1 Introduction
The CLIKR™-5 UR5U-8700L & UR5U-8720L are designed to operate Scientific Atlanta, Pioneer, Pace Micro, Samsung, and Motorola digital set-top boxes, along with the majority of TV, VCR, DVD, and AUDIO equipment available on the market. The remote supports control for Cable Converters (CABLE), Televisions (TV), VCRs and TV/VCRs (VCR), DVD Players (DVD), and Audio Receivers and DVRs (AUX).
2 Replacing Batteries
Before programming or operating the remote control, install two new AA alkaline batteries.
- Remove the battery compartment cover on the back of the remote control.
- Check battery polarity carefully and install the batteries as indicated.
- Replace the battery compartment cover.
3 Operations
Default State:
- Component Default: CABLE Set Top Box (STB).
- Channel Default: CABLE channels and numbers are controlled through the CABLE STB. Users can optionally control CABLE channels and numbers via the TV or VCR. Refer to Section F for programming steps.
- Volume Default: Volume and Mute controls automatically transfer to the selected Component mode (CBL: Cable Set Top Box, TV: TV, AUX: AUX). Volume and Mute for VCR and DVD are transferred to the TV by default. Users can optionally control CABLE Volume and Mute through the TV, VCR, or AUX. Refer to Section G for programming steps.
4 Button Functions
This section is mentioned but not detailed in the provided text. It implies the remote has various buttons for controlling different functions of connected devices.
5 Programming the Remote Control
The CLIKR™-5 remote can be programmed using two methods:
- The Pre-Programmed 3-Digit Code Method
- The Auto-Search Method
The Pre-Programmed Code Method is the fastest and easiest, using 3-digit codes specific to a device's manufacturer. The Auto-Search Method scans through all available codes sequentially.
IMPORTANT SETUP NOTE: When in setup mode, a component LED will light for 30 seconds. If no button is pressed within this time, setup mode will exit, and you will need to restart.
A. Pre-Programmed 3-Digit Code Method
- Turn on the Component (TV, VCR, DVD, or AUX) you wish to program.
- Press and hold the desired [COMPONENT] button (e.g., TV, VCR, DVD, AUX) and the [OK/SEL] button simultaneously for 3 seconds. The Component LED will illuminate for 30 seconds, indicating readiness.
- Point the remote at the Component and enter the 3-digit code number for your brand.
- *Note: If the code is correct, the Component will turn off. If not, try the next code listed for that brand until the Component turns off.
- After the Component turns off, press the [POWER] button to turn it back on. Test functions like VOLUME and MUTE (for TV) or PLAY and STOP (for VCR/DVD). If functions do not work correctly, repeat Step 3 with the next code.
- Once the correct 3-digit code is found and functions work, save it by pressing the same [COMPONENT] button again. The Component LED will blink twice to confirm storage.
Repeat Steps 1-5 for other components. If the Pre-Programmed Method fails or the brand is not listed, use the Auto-Search Method (Section B).
B. Auto-Search Method
- Turn on the Component (TV, VCR, DVD, or AUX) you wish to program.
- Press and hold the desired [COMPONENT] button and the [OK/SEL] button simultaneously for 3 seconds. The Component LED will illuminate for 30 seconds.
- Point the remote at the Component and press the [CH] or [CH] button repeatedly or hold it down. The remote will send ON/OFF commands. Release the button as soon as the Component turns off.
- Test functions (as described in Section A, Step 4). If functions are not working correctly, repeat Step 3 using the [CH] or [CH] buttons to find the correct code.
- Save the code (as described in Section A, Step 5).
Repeat the Auto-Search Method for any components not programmed successfully with the Pre-Programmed Method.
C. Finding a Component Button's Setup Code Number
If you used the Auto-Search Method, you can find the assigned code number for future reference:
- Press the desired [COMPONENT] button and the [OK/SEL] button simultaneously for 3 seconds. The Component LED will illuminate for 30 seconds.
- Press the [INFO] button. Count the number of times the Component LED blinks. This sequence indicates the digits of the code, with a one-second pause between digits when the LED turns off.
- *Note: 10 blinks represent the number zero. For example, one blink, pause, eight blinks, pause, and three blinks indicate code number 183.
D. AUX Function: Programming a 5th Component
The AUX function can be used to program a fifth component (e.g., a second TV, VCR, DVD, or Audio Component).
- Turn on the 5th Component.
- Press and hold the [AUX] button and the [OK/SEL] button simultaneously for 3 seconds. The [AUX] Component LED will illuminate for 30 seconds.
- Press the desired [COMPONENT] button. Point the remote at the Component and enter the 3-digit code number for its brand.
- *Note: If the code is correct, the Component will turn off. If not, continue trying other codes for that brand.
- Test functions (as in Section A, Step 4). If functions are not working, repeat Step 3 with a new code.
- Save the code by pressing the [AUX] button again. The Component LED will blink twice to confirm storage. All buttons will now operate the 5th Component when the AUX button is pressed.
E. Programming the System On/Off Button
This feature allows the System On/Off button to control power for up to five components with a single press.
- Press the [CBL] button.
- Press and hold the [SYSTEM ON/OFF] button and the [OK/SEL] button simultaneously for 3 seconds. The [CBL] button will illuminate for 30 seconds.
- Press the first [COMPONENT] button you want to control, followed by the [POWER] button. Repeat this for all desired components.
- Press the [CH] button to save the power commands. The [CBL] button will blink twice to confirm.
F. Programming Channel Control
Channel controls (Channel Up, Channel Down, Last, and Numbers) can be programmed to operate in different component modes. Default settings are:

Custom-programmable Macro buttons can be set up as 'Macro' or Favorite Channel buttons in CABLE mode. This allows programming up to five 2-digit, four 3-digit, or three 4-digit channels accessible with one button press.
- Select CBL mode by pressing the [CBL] button.
- Press and hold the [MACRO] button and [OK/SEL] button simultaneously for 3 seconds. The [CBL] button will illuminate for 30 seconds.
- Enter the 2, 3, or 4-digit channel code (e.g., 007) using the Number Pad, then press [STOP]. Repeat for subsequent channels, pressing [STOP] after each. The [CBL] button will blink once per channel entered.
- Press the [CH] button to save the selected channels. The [CBL] button will blink twice to confirm.
To access programmed channels, press the [MACRO] button. Each press cycles through the programmed channels.
