VSP1500L / VSP1500R
Vehicle Specific Punch Full Size GM Truck 1500 Extended Cab '88+*
Specification Reference Sheet & Installation Guide
VSP Enclosure
The VSP1500L (left) and VSP1500R (right) are custom-molded enclosures designed to fit specifically under the rear bench seat of Full Size GM Truck 1500 Extended Cab models ('88+*). The VSP1500R fits without alteration, while the VSP1500L replaces the factory toolbox.
Acoustic Suspension Enclosure: Utilizes a sealed acoustic suspension design for optimal performance. This design is matched to the woofer to deliver deep bass output while requiring minimal operating space.
Roto-Molded Urethane Construction: Manufactured using Roto-Mold techniques, resulting in a composite enclosure with seamless construction. This enhances rigidity, prevents flexing, and allows for custom designs, leading to a stronger and more reliable enclosure.
Note: Use the VSP1500R for systems requiring only one subwoofer. Use both the VSP1500R and VSP1500L for systems requiring two subwoofers.
Punch Woofer Features
PVA Cone: Constructed from spruce pulp paper, offering a balance of weight and strength for high output without cone breakup. The cone is treated with a water-resistant PolyVinyl Acetate (PVA) emulsion to increase rigidity and reduce distortion.
Aluminum Voice Coil Former: Features a voice coil wound on a black, anodized aluminum former, improving power handling by efficiently dissipating heat.
Hyper-Extended Pole Piece: An extended pole piece creates a more linear magnetic field, reducing distortion and enhancing low-frequency response.
Vented Bumped Back Plate: The back plate is stepped deeper to allow for increased woofer excursion, resulting in harder-hitting bass. It includes a radiused aerodynamic vent to keep the voice coil cool.

Installation Instructions
The Vehicle Specific Punch (VSP) enclosure is supplied in kit form to allow custom finishing techniques. The unfinished surface enables matching paint or carpet to be applied for seamless integration into the vehicle's interior. The input terminal cup can be positioned for convenient routing of speaker wires from the amplifier.
IMPORTANT – Please follow these instructions carefully!!
The VSP enclosure is specially molded to fit particular vehicles. Failure to install the enclosure as specified may allow it to become detached, potentially causing personal injury.
VSP Enclosure Preparation
- Select the desired location for the speaker terminal cup. Using a hole saw, cut a 2" diameter hole.
- Use the speaker terminal cup as a template to mark the mounting holes. Remove the cup and drill pilot holes using a 3/32" drill bit.
- Carpet or paint the enclosure(s) to match your desired color theme.
- Connect the supplied speaker wire to the appropriate (+) and (-) terminals of the speaker cup. Connect the RED wire to the (+) terminal and the BLACK wire to the (-) terminal.
- Secure the speaker terminal cup to the enclosure using the (4) supplied Phillips screws.
Vehicle Preparation
- The VSP enclosure(s) will be located under the rear bench seat. Remove any obstructions for proper installation.
- Fold up the rear bench seat.
- If installing the VSP1500L in addition to the VSP1500R, permanently remove the factory toolbox located under the seat. Cover the extra hole using a rubber plug or silicone sealant.
VSP 1500R Enclosure Installation
- Thread the supplied bolt fully into the VSP enclosure and test fit the enclosure in the vehicle.
- Remove the backing from the wax square and place it under the bolt location. Press firmly on the enclosure to make an impression of the bolt head into the wax square. Carefully remove the enclosure without moving the wax square.
- Check under the vehicle for brake or hydraulic lines before proceeding. Using a 1/2" diameter drill bit, drill a hole through the floor board using the wax square as your template.
VSP 1500L Enclosure Installation
- If installing the VSP1500L in addition to the VSP1500R, test fit the enclosure in the vehicle. The VSP1500L uses the factory drilled toolbox hole for securing.
- Run the speaker wire from the amplifier to the desired location(s) and connect the proper (+) and (–) speaker terminals to the enclosure(s).
- This procedure requires 2 people. While one person positions the VSP enclosure(s), the second person inserts the long bolt(s) from the underside of the vehicle. Place a bead of silicone sealant between the car sheet metal and the washer. Screw the bolt into the threaded insert and tighten. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
- After tightening the bolt(s), spray rubberized undercoating over the bolt(s) and any bare metal to prevent rusting and loosening due to vibrations.
- If necessary, fine-tune the system to find the proper bass level for your new VSP woofer enclosure.
*For models without 3rd door option
Diagram Description (Bolt Installation): The diagram illustrates the mounting hardware for securing the enclosure. It shows the enclosure wall (urethane), a threaded insert molded into the enclosure, a 3/8" bolt, a fender washer, a split lock washer, the car's sheet metal, and a bead of silicone sealant applied between the sheet metal and the washer.
