Features
This unit is a Bluetooth-supporting wireless speaker for portable use. It can also function as a surround speaker for a Yamaha sound bar.
Using this unit as a Bluetooth speaker
Connect to a smartphone or other mobile device. Features high-quality audio playback and the Clear Voice function for clearer dialogue.

PART NAMES AND FUNCTIONS
Top controls/Front
This section describes the names and functions of the controls.

- Power button and lamp: Turns the unit on/off. The power lamp indicates remaining battery level or power status.
- (mode) button and lamps: Cycles through modes. SURROUND lamp indicates surround mode; SOLO lamp indicates Bluetooth speaker mode.
- (Clear Voice) button and lamp: Enables/disables the Clear Voice function (available in SOLO mode). The lamp glows when enabled.
- (play/pause) button: Plays or pauses audio. Press twice quickly to skip to the next song, or three times to skip to the beginning of the current/previous song.
- Volume (+/-) buttons: Adjust the volume.
Rear/Bottom
This section describes the part names and functions of the rear and bottom of the unit.

- L/R lamps: Indicate setting status when connected to a sound bar. L lamp for surround left, R lamp for surround right. Both lamps for both channels.
- USB port (Type-C): Connect the included USB cable for charging.
- Charging terminal (bottom): For use with a charging cradle (Yamaha CC-T1A; sold separately).

PREPARATION
Charging the unit
Use a commercially available USB power adapter (DC 5 V, 2 A or more) or a charging cradle (Yamaha CC-T1A; sold separately).
⚠️ CAUTION: Do not charge the unit when wet. Charging with liquid or foreign matter on terminals may cause fire, explosion, battery fluid leakage, electric shock, or malfunction.

- Connect the Type-C connector of the USB cable to the USB port on this unit.
- Connect the Type-A connector of the USB cable to the USB power adapter.
- Plug the USB power adapter into an AC wall outlet.
The power lamp glows orange during charging and turns off when charging is complete.
NOTE:
- Charging time (approx. four hours for WS-X3A) varies by usage environment and conditions.
- If the unit is playing at high volume during charging, battery may decrease. Turn down volume or turn off the unit.
- Compatibility with all commercially available USB power adapters is not guaranteed.
Turning the unit on and off (standby)
To turn the unit on/off, follow the instructions below.

To turn on: Press and hold the power button. The power lamp flashes to indicate remaining battery level (white for more than half, orange for less than half). The unit then turns on.
To turn off: Press and hold the power button again.

Checking the remaining battery level
While the unit is on, press and hold the play/pause (▶️) button for at least five seconds. The power lamp and a melody indicate the remaining battery level:

NOTE:
- Auto Standby: The unit automatically switches to standby in the following situations:
- When SOLO mode is selected: No playback or control operations for 20 minutes or more, or no control operations for 8 hours.
- When SURROUND mode is selected: Not connected to the sound bar for 20 minutes or more, or the sound bar is turned off while connected.
- Sound Guide: A melody informs you of the unit's status (e.g., power on, Bluetooth connection). Enabled by default. To disable, hold the Clear Voice button for at least three seconds.

USING THIS UNIT AS A BLUETOOTH® SPEAKER
Listening to audio from a Bluetooth device
Connect the unit when the SOLO lamp is flashing blue. If the unit was connected to a sound bar, change the mode to SOLO using the mode (?) button.
NOTE:
- If previously connected to other Bluetooth devices, the unit connects to the last connected device automatically. To connect a new device, disconnect the current one first.
- To terminate the Bluetooth connection from this unit, press the volume (-) button and play/pause (▶️) button simultaneously for at least five seconds.
- On the Bluetooth device, enable the Bluetooth function.
- On the Bluetooth device, select this unit (Yamaha WS-***) from the list of available devices. The model name displays as X3A. If a passkey is required, enter "0000".

