Introduction to the Raychem NGC-40 System
The Raychem NGC-40 is a sophisticated multipoint electronic control, monitoring, and power distribution system designed for heat tracing applications. It is particularly effective for process temperature, maintenance, and freeze protection. Leveraging innovative modular packaging, the NGC-40 system offers exceptional configuration and component flexibility, allowing for optimization to meet specific customer needs.
This manual details the configuration and maintenance aspects of all Raychem NGC-40 components. For installation, operation, testing, and adjustment information, please refer to the NGC-40 Installation Manual.
Key Features and Capabilities
- Temperature Measurement: Utilizes 3-wire, 100-ohm platinum or 2-wire Nickel/Nickel iron RTDs for accurate temperature readings.
- Control Modes: Supports various control modes including On/Off (Deadband), Proportional, and PASC (Proportional Ambient Sensing Control) for both Electro-Mechanical Relays (EMRs) and Solid State Relays (SSRs).
- Monitoring: Tracks parameters like ground fault, temperature, and load currents to ensure system integrity. Alarms can be individually enabled/disabled and set as latching or non-latching.
- Ground-Fault Protection: Incorporates ground-fault monitoring and trip features, potentially eliminating the need for specialized circuit breakers and reducing overall system cost.
- Communications: Networks with host PCs running Raychem Supervisor client-server software (DTS) and Touch 1500 units. Supports Modbus protocol and provides RS-232/RS-485 and Ethernet communication interfaces via the NGC-40-BRIDGE module.
User Interface
The Raychem NGC-40 system features a touch screen User Interface Terminal (Touch 1500 or TOUCH1500R) with an LCD color display. This interface provides an intuitive and user-friendly experience for programming and monitoring, eliminating the need for complex keyboards or cryptic codes.
Installation Considerations
The Touch 1500 can be installed locally on the Raychem NGC-40 panel door for indoor, nonhazardous locations. For outdoor or hazardous locations, specific protective measures such as a Z Purge system, a protective cover, and a space heater/thermostat may be required. Remote mounting options are also available for difficult-to-access or hazardous panel locations.
