Hilti MT-TL M12/M16 Rail System Installation and Specifications
Product Overview
This document outlines the installation procedure and technical specifications for Hilti MT-TL M12 and MT-TL M16 rail systems, including their metric (M) and imperial (OC) variants.
Installation Steps
Follow these steps for proper installation:
- Diagram 1: Illustrates a Hilti MT-TL fastening component being positioned within a slotted metal rail.
- Diagram 2: Shows the fastening component being inserted into the rail and rotated to engage with the slot. A red arrow indicates the direction of insertion.
- Diagram 3: Depicts the fastening component fully seated and locked into the rail, ready for load application.
Clearance and Alignment Requirements
Ensure the following clearance and alignment specifications are met for secure and reliable installation:
Installation Type A
Diagram A: Shows a bolt connection through the rail and attached component. Red dots indicate critical contact points.
❗ Minimum clearance between the bolt head/nut and the rail edge: ≥ 2.5 mm (1/4").❗ Minimum clearance between the bolt thread and the rail slot edge: > 1 mm (1/16").❗ Visual inspection is required for proper engagement.
Installation Type B
Diagram B: Illustrates a different bolt connection scenario with similar clearance requirements.
❗ Minimum clearance between the bolt head/nut and the rail edge: ≥ 3 mm (1/8").❗ Minimum clearance between the bolt thread and the rail slot edge: > 1 mm (1/16").❗ Visual inspection is required for proper engagement.
Diagram showing a correctly installed component with a checkmark and a minimum distance of ≥ 30 mm (1 3/16").
Ensure a minimum distance of ≥ 30 mm (1 3/16") from the end of the rail to the installed component. ❌ Incorrect installation is indicated by a red cross mark.
Torque Specifications
The following table provides recommended torque values for various Hilti MT-TL rail system components:
Product Model | Tightening Torque (A) | Tightening Torque (B) |
---|---|---|
MT-TL M12 / MT-TL 1/2" | 60 Nm (44 ft-lb) | 30 Nm (22 ft-lb) |
MT-TL M12 OC / MT-TL 1/2" OC | 60 Nm (44 ft-lb) | 30 Nm (22 ft-lb) |
MT-TL M16 / MT-TL 5/8" | 60 Nm (44 ft-lb) | 40 Nm (30 ft-lb) |
MT-TL M16 OC / MT-TL 5/8" OC | 60 Nm (44 ft-lb) | 40 Nm (30 ft-lb) |
Note: 'A' and 'B' likely refer to different fastening configurations or components. 'SW 8.8' indicates the bolt strength class is 8.8.