Playing surround sound of the sound bar

TROUBLESHOOTING
When a problem occurs
Check the following first when any problem occurs:
Try following the instructions described in "When a problem occurs" first when the unit does not function properly. If an error occurs, the lamp flashes to notify you.
- "List of lamp displays" (p.24)
- If the unit does not function properly after following the instructions to solve the problem, restart or initialize it. "Restarting or initializing (factory reset) the unit" (p.23)
- If the unit still does not function properly, turn it off and contact the nearest authorized Yamaha dealer or service center.
When this unit is connected to the sound bar

The unit cannot be charged/It takes a long time to charge
- Incompatible USB power adapter: Use a USB power adapter that can output DC 5 V (2 A or more). See "Charging the unit" (p.9).
- Unstable USB power adapter output: Not all adapters are guaranteed to be compatible. Try a different adapter.
- Improper connection: Check that all connections are made properly. See "Charging the unit" (p.9).
- Ambient temperature: Charge within the usage temperature range (5°C to 35°C). See "Charging the unit" (p.9).
- Charging is taking a long time: Charging may have stopped. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. See "Charging the unit" (p.9).
- Protection circuitry activated: Check the lamp display. See "List of lamp displays" (p.24).
- Connected to a computer USB port: Computer ports may not guarantee charging. Use a USB power adapter (DC 5 V, 2 A or more).
The unit cannot be turned on
- Power button not pressed and held: Press and hold the power button for at least three seconds. See "Turning the unit on and off (standby)" (p.10).
- Low battery level: Charge the unit. See "Charging the unit" (p.9).
- Ambient temperature: Use the unit within the operating temperature range. See "SPECIFICATIONS" (p.26).
The unit turns off suddenly
- Low battery level: Charge the unit. If playing at high volume, battery may decrease. Turn off the unit and charge fully before use. See "Charging the unit" (p.9).
- Auto Standby function: Turn the unit on again. See "Turning the unit on and off (standby)" (p.10).
- Ambient temperature: Use the unit within the operating temperature range. See "SPECIFICATIONS" (p.26).
- Sound bar turned off: Turning the sound bar on/off also turns this unit on/off when connected. See URL for sound bar connection.
- Unstable USB power adapter output: Turn down volume or try a different USB power adapter.
- Rechargeable battery deteriorated: If the unit turns off immediately after full charging, the battery may be deteriorated. Contact authorized Yamaha dealer or service center.
The unit cannot be connected to a Bluetooth device
- Unit not displayed: Try disabling and re-enabling Bluetooth on the device.
- Cannot connect even if displayed: Delete the unit from the device's list and reconnect.
- Bluetooth device not on: Ensure the Bluetooth device is on and its function is enabled.
- Unit connected to another Bluetooth device: Terminate the current connection and connect to the new device. See "Listening to audio from a Bluetooth device" (p.12).
- Too far apart: Move the unit and device closer together.
- Audio output destination not set: Select this unit as the audio output destination on the Bluetooth device.
- Electromagnetic interference: Avoid using near microwave ovens or wireless routers.
- Unit initialized: Delete the unit from the Bluetooth device's list and reconnect. See "Listening to audio from a Bluetooth device" (p.12).
- Incorrect passkey: The passkey must be "0000".
- Unsupported profile: Use a Bluetooth device that supports the A2DP profile.
No sound
- Unit and Bluetooth device not connected: Connect to the Bluetooth device. See "Listening to audio from a Bluetooth device" (p.12).
- Volume too low: Turn up the volume. See "Top controls/Front" (p.6).
Broken, distorted, or unusual sound is heard from the unit
- Volume too high: Turn down the volume. See "Top controls/Front" (p.6).
- Electromagnetic interference: Avoid using near microwave ovens or wireless routers.
- Too far apart: Move the Bluetooth device and/or the unit closer together.
Noise is emitted from electronic devices installed near the unit
- Unstable Bluetooth connection: Install this unit away from electronic devices.
Restarting or initializing (factory reset) the unit
If the unit does not function properly, restart or initialize it.
Restarting the unit
Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds to restart. Connection information is not deleted.
If the unit does not turn on automatically after restarting, press and hold the power button for at least three seconds to turn it on.
Initializing the unit
If the unit still does not function properly after restarting, initialize it. This restores factory settings and deletes all connection information.
- Press the power button while holding down the Clear Voice button in standby state. The Clear Voice lamp flashes.
- Press the play/pause button while the Clear Voice lamp is flashing. The unit will be initialized.
After initializing, press and hold the power button for at least three seconds to turn on the unit.

The status of this unit is shown by the color (white, blue, or orange) and by glowing/flashing of the lamps.
