Electrical Specifications
WARNING: Risk of electric shock.
Connect to a grounded outlet. Do not remove the grounding pin. Do not use an adapter. Do not use an extension cord. Failure to follow these instructions could result in death, fire, or electric shock.
- Voltage: 220–240 V AC
- Frequency: 50–60 Hz
- Wattage:
- 315 W for model 5KPM5
- 500 W for models 5KSM7580X, 5KSM7591X
NOTE: The mixer's rated wattage is indicated on the trim band or data plate. Do not use an extension cord. If the power cord is too short, contact a qualified electrician or service technician to have an outlet installed near the appliance. Rated wattage is determined when using the attachment that provides the most load (draws the most power). Other recommended attachments may consume significantly less energy.
Speed Control Instructions
For any speed setting, a special function automatically starts the mixer at the lowest speed to prevent splashing of ingredients and flour clouds during startup, then quickly increases the speed to the selected level for optimal mixing.
NOTE: This feature is available only for models 5KSM7580X and 5KSM7591X.
SPEED | PURPOSE | ACCESSORIES |
---|---|---|
1 | Stirring | Flat Beater |
2 | Slow Scrape, Kneading | Flat Beater and Dough Hook |
4 | Mixing, Whipping | Flat Beater and Wire Whip |
6 | Whipping, Creaming | Wire Whip |
8–10 | Fast Whipping, Aerating, Fast Mixing | Wire Whip |
NOTE: For mixing or kneading yeast dough, use speed 2. Using any other speed increases the likelihood of mixer failure. The dough hook effectively kneads most types of yeast dough in 4 minutes.
Product Assembly
- Turn the stand mixer OFF, then unplug it from the power outlet.
- Lower the bowl lift lever to the down position.
- Bowl Installation: Lower the bowl lift lever. Align the bowl supports with the mounting posts. Press down on the bowl until it locks into place with the spring latch.
- Attachment Installation: Place the attachment onto the beater shaft and push it up as far as it will go. Turn it clockwise to engage the drive pin on the shaft.
- Bowl Raising: Move the lever to the vertical position. The bowl must always be in the raised, locked position during operation.
Using the Product
Clearance Between Beater and Bowl
The stand mixer is factory-set so that the clearance between the flat beater and the bottom of the bowl is minimal. If, for any reason, the flat beater touches the bottom of the bowl or is too far away, the clearance can be easily adjusted.
- Turn the stand mixer OFF, then unplug it from the power outlet.
- Lower the bowl lift lever to the down position.
- Locate the adjustment screw that is revealed when the bowl is lowered. NOTE: Do not adjust the screw on the spring latch.
- Adjust so that the flat beater has a slight clearance to the bottom of the bowl when in the raised position. To do this, turn the screw counterclockwise (to raise the bowl) or clockwise (to lower the bowl). A slight turn is sufficient: the screw does not turn more than 1/4 turn (90 degrees) in either direction. (The full adjustment range is 1/2 turn, or 180 degrees.)
NOTE: When properly adjusted, the flat beater does not touch the bottom or sides of the bowl. If the flat beater or wire whip is installed in a way that contacts the bottom of the bowl, it may cause wear to the beater or whip.
Speed Control Operation
Plug the stand mixer into a grounded outlet. Start at a low speed to avoid splashing, then gradually increase speed. Refer to Speed Control Instructions.
WARNING: Risk of injury. Unplug the mixer before removing beaters. Failure to do so may result in fractures, cuts, or bruises.
Do not scrape the bowl while the mixer is running. It is usually sufficient to scrape the bowl once or twice during mixing.
CAUTION: The stand mixer may get hot during use. Under heavy load with extended mixing times, the upper part of the unit may become warm. This is normal.
Product Disassembly
- Turn the stand mixer OFF, then unplug it from the power outlet.
- Removing the Bowl Guard*: Lift the front of the bowl guard* off the bowl rim. Remove it from the mixer.
- Removing the Attachment: Push the accessory upward and turn it counterclockwise. Pull the accessory off the beater shaft.
- Removing the Bowl: Lower the bowl lift lever. Grasp the bowl by its handle, lift the bowl straight up, and remove it from the mounting posts.
*Included with some models only. Also available as an optional accessory.
Care and Cleaning
CAUTION: Do not immerse the mixer body in water or other liquids.
- Turn the stand mixer OFF, then unplug it from the power outlet.
- Wipe the mixer body with a soft, damp cloth.
- The dough hook, flat beater, bowl guard*, and 11-wire whip are dishwasher safe on the top rack. The stainless steel bowl is fully dishwasher safe. They can also be washed thoroughly in hot, soapy water and rinsed completely before drying. Do not leave beaters on the shaft. NOTE: The C-shaped dough hook is only available for model 5KPM5.
- IMPORTANT: The 6-wire whip and plastic bowl lid are not dishwasher safe. They can be washed thoroughly in hot, soapy water and rinsed completely before drying. Do not leave the wire whip on the shaft. NOTE: Only model 5KPM5 comes with a plastic bowl lid.
