System Overview
The V5 IDS solution comprises the V5 IDS server, required downstream I/O, the Vindicator Command and Control (VCC) operator interface, and local I/O modules, adaptable to any application size. Built upon the V5 Network Security Appliance™, the Vindicator IDS solution serves as the central control unit for enterprise-wide security needs. The V5 IDS server accepts input directly via on-board I/O, from sensors connected to Vindicator field transponders, from V5 ACS servers, and from third-party systems. It also directly manages advanced assessment solutions like CCTV and thermal-imaging systems, as well as ground and water-based radar systems. The V5 IDS server processes events and relays relevant information to one or more VCC consoles for operator interaction, response, and dispatch.
The embedded server of the V5 IDS is designed to be resilient against viruses and worms that commonly affect PC-based security solutions. It features built-in support for redundant operation and the capability to communicate with other Vindicator devices over an encrypted network, establishing it as a premier enterprise security solution. The V5 IDS server can monitor a vast range of alarm points and device inputs, from a few dozen to tens of thousands. It is trusted by numerous government agencies, military installations, banks, correctional facilities, ports, and utilities for protecting critical organizational assets.

A diagram shows the Honeywell Vindicator V5 IDS server appliance, a compact, rack-mountable unit with network ports and indicator lights, representing the core of the enterprise intrusion detection system.
Features
Data Processing
The embedded IDS server software monitors system equipment status and distributes status changes to operator interfaces and peripheral equipment. It also processes commands from operators and evaluates the significance of system events against predefined "normal" conditions. The IDS server connects to Vindicator field devices using various media types, including RS485, fiber, Ethernet, and serial connections.
Various Alarm Types
The V5 IDS server supports multiple alarm types, such as standard, delayed, combined, auto-secure, two-man access, and group access alarms. Each alarm type is designed for a specific purpose within the site security plan, ensuring the security scheme aligns with the facility's operational reality. The V5 IDS categorizes alarm points by importance as their status changes. An alarm's priority influences its display, the type of alarm employed when a point goes off-normal, and its position on the Action List screen.
Enterprise Capabilities
When integrated with the V5 ACS server, the system's enterprise potential is significantly enhanced. The watchman's tour function can be utilized to ensure proper, safe, and regular rounds by staff, verifying credentials at a sequence of readers within a specified timeframe. The global anti-passback feature enforces user access based on individual authorization. Event and system information from one or more V5 IDS servers can be routed to single or multiple VCC consoles, enabling regionalized solutions and integration with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) platforms, resource management platforms, or emergency response systems.
Powerful Administration and Maintenance Interface
A single V5 IDS server can function as a remote configuration interface for other V5 servers on the network and interface with downstream Vindicator transponders. The V5 IDS server streamlines installation and improves troubleshooting by providing a robust maintenance console for performing device and network diagnostics.
