Assembly
Ensure all parts are present before assembly. Refer to the component list and diagrams for correct assembly procedures.
Chain Tensioning and Adjustment Check:
- Correct chain tension is crucial for operation and safety. Check before starting and during use.
- Turning the screw counter-clockwise decreases tension. Ensure the chain fits snugly around the guide bar.
- New chains stretch and require adjustment after as few as 5 cuts.
- Incorrect tension (too loose or too tight) can lead to rapid wear of the sprocket, bar, chain, crankshaft, and bearings.
- Always wear protective gloves during maintenance. Do not perform maintenance when the motor unit is hot.
Guide Bar Maintenance:
- Proper guide bar lubrication and avoiding a chain that is too tight contribute to preventing rapid bar wear.
Chain Sharpening:
- For inexperienced users, professional sharpening is recommended.
- If sharpening yourself, use suitable tools: a 4mm round hand file, a chain measuring gauge, or an electric chain sharpener.
- All cutting teeth must be of similar length. Different lengths can cause rough running and damage.
- Minimum tooth length is 4mm. If shorter, remove the chain.
- Follow correct sharpening angles. Make 2-3 file pulls from the inside out.
- After 3-4 sharpenings, have the chain professionally sharpened for longevity.
Sprocket Tips Lubrication:
- Lubricate the guide bar sprocket tip after 25 hours of use or once a week.
- Clean the sprocket tip thoroughly before lubrication.
- Failure to lubricate will result in poor performance and seizure, voiding the warranty.
Chain Lubrication:
- Ensure the automatic oiler system is working properly.
- Keep the oil tank filled with Bar and Chain or Sprocket Oil.
- Fill the oil tank to approximately the halfway mark, maintaining this level.
- Adequate lubrication is essential to minimize friction.
- Never starve the bar and chain of lubricating oil. Running dry will decrease cutting efficiency, shorten chain life, and cause excessive wear due to overheating.
- Signs of insufficient oil include smoke or bar discolouration.
