3. Assemble the Hi-Hat (VH-14D)
Assemble the hi-hat according to the "VH-14D Owner's Manual".
Assembly Steps:
- Place the bottom cymbal on the hi-hat stand with the cymbal rod passing through the hole.
- Pass the clamp ends through the bottom cymbal's metal portion grooves, pull down firmly, and secure with the drum key.
- Connect link cables A/B from the top cymbal to link jacks A/B of the bottom cymbal. Ensure cables are not pulled too hard.

Diagram Description: Illustrates attaching the kick pedal to the KD-10, showing the beater's position hitting the center of the head, and ensuring both the KD-10 and pedal are stable and touching the floor.
Reference: For more details, refer to the "KD-10 Owner's Manual".
5. Attaching Various Parts to the Drum Stand
Use the included drum key to attach the various parts. Settings are for right-handed players; refer to the manual for left-handed setup.
Attaching Cymbals (CY-12C-T/CY-14C-T, CY-18DR):
- Align the cymbal mount's convex portion with the cymbal's concave bottom.
- Tighten the cymbal nut for appropriate sway. Use the included felt washer and cymbal nut. The "Roland" logo should face outward.
Diagram Description: Shows how to attach a cymbal to the stand, aligning the mount, tightening the cymbal nut, and positioning the "Roland" logo.
Attaching the Drum Sound Module (TD-27):
- Attach the sound module mounting plate to the TD-27 using the included wing bolts.
- Loosen the drum stand mount holder's hand knob, insert the mounting plate, and tighten.
- Adjust the mounting plate's angle using the drum key.
Diagram Description: Illustrates attaching the TD-27 sound module to the drum stand using the mounting plate and wing bolts, and adjusting its angle.
Setting up the Hi-Hat (VH-14D):
Insert the VH-14D's connection cable plug into the DIGITAL TRIGGER OUT jack and use the protector to lock it.
Diagram Description: Shows the connection for the VH-14D, including the DIGITAL TRIGGER OUT connector, connection cable, and protector.
Hi-Hat Alignment: Ensure the "●" marks on the top and bottom cymbals are aligned for correct operation.
Cymbal Position Adjustment: Adjust the rod height so the highest cymbal point is under 1.2 meters (47 inches). Ensure the cymbal's center does not extend beyond the stand pipes at the back.
Diagram Description: Illustrates the correct alignment of the VH-14D cymbals and the height adjustment for the rod, keeping it below 1.2 meters.
Mounting the Snare (PD-140DS):
The PD-140DS requires a commercially available snare stand. Ensure the stand can support a 14-inch shell. Connect the cable to the PD-140DS's DIGITAL TRIGGER OUT connector and use the protector.
Diagram Description: Shows the connection for the PD-140DS, including the DIGITAL TRIGGER OUT connector, connection cable, and protector.
Attaching the Toms (PDX-100):
Adjust the head tension using the tuning bolts for desired response. Evenly tension the head.
Diagram Description: Illustrates adjusting the tuning bolts on the PDX-100 tom pad for head tension.
Note: Head tension affects pad response, not sound pitch. Pitch adjustments are made in the TD-27 module. Refer to the "TD-27 Quick Start" for details.
Installing the Kick (KD-10):
Extend anchor bolts to secure the unit on a V-Drums mat, Noise Eater, or carpet. Be cautious as anchor bolt tips are sharp.
Diagram Description: Shows how to adjust the anchor bolts for stability on different surfaces.
6. Connect the Pads to the Drum Sound Module
Turn down volume and turn off all units before making connections.
Connection Procedure:
- Connect the dedicated connection cable to the TRIGGER INPUT connector on the TD-27's bottom panel. Fasten securely with the knobs.
- Connect the cable's OUTPUT jack to each pad's corresponding jack, as indicated by the labels on the cable. Ensure plugs are fully inserted.
- Use the trigger cable to connect Crash 2 to the CRASH 2 jack of the TD-27's TRIGGER IN.
- Use the connection cables to connect the snare (PD-140DS), ride (CY-18DR), and hi-hat (VH-14D) to the DIGITAL TRIGGER IN ports (1-3) on the TD-27.
Diagram Description: A diagram shows the connections between the various pads (Snare, Hi-hat, Kick, Crash 1, Crash 2, Tom 1, Tom 2, Tom 3, Ride) and the TD-27 sound module, illustrating the use of dedicated, trigger, and connection cables.
Cable Management: Secure cables with provided clips and ties to avoid obstructing playing. Wrap cable ties around pipes.
Assembly for a Left-Handed Player:
For a left-handed setup, assemble the drum stand and install pads as shown in Figure A. Connect cables as shown in Figure B.
Diagram Description (Figure A & B): Illustrates the left-handed player setup for the drum stand and pad placement, along with cable connections to the TD-27 module.
After connections, turn on the power and verify sound output as per the "TD-27 Quick Start".
Digital Pad Setup (PD-140DS, CY-18DR, VH-14D):
When first connecting these digital pads, a screen will appear to assign them. Assign PD-140DS as Snare, CY-18DR as Ride, and VH-14D as Hi-Hat.
Setup Steps:
- Select "OK" and press [ENTER].
- Select the pad (PD-140DS, CY-18DR, or VH-14D) using cursor buttons.

Adjustment Steps:
- Press [SYSTEM], select "TRIGGER", and press [ENTER].
- Select "HI-HAT" and press [ENTER] to open the TRIGGER HI-HAT screen.
- Press [F5] (OFFSET) to access the VH OFFSET ADJUSTMENT screen.
- Loosen the clutch screw of the top cymbal and let it rest on the bottom cymbal. Do not touch the hi-hats or pedal.
- Press [F5] (EXECUTE) to automatically set the "VH Offset" parameter (approx. 3 seconds).
- Press [KIT] to return to the DRUM KIT screen.
Diagram Description: Illustrates the offset adjustment process, showing the clutch screw and the "VH Offset Adjustment" screen.
Adjusting the Hi-Hat Clearance:
- Adjust the gap between the top and bottom cymbals to approximately 10 mm, then tighten the clutch screw.
- Adjust the hi-hat stand's spring tension for optimal feel. Refer to the hi-hat stand's owner's manual.
Diagram Description: Shows the 10 mm gap adjustment for the hi-hat and mentions adjusting the spring tension of the hi-hat stand.
Note: Ensure some slack in the cable and secure it with a cable tie. Continuous playing may cause pad discoloration, but it does not affect function.
7. Connect the AC Adaptor and Speakers
Turn down volume and turn off all units before making connections. Connect the AC adaptor, headphones, or speakers. Use the cord hook on the unit to secure the AC adaptor cord.
Diagram Description: Shows the connection of the AC adaptor to the unit and an AC outlet, and the use of the cord hook.
After all connections are made, turn on the power and verify sound output.
