Printer Introduction
The ELEGOO Mars 4 3D printer is comprised of the following main components:
- 1. Z Axis: The vertical movement system.
- 2. Screw Knob: Used for securing the build plate.
- 3. Build Plate: The platform where the model is printed.
- 4. LCD Display Screen: Shows printer status and interface.
- 5. Resin Tank: Holds the liquid resin.
- 6. USB Interface: For connecting USB drives.
- 7. Switch: Power button.
- 8. Touch Screen: The primary user interface for control.
- 9. Screw Knob: Another knob for securing the build plate.
- 10. Air Purifier: Helps to filter fumes.
The printer also features an Anti-UV Cover and a DC Socket on the rear.
Leveling
Proper leveling is crucial for successful prints. Follow these steps:
- Remove the resin tank. Lock the screw knob of the build plate and loosen the two fixing screws of the build plate until the build plate can move freely.
- Place a leveling card (A4 Paper) between the build plate and the LCD screen. On the touch screen, navigate to and click "Move Z axis to zero". After the printer stops moving, press the top of the build plate with one hand and lock the fixing screws with the other hand.
- Gently pull the leveling card.
- If there is slight resistance, proceed to step 5.
- If there is no resistance, click the Z-axis "down" button in 0.1mm steps until slight resistance is felt when pulling the card.
- If there is too much resistance or the card cannot move, click the Z-axis "up" button in 0.1mm steps until slight resistance is felt.
- Return to the previous menu and click "Set Z=0". A confirmation pop-up will appear; click "Confirm" to complete the setting. The Z-axis position is now reset to the initial height for the first printing layer.
- Go back to the "Manual" page and click the Z-axis "up" button to raise the Z-axis by approximately 100mm.
- Remove the leveling card. Click "Tool", "Exposure", and "Next" buttons to test the LCD screen and LED light source. If the LCD displays "ELEGOO TECHNOLOGY www.elegoo.com", the leveling is complete. Install the resin tank and the printer is ready for printing.
Test Printing
Model Printing
Plug the USB air purifier into the USB port. Slowly add resin to the resin tank, ensuring not to exceed the MAX line height. Cover the printer, insert the U disk, and select the pre-sliced test model for printing.
Model Processing
After printing is complete, wait for the resin on the build plate to stop dripping. Loosen the screw knob of the build plate to remove it. Use a scraper to remove the printed model. Post-processing can be done using ELEGOO's cleaning and curing machine.
Software Installation and Setup
The printer supports Chitu Box and Voxeldance Tango slicing software, available on the USB flash drive. This guide uses Voxeldance Tango as an example.
1. Install Voxeldance Tango
Select the appropriate version of the slicing software from the USB flash drive and install it on your computer.
2. How to Use Voxeldance Tango
2.1 Activation
After installation, run Voxeldance Tango. Select "Activate your license" -> "Activate with printer hardware code". On the printer, navigate to "Settings" -> "System" to find the machine "ID". Enter this 10-digit "ID" into the "Printer Hardware Code" field in the software, along with other required information, to complete activation.
2.2 Slicing and Exporting Models
Click "File" -> "Open File" to load your 3D model file (STL format). You can manipulate the model's viewing angle, size, and position by left-clicking and dragging. Use the upper menu options for further adjustments.
3. Voxeldance Tango Setting
3.1 Printer Selection
Click "Parameter Settings" and choose "ELEGOO MARS 4" as your default printer.
3.2 Build Volume
The default parameters for the build volume (X: 153.36mm, Y: 77.76mm, Z: 175.000mm) do not typically require changes. X indicates the maximum print size in the X-axis direction.
3.3 Resin Parameter
- Resin Density: 1.1g/ml
- Resin Cost: Input the actual resin price to allow the software to calculate printing costs.
3.4 Parameters
- Layer Height: Recommended 0.05mm, adjustable from 0.01-0.2mm. Higher values increase print time.
- Bottom Layer Count: Number of initial printing layers with specific exposure time. Default is 2.
- Exposure Time: Exposure time for normal printing layers. Default is 2.5 seconds.
- Transition Layers: Layers between bottom and normal layers for better adhesion.
- Bottom Exposure Time: Sets exposure for bottom layers to improve adhesion to the build plate. Default is 32 seconds.
- Wait After Lift: Delay after the build plate lifts before it becomes stationary. Default is 0 seconds.
- Wait Before Cure: Delay after the build plate reaches the printing surface before exposure starts. Default is 0.5 seconds.
- Wait After Cure: Delay after exposure ends before the build plate lifts. Default is 0 seconds.
- Bottom Wait After Lift: Delay for bottom layers after lifting. Default is 0 seconds.
- Bottom Wait Before Cure: Delay for bottom layers before exposure. Default is 0.5 seconds.
- Bottom Wait After Cure: Delay for bottom layers after exposure. Default is 0 seconds.
- Bottom Lift Distance: Distance the build plate lifts during bottom layer printing. Default is 2+3mm.

4. Save the Model
After setting parameters, click "Slice". Once slicing is complete, click "export sliced files to U Disk or SD Card". Insert the U disk or SD card into the printer and start printing.
Machine Maintenance
- Avoid using sharp tools to scrape the resin tank to prevent damage to the release liner film.
- Clean the resin tank thoroughly before changing resin colors.
- Before and after each print, clean the build plate with paper towels or alcohol to ensure it is free of bumps or burrs.
- Perform daily checks on the printer's exterior and mechanical parts for any damage or abnormalities.
- Maintain a printing environment temperature of 25-30 degrees Celsius and ensure good ventilation for heat dissipation and resin odor management.
- If the Z-axis makes friction noise, apply lubricant grease to the lead screw every 2-3 months, increasing frequency with usage.
- If the printer will not be used for over 48 hours, pour any remaining resin from the tank back into its bottle and seal it. Filter any residue before storage.
- Inspect the release film before each printing for looseness, scratches, or whitening. Replace it if necessary, typically every 1-2 months, or more frequently with higher usage.
- Handle the printing platform carefully to avoid damaging the LCD screen. The screen has a service life of approximately 2000+ hours. Clean the screen regularly and unplug the printer when not in use. If screen issues affect print quality, replace the screen.
Warranty Statement
- ELEGOO printers come with a 1-year free warranty from the purchase date, excluding consumables like the LCD screen and release film.
- The LCD screen has a 6-month free warranty service.
- The warranty does not cover issues arising from self-disassembly, improper use, or normal wear and tear of the machine housing.
