press OFF on the handset or place it in the base/charger.
- Speakerphone: During a call, press to switch between speakerphone and handset.
- Volume: During a call, press /VOLUME/ to adjust listening volume. Earpiece and speakerphone volumes are independent.
- Mute: During a call, press MUTE. The other party cannot hear you. Press MUTE again to resume.
- Call Waiting: If subscribed, hear an alert for an incoming call. Press FLASH (home line) or /CELL 1 or /CELL 2 (cell line) to switch between calls.
- Find Handset: Press /FIND HANDSET on the base to page all idle handsets. Press again or use handset buttons to end paging. Do not hold for more than 4 seconds to avoid deregistration.
- Join a Call: Up to two handsets can join a home line call. Press /HOME or on another handset. Press OFF to exit.
- Intercom: Use for conversations between devices. MENU → Intercom → SELECT → Enter destination number. Answer with /HOME, /CELL, , or dialing key. End with OFF or placing handset in base.
- Transfer a Call: During an outside call, use Intercom to transfer. Put current call on hold, enter destination number. Answer intercom call on destination handset, then press OFF on initiating handset to transfer.
- Answer Incoming Call During Intercom: An alert tone sounds. Press /HOME for a home call (ends intercom). Press OFF for intercom without answering, or press OFF then /CELL for a cell call.
Phonebook and Caller ID
- Phonebook: Stores up to 1000 entries (shared between home/cell lines), up to 30 digits and 15 characters per entry.
- Add Entry: MENU → Phonebook → Add new entry → Enter number → SELECT → Enter name → SELECT to save.
- Review: Press . Scroll or use dialing keys for name search. Press or to dial.
- Delete Entry: When entry displays, press DELETE, then SELECT to confirm.
- Delete All: MENU → Phonebook → Delete all → SELECT (twice).
- Edit Entry: When entry displays, press SELECT → Edit number/name → SELECT to save.
- Caller ID Log: Stores up to 50 entries (up to 24 digits for number, 15 characters for name). Information appears after first/second ring. If answered before info appears, it's not logged.
- Review Log: Press CID. Scroll to browse. Press repeatedly to show dialing options. Press '1' to add/remove '1' prefix. Press or to dial.
- Save to Phonebook: When log entry displays, press SELECT → To Phonebook → SELECT → Modify number/name → SELECT to save.
- Delete Log Entry: When entry displays, press DELETE.
- Delete All Log Entries: MENU → Caller ID log → Delete all → SELECT (twice).
Call Block
Block unknown calls and specific undesired numbers. The call block list stores up to 20 entries.
- Block Unknown Calls: MENU → Call block → Calls w/o num → choose Block or Not block → SELECT.
- Add Entry: MENU → Call block → Block list → Add new entry → Enter number → SELECT → Enter name → SELECT to save.
- Review List: MENU → Call block → Block list → Review → SELECT.
- Edit Entry: When entry displays, press SELECT → Edit number/name → SELECT to save.
- Save Caller ID Entry to Block List: When log entry displays, press SELECT → To Call block → SELECT → Modify number/name → SELECT to save.
- Delete Entry: When entry displays, press DELETE.
Sound Settings
- Key Tone: MENU → Settings → Key tone → On or Off → SELECT.
- Ringer Tone: MENU → Ringers → Home ringtone or Cell ringtone → SELECT → Scroll to sample → SELECT to save.
- Ringer Volume: MENU → Ringers → Home volume or Cell volume → SELECT → Scroll to adjust → SELECT to save. Setting ringer to off silences all incoming calls except paging tone.
- Temporary Ringer Silencing: When ringing, press OFF or MUTE on the handset. The handset displays a silencing icon. The next call rings normally.
Voicemail
Voicemail is a service provider feature. Retrieve voicemail by dialing your provider's access number. Contact your provider for setup and message retrieval instructions.
Turn off New Voicemail Indicators: If indicators remain after checking messages, use MENU → Settings → Clr voicemail → SELECT to turn off indicators only.
Expanding Your Telephone System
You can add compatible expansion handsets (DS6600), cordless headsets, or speakerphones. The base supports a maximum of five devices. Visit www.vtechphone.com for compatible devices.
ECO Mode
This power-conserving technology automatically activates when the handset is synchronized with the base to reduce power consumption and optimize battery performance.

- Handle with Care: Treat the telephone with care; avoid rough handling. Save original packaging for shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Telephone not working: Ensure base is installed properly, battery is installed and charged. Return handset to base after use.
- "No line" / No dial tone: Check line cord, wall jack, and service provider. Contact provider if using new cable/VoIP service.
- Handset shows "To register HS... see manual": Handset is deregistered. Place handset in base to re-register (approx. 90 seconds).
- Cannot connect cell phone/headset: Ensure cellular coverage and Bluetooth is on. Make sure base is in discoverable mode and follow pairing instructions. Ensure Bluetooth device is not connected to another device. Try turning devices off and on again.
- Poor cell reception: Place cell phone in an area with better reception, within 30 feet of the base.
- Accidentally set wrong language: On handset, press MENU then enter 364 to change back to English.
