Battery

Do not attempt to replace the battery yourself, as this could cause overheating and injury. The lithium-ion battery should only be serviced by Apple or an authorized provider. Battery service may result in a replacement device. Batteries must be recycled or disposed of separately from household waste. Do not incinerate the battery. For battery service and recycling information, see apple.com/batteries/service-and-recycling.

Distraction

Using Apple Watch can be distracting and lead to dangerous situations (e.g., reading texts while driving). Observe rules that prohibit or restrict mobile device use.

Navigation

Maps, directions, and location-based apps rely on data services that may change and may not be available in all areas. Some Maps features require Location Services. Compare on-device information with surroundings and posted signs. Do not use these services during activities requiring full attention. Always comply with signs, laws, and regulations, and use common sense.

Charging

Use the included Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable or an Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock (sold separately) and power adapter. Third-party 5W power adapters with an MFi logo may also be used. Ensure Apple Watch, the charging cable, dock, and adapter are in a well-ventilated area while charging. Using damaged accessories, uncertified third-party solutions, or charging in the presence of moisture can cause fire, electric shock, injury, or property damage.

Prolonged Heat Exposure

Apple Watch and its accessories comply with applicable surface temperature standards. However, sustained contact with warm surfaces may cause discomfort or injury. The device, cable, and dock will become warm during charging. Cellular use on certain models may also make the device feel warm. Avoid prolonged skin contact with warm surfaces. Do not sleep on or place the device under blankets or pillows while charging. Take special care if you have conditions affecting heat detection. Remove Apple Watch if it becomes uncomfortably warm.

Hearing Loss

Listening at high volumes can damage hearing. Background noise can make sounds seem quieter. Check volume levels before using Bluetooth headsets. For more information, visit the Sound and Hearing website. ⚠️ Warning: To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods.

Radio Frequency Exposure

Apple Watch uses radio signals for wireless connectivity. For RF energy information and minimization steps, see the Apple Watch app (My Watch > General > About > Legal > RF Exposure) or visit apple.com/legal/rfexposure.

Radio Frequency Interference

Observe signs restricting electronic device use. While designed to comply with RF emission regulations, Apple Watch and accessories may affect other electronic equipment. Unplug accessories and turn off Apple Watch or use airplane mode when prohibited (e.g., on aircraft) or when instructed by authorities.

Medical Device Interference

Apple Watch contains components and radios emitting electromagnetic fields. Magnets in the watch, bands, and charging accessories may interfere with medical devices like pacemakers. Consult your physician and medical device manufacturer regarding safe distances. Stop using Apple Watch if you suspect interference with your medical device.

Not a Medical Device

Apple Watch is not a medical device and should not substitute professional medical judgment. It is not intended for diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease. Consult your healthcare provider for health-related decisions.

Medical Conditions

Consult your physician before starting or modifying any exercise program with Apple Watch. Exercise with caution and stop if you feel pain, faint, dizzy, exhausted, or short of breath. You assume inherent risks associated with exercise. If you have medical conditions (e.g., seizures, blackouts, eyestrain, headaches) that could be affected by Apple Watch, consult your physician.

Explosive and Other Atmospheric Conditions

Charging or using Apple Watch in potentially explosive atmospheres (e.g., areas with flammable chemicals, vapors, or dust) can be hazardous. Exposure to high concentrations of industrial chemicals or evaporating gases may damage functionality. Obey all signs and instructions.

High-Consequence Activities

Apple Watch is not intended for use where device failure could lead to death, personal injury, or severe environmental damage.

Choking Hazard

Some Apple Watch bands may present a choking hazard to small children. Keep these bands away from small children.

Skin Sensitivities

Some individuals may experience skin reactions to materials in wearable items due to allergies, environmental factors, or irritants like sweat. Irritation may be more likely with tight wear or if the device and band are not kept clean and dry. Remove Apple Watch if irritation occurs and consult a physician. Continued use may worsen irritation. Materials like nickel, acrylates, and methacrylates are present in some components and bands. While nickel exposure is unlikely, individuals with nickel allergies should be attentive. Acrylates and methacrylates are common in skin-contact products; Apple Watch is designed to minimize direct skin contact with these materials. Materials meet U.S. and European safety standards.

Handling Information

Exposure to Liquid

Apple Watch is water resistant, not waterproof. It can be worn during exercise (sweat is okay), in the rain, and while washing hands. Wipe off splashes with a lint-free cloth. Minimize exposure to perfume, soap, solvents, detergents, acids, insect repellent, lotions, sunscreen, oil, or hair dye. Follow "Cleaning and care" instructions if contact occurs.

Water resistance may diminish over time and cannot be restored. Avoid: dropping, impacts, soap/soapy water (showering/bathing), perfume/solvents/detergents/acids/lotions/sunscreen/oil/hair dye, high-velocity water (water skiing), saunas or steam rooms.

Note: Not all bands are water resistant (e.g., stainless steel, leather). Avoid exposing them to liquids.

Cleaning and Care

Keep Apple Watch, the band, and skin clean and dry, especially after workouts or heavy sweating. Dry thoroughly after exposure to fresh water. Clean Apple Watch if it contacts substances like dirt, sand, makeup, ink, soap, detergent, acids, or other liquids that may cause stains or damage. Colors may vary or fade over time. After swimming with Series 2, 3, 4, or 5, rinse gently with warm tap water.

How to Clean Apple Watch:

To help avoid damaging Apple Watch:

The watch front uses Ion-X glass or sapphire crystal with a fingerprint-resistant coating that wears over time. Cleaning products and abrasives can further diminish this coating and scratch the glass.

Using Buttons, Digital Crown, Connectors, and Ports

Never apply excessive pressure or force connectors into ports, as this may cause damage not covered by warranty. Ensure connectors match ports and are positioned correctly. Cables can fray or break if repeatedly bent. Aim for gentle curves and regularly inspect cables for damage.

Magnetic Charging Cable and Magnetic Charging Dock

Discoloration of the charging surface may occur due to dirt and debris; this is normal. Cleaning the surface with a damp, nonabrasive cloth (and drying thoroughly) may reduce or prevent discoloration and prevent damage. Do not use cleaning products on the charging surface.

Operating Temperature

Apple Watch operates best between 32° and 95° F (0° and 35° C) and stores between -4° and 113° F (-20° and 45° C). Operating or storing outside these ranges can cause damage or shorten battery life. Avoid dramatic temperature/humidity changes. If internal temperature exceeds normal limits (e.g., in a hot car or direct sunlight), expect potential issues like charging slowing/stopping, display dimming, temperature warning screens, paused data transfer, or app closures. Cellular functionality may be affected on certain models, but emergency calls remain possible. If a temperature warning screen appears, move the watch to a cooler location and wait before use. For more information, see Apple Support article "Keep Apple Watch within acceptable operating temperatures."

Magnets

Keep key cards and credit cards away from Apple Watch, bands, and charging accessories.

Band Care Information

Third-Party Bands

Many third-party bands may not fit properly, may interfere with Apple Watch features (like Wrist Detect or Compass), may cause skin sensitivities, or may damage the watch. For best results, use only Apple-branded or authorized bands.

Cleaning Apple-Branded Bands

Remove the band before cleaning. Refer to "Remove, change, and fasten Apple Watch bands" for instructions. This information applies to Apple-branded bands; follow manufacturer instructions for others.
