II. Installation
The Edimax EW-7438RPn Mini supports three operating modes:
1. WLAN Signal Extender (Wi-Fi Extender)
The device wirelessly connects to your existing network and repeats the WLAN signal.
- Placement: For optimal performance, place the extender approximately halfway between your existing wireless router/access point and the area with poor reception. The extender must receive a good Wi-Fi signal from the router/access point.
2. WLAN Adapter/Wireless Bridge (Wi-Fi Adapter/Wi-Fi Bridge)
Connect an Ethernet device (e.g., game console, smart TV) to the extender via an Ethernet cable, and provide wireless internet access to that device.
- Placement: Place the device within WLAN coverage, near the wired network device.
3. WLAN Access Point (Wi-Fi Access Point)
Connect the device via Ethernet cable to your existing router, and provide wireless internet access to your network devices.
- Placement: Connect the device via Ethernet cable to your router.
Installation Steps:
- Plug the Edimax EW-7438RPn Mini into an electrical outlet.
- The green Power LED will blink while the extender is starting up. Once the green Power LED is solid, the device is ready for use.
- Connect your WLAN device to the SSID "EdimaxEXT.Setup**". The last two characters (**) are unique to your device. Ensure all Ethernet cables are disconnected from your computer if you are using one for setup.
- Open a web browser. If you are not automatically directed to the "Get Started" screen, enter the URL http://edimaxext.setup and click "Get Started" to begin the setup process.
- Select the operating mode for your Edimax EW-7438RPn Mini.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for your chosen mode to complete the installation.
- After installation, you can download the EdiRange app by scanning the QR code below or the one on the Access Key card. This app allows you to manage functions like scheduling WLAN activation/deactivation or enabling/disabling guest network access in Extender mode.
For advanced configuration, use the browser-based configuration interface at http://edimaxext.setup (refer to the user manual for detailed information).

If you cannot access http://edimaxext.setup, please ensure your computer is set to obtain an IP address dynamically. Refer to the user manual for more information.
III. Resetting the WLAN Signal Extender
If you encounter issues with your WLAN signal extender or wish to change its operating mode, you can restore it to factory default settings. This will reset all settings to their default values.
- Press and hold the WPS/Reset button for at least 10 seconds, until the green Power LED starts blinking. Then release the button.
- Wait for the WLAN signal extender to reboot. When the green Power LED is solid, the extender is ready for setup.
IV. WPS
If your wireless router/access point supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), you can use this method to set up your WLAN signal extender.
- Activate the WPS function by pressing the WPS button on your wireless router/access point. (Please consult your wireless router/access point manual for instructions on how long to press the WPS button.)
- Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the WLAN signal extender for two seconds. The green WPS LED on the extender should blink, indicating that WPS is active.
- The devices will establish a connection. The connection is successful when the green WPS LED stays lit for 5 minutes.
