3. Setting the Sensor for Testing
Note: In "TEST" mode, the light operates day or night and stays on for 5 seconds after motion stops.
Note: The motion sensor needs about 90 seconds to warm up before setup.
- Turn the "ON-TIME" dial to "TEST".
- Turn the "DUALBRITE" dial to "OFF".
- Turn the "RANGE" dial to "MIN".
- Aim the motion sensor (C) towards the area to be covered.
[Diagram showing dial settings for testing]
4. Adjusting the Motion Sensor Detection Zone
- Turn on the circuit breaker/fuse and light switch.
- Perform a "walk test": Walk in an arc across the sensor's front.
- Observe the light: it should turn on and the red LED should flash when motion is detected.
- Stop, wait for the light to turn off, then walk again. Repeat until the detection zone is established.
- Adjust the sensor up, down, or side-to-side to change the detection zone.
[Diagram showing walk test and sensor adjustment]
5. Adjusting the RANGE Dial
- To increase detection zone, turn "RANGE" dial towards "MAX".
- To decrease detection zone, turn "RANGE" dial towards "MIN".
- Note: Sensor is more sensitive to side-to-side motion than direct approach.
- Note: Higher "RANGE" (sensitivity) increases false triggering. Turn towards "MIN" to reduce false triggers.
[Diagram showing RANGE dial adjustment]
6. Adjusting the ON-TIME Dial
Note: The "ON-TIME" dial sets how long the light stays on after motion stops. At 1, 5, or 20 minute settings, the light only operates at night.
- Turn the "ON-TIME" dial to the 1, 5, or 20 minute position.
[Diagram showing ON-TIME dial adjustment]
7. Adjusting the DUALBRITE Dial
Note: "DUALBRITE" determines accent light duration after sundown with no motion. Setting to "OFF" does not affect "ON-TIME" or photocell.
- Turn the "DUALBRITE" dial to OFF, 3 hours, 6 hours, or dusk-to-dawn (sunset to sunrise).
[Diagram showing DUALBRITE dial settings]
8. Using Manual Mode
Note: Manual mode overrides the motion sensor for full brightness. Works only at night, for one night at a time. Resets to motion sensing after 6 hours or sunrise. Can be toggled on/off with a wall switch.
- To turn manual mode ON: Turn light OFF at the wall switch for 3-4 seconds, then turn it back ON.
- To turn manual mode OFF: Turn light OFF at the wall switch for 3-4 seconds, then turn it back ON.
- Note: If power is off for over 5 seconds, allow sensor to warm up before switching to manual mode.
[Diagram showing manual mode activation via wall switch]
Care and Cleaning
- To maintain original appearance, clean with clear water and a soft, damp cloth only.
- Do not use paints, solvents, or chemicals; they can cause premature finish deterioration, which is not a defect and not covered by warranty.
- Do not spray the fixture with a hose or power washer.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
The light will not come on. | The light switch is turned off. The bulb is loose or burned out. The fuse is blown or the circuit breaker is turned off. Daylight turn-off (photocell) is in effect. The circuit wiring is incorrect (new installation). |
Turn the light switch on. Check and replace bulb if burned out. Replace fuse or turn on circuit breaker. Recheck after dark. Verify wiring is correct. |
The light comes on during the day. | The motion sensor is aimed incorrectly. The outside air temperature is close to a person's body heat. The motion sensor is installed in a relatively dark location. |
Re-aim the motion sensor. Increase the "RANGE" setting. The fixture is operating normally under these circumstances. |
The light comes on for no apparent reason. | The "ON-TIME" dial is in "TEST" position. The motion sensor may be detecting small animals or automobile traffic. The "RANGE" dial is set too high. The "DUALBRITE" dial is set to 3 hours, 6 hours, or dusk-to-dawn. The outside temperature is much warmer or cooler than a person's body heat. The fixture is wired through a dimmer or timer. The light fixture may be installed in a relatively dark location. |
Turn the "ON-TIME" dial to 1, 5, or 20 minutes. Re-aim the motion sensor. Decrease the "RANGE" setting. The fixture is operating normally under these circumstances. Decrease the "RANGE" setting. Do not use a dimmer or timer; replace with a standard on/off switch. Relocate the fixture or use the 3 or 6 hour setting. |
The lights turn off too late in Dusk-to-Dawn setting. | The light fixture may be installed in a relatively dark location. | Relocate the light fixture or use the 3 hour or 6 hour setting. |
The lights stay on continuously. | A bulb is positioned too close to the motion sensor or pointed at nearby objects that cause heat. The motion sensor may be picking up a heat source (air vent, dryer vent, reflective surface). The motion sensor is in manual mode. The light fixture is wired through a dimmer or timer. The light fixture is on the same circuit as a motor, transformer, or fluorescent bulb. |
Reposition the bulb away from the sensor or nearby objects. Decrease "RANGE" setting or reposition the motion sensor. Switch sensor to auto mode (see page 9). Do not use a dimmer or timer; replace with a standard on/off switch. Install on a circuit without motors, transformers, or fluorescent bulbs. |
The lights flash on and off. | Heat or light from bulbs may be turning the sensor on/off. Heat reflected from other objects may be turning the sensor on/off. The motion sensor is in "TEST" mode and warming up. Light may be leaking through bulb reflectors. The motion sensor is detecting light from the bulbs. |
Reposition bulbs away from the sensor. Reposition the motion sensor. Flashing is normal under these conditions. Replace bulbs with high-quality PAR 38 bulbs. Reposition bulbs to keep the area below the sensor relatively dark. |
The lights flash once then stay off in manual mode. | The motion sensor is detecting light from the bulbs. | Reposition bulbs to keep the area below the motion sensor relatively dark. |
