2. Installation
Insert / Remove the Memory Card
Insert the memory card: Ensure the metal contacts face away from the VIOFO logo. With the camera off, push the card into the slot until it clicks.
Remove the memory card: With the camera off, push the edge of the memory card with your fingernail to release it.
Note: Use a UHS-U1/U3 microSD card (up to 256GB). Format the card on a computer to exFAT or FAT32. Formatting erases all data. For best performance, format periodically.
Install the Dashcam
- Install the mount by inserting the clips and sliding it horizontally into the slot on the back of the camera.
- Select a location on the windshield behind the rear-view mirror, ensuring it doesn't obstruct the driver's view.
- Wipe the installation surface clean and grease-free.
- Peel the protection film off the sticky pad and camera lens.
- Fix the camera in the selected location.
- Adjust the bracket angle (approx. 60°) for optimal recording needs.
- Connect the USB Type-C cable to the camera mount and plug the adapter into your vehicle's 12V / 24V power socket.
Remove the Dashcam
Slide the camera to the right and pull it out of the mounting bracket.
Tips for Installation:
- Do not install where it obstructs visibility or safety.
- Mount close to the rearview mirror for equal coverage.
- Position the lens within the wiper's range for clear rainy day views.
- Avoid installing near airbag panels.
- Ensure installation is not affected by window tint or other electronic equipment.
Note: The manufacturer is not liable for injury or death caused by airbag deployment if the camera or cables are installed within the airbag's working range.
3. Dash Cam Recording Operation
Power On/Off
- The camera automatically turns on and records when the engine starts.
- It stops recording and turns off when the engine is turned off or the charging cable is unplugged.
- Long press the [REC] button to manually power on or off.
Loop Recording
- Automatic loop recording starts when the camera detects power with a microSD card inserted.
- Video files can be set to 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 minutes.
- Oldest files are overwritten when storage is full.
- Loop recording files are saved in:
DCIM\MOVIE
folder.
Emergency Recording
- Automatic: When the G-sensor detects a collision, footage is locked to prevent overwriting.
- Manual: Press the [!] button during recording to lock the current footage.
Disable / Enable Audio Recording
Press the [MIC] button once. The [MIC] LED will be off (disabled) or solid Red (enabled).
Parking Mode
Three options are available:
- Auto Event Detection: Records a video sequence when motion is detected during parking mode. Stops when no new movement is detected.
- Time Lapse Recording: Records at low frame rates (1/2/3/5/10 fps) continuously without audio.
- Low Bitrate Recording: Uses low bitrate for continuous video and audio recording with small file sizes.
Note: Parking mode requires the VIOFO HK4 ACC hardwire kit for continuous power and car battery protection.
4. Playback and Manage Videos
Playback Video on VIOFO APP
Long press the [Wi-Fi] button to enable Wi-Fi. Connect your phone to the dashcam's Wi-Fi (SSID: VIOFO_WM1_XXXX, Password: 12345678). Open the VIOFO app and select "Connect your camera" to play and manage files.
Playback Video on PC
- Remove the memory card from the dashcam (ensure it's powered off).
- Insert the memory card into a card reader connected to your PC.
- Open the
DCIM
folder and use a video player like VLC to play the videos.

5. Review and Control on Smartphone
Connect to Smartphone
The VIOFO app allows remote control, live preview, playback, and video recording. Download the app from Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS), or download the APK from the VIOFO website.
APP Layout Overview
After connecting to the dashcam's Wi-Fi, open the VIOFO app and choose "Connect your camera". The app interface includes:

Connect VIOFO APP
Long press the [Wi-Fi] button to turn on Wi-Fi. Connect to the dashcam's Wi-Fi. Once connected, the camera's Wi-Fi LED will be solid blue. Open the VIOFO app and select "Connect your camera" to view live footage, change settings, and manage files.
6. Install Optional Accessories
Install CPL
The CPL (Circular Polarizing Lens) reduces reflections and glare for improved image quality, similar to polarized sunglasses. Align the white mark on the CPL with the corresponding mark on the camera during installation.
Install Bluetooth Remote Control
Attach the remote control to your dashboard using the adhesive mount. Power on the camera, press [Wi-Fi + !] buttons to enter pairing mode, then press the video lock button on the remote for 3 seconds to pair. The remote's LED will turn blue upon successful pairing.
7. System Settings
Camera settings can be accessed via the VIOFO App. Stop recording and enter the settings menu.
Video Setting
- Video Resolution: 2560*1440P 30fps; 1920*1080P 30fps.
- Time-lapse Recording: Off / 1/2/3/5/10 fps. Conserves memory and reduces review time.
- Loop Recording: Off / 1/2/3/5/10 minutes. Automatically overwrites oldest files.
- Recording Audio: Turn the microphone on/off by pressing the [MIC] button.
- Exposure Value: Adjusts footage brightness in different lighting conditions (-2.0 to +2.0). Default is 0.0.
- WDR (Wide Dynamic Range): On/Off. Improves exposure in varying lighting conditions.
- G-Sensor: Measures shock forces and locks video. Set sensitivity from "low" to "high". Recommended setting is "low".
- Date Stamp: On/Off. Imprints time and date on recordings.
- Bitrate: Low / Normal / High / Maximum. High bitrate improves quality but reduces recording time. Low bitrate saves space.
System Setting
- Time Zone: Set for GPS time and date calibration. Adjust manually for daylight savings.
- Time Synchronization: Synchronizes time with your mobile phone.
- Date Format: Choose the date format.
- Boot delay: Set a delay for camera startup (Off / 5s / 10s).
- Parking Mode: Options include Auto Event Detection, Time Lapse Recording, and Low Bitrate Recording.
- Parking Recording Timer: Set when the camera enters parking mode (Off or 1 hour).
- Enter Parking Mode Timer: Timer for entering parking mode (Off or 90s after engine off).
- Parking G-Sensor: Detects movement for event recording. Suggest "High" sensitivity.
- Parking Motion Detection: Adjusts sensitivity to prevent false triggers from wind or rain.
- Image Rotate: Flip the image upside down.
- Image Mirror: Reverse the image horizontally.
- Notification Sounds: Control button and startup sounds (Off / Button beep only / Startup sound only / All on).
- Voice Notification: Turn voice notifications on/off.
- GPS: Turn GPS logger on/off to include location and speed data. Use "Dashcam Viewer" for playback.
- Speed Unit: Select KMH or MPH.
- GPS Info Stamp: Imprint GPS information on recordings.
- Camera Model Stamp: Imprint the camera model on recordings.
- Frequency: Minimize flickering and banding in video.
- Format SD Card: Deletes all data on the microSD card. Back up important files before formatting.
- Reset Camera Settings: Resets all settings to default values.
- Wi-Fi Name (SSID): Change Wi-Fi name.
- Wi-Fi Password: Change Wi-Fi password (default: 12345678).
- Custom Text Stamp: Imprint custom text on recordings.
- Car License Number: Imprint car number on recordings.
- Free Space on Card: Shows remaining microSD card storage.
Other
- App Version: Check the current firmware version of the app.
- Firmware: Check the current firmware version of the camera.
8. Firmware Upgrade
Follow the instructions on https://viofo.com/en/content/42-help-and-support/ to upgrade the firmware.
Note: Format the microSD card before upgrading. Do not unplug or power off the camera during the upgrade process.
