REMOVING MINERAL DEPOSITS
To maintain efficiency, periodically clean mineral deposits. Recommended procedure:
- Fill the tank with water and descaler to the max level (water:descaler ratio 4:1, or use citric acid: 100 parts water to 3 parts citric acid).
- Insert the glass carafe onto the warming plate.
- Ensure the filter and funnel are in place; do not add coffee powder.
- Switch on the appliance and allow it to "brew" the de-scaling solution.
- After brewing one cup of solution, switch off the appliance.
- Let the solution sit for 15 minutes, then repeat steps 4-6.
- Switch on the appliance and run off the remaining solution until the water tank is empty.
- Rinse by operating the appliance with clean water at least 3 times.
HINTS FOR GREAT-TASTING COFFEE
- Regularly clean the coffee maker as specified in the "CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE" section. Always use fresh, cold water.
- Store unused coffee powder in a cool, dry place. Reseal opened packages tightly and store in the refrigerator for freshness.
- For optimal taste, use whole coffee beans and grind them just before brewing.
- Do not reuse coffee powder; it reduces flavor. Reheating coffee is not recommended as peak flavor is immediately after brewing.
- Clean the coffee maker if over-extraction causes oiliness. Small oil droplets in brewed coffee are from coffee powder extraction.
- Oiliness may occur more frequently with heavily roasted coffee.
