Operation
Before First Use
NOTE: Place your WAYNE on a flat, non-flammable surface. Before grilling for the first time, wipe the surface of the lid and outer combustion chamber with a damp cloth to prevent any production residues from burning in.
ATTENTION: Before using the appliance, check that the burners are correctly positioned on the respective nozzle. If this is not the case, turn the burner locks by 90° ?, remove the burner and reposition it on the nozzles. Then lock the torches again.
Operating the Grill
NOTE: Let the grill burn in for 45 minutes without food before using it for the first time. This will remove any preservative residues. If there is a slight odour, you do not need to worry. This is harmless. Make sure that the grill is sufficiently ventilated. Then scrub the grates with a stainless steel grill brush.
- Open the lid of the grill.
- Turn all control knobs clockwise to the "OFF" position.
- Connect the pressure reducer to the gas cylinder.
- Open the valve on the gas cylinder and carry out a leak test between the pressure reducer and the gas cylinder using leak detection spray or soapy water.
- The barbecue has an automatic ignition system. You can use the burners independently of each other.
- To ignite a burner: Press and hold the rotary knob of a burner, then turn it anti-clockwise to the "HI" position. You will hear a "click" sound, and the burner ignites. If the burner does not ignite straight away, repeat this step 3 to 4 times.
- CAUTION: If the burner does not ignite even after several attempts, turn the control knob clockwise to the "OFF" position and close the valve on the gas cylinder. Wait 5 minutes and start again at step 4.
- Once you have lit one burner, repeat step 5 with the other control knob to light the second burner.
- Regulate the heat by turning the control knob to any setting between the highest level "HI" and the lowest level "LO".
If your food requires different heat levels, turn down one of the burners so that you can set up different grilling zones.
Baking and Maintaining Cast Iron Grates
The cast iron grates are enamelled to protect against rust and prevent food from sticking. Baking the grates helps maintain this protective layer.
Baking cast iron can be carried out in 3 simple steps:
- Clean the cast iron grates with mild soapy water, rinse well, and wipe dry.
- Grease the grill grates completely using an unrefined oil or grease with a high smoke point.
- CAUTION: Never use olive oil or whey products – these become bitter when burning, have an unpleasant odour, and produce a lot of smoke.
- Place the grates in the grill and set the burners to "HI". Bake for 45 minutes with the lid closed. This permanently burns the fat into the iron and creates a protective patina.
NOTE: If the patina is damaged, you will need to bake the cast iron grates again and build up a new patina. Follow steps 1-3 again.
Brush the cast iron grates after baking. As a rule, no further care is required, but it is advisable to re-grease them.
If the patina is damaged and the cast iron grates start to rust, clean them thoroughly, remove the rust, and bake them as described. For flash rust, scrub the rusty areas with steel wool until all rust is removed. Wash, dry, and repeat the baking process.
In winter, store the cast iron grates in a dry place if possible.
Cleaning
After Each Use
To prepare your barbecue for the next use, let it burn out after each use (without food). This allows residue and grease on the grates to burn off and can then simply be brushed off.
- Close the lid and set all burners to "HI".
- Leave your barbecue to burn out for 15-30 minutes until there is no more smoke coming from the barbecue.
- Close the valve on the gas cylinder and switch off all burners.
- Open the grill slowly (be careful of escaping heat ?) and scrub the grates clean with a stainless steel grill brush.
NOTE: Brass brushes are very soft and therefore unsuitable for cast iron and stainless steel grates. They can also rub off and thus promote flash rust.
When the grill has cooled down completely, empty and clean the grease drip tray.
Basic Cleaning
- Allow the grill to cool down completely before cleaning.
- Pull out the grease drip tray and dispose of the grease in an environmentally friendly manner.
- Remove the burner & dismantle the grill lid.
- Clean the die-cast aluminium parts (combustion chamber & grill lid) by removing coarse dirt with a scraper.
- Apply a suitable cleaning agent for barbecue chambers (barbecue cleaner or washing-up liquid) to the inside of your barbecue and leave it to work for the time specified by the manufacturer. ATTENTION: Do not exceed the recommended contact time of the cleaner used. Otherwise, the material may become discoloured or damaged.
- Wipe your barbecue thoroughly with water to remove all residues of the cleaning agent. Then leave your barbecue to dry completely.
- Remove food residue from the burners with a brush.
- If, in exceptional cases, a nozzle is blocked, clear it with a nozzle needle.
- If, in exceptional cases, the venturi (gas mixing pipe) is blocked, clear it with a needle or pipe cleaner.
- Reassemble the burner & the grill lid according to these instructions.
- Clean the outside and plastic parts of your barbecue with a soft cotton cloth, warm water, and mild detergent.
ATTENTION: Do not use a microfibre cloth to clean the outer surfaces – it would scratch the material.
