Installation Steps
Relocate Brake Cable Guide:
- A. Locate the rearmost brake cable guide bracket and remove it using a 13mm Socket or wrench.
- B. Use the supplied relocation bracket (19) and mount it to the frame as shown. Attach the factory guide to the bracket using the supplied Bolt (20) and nut (8).
Mount Linkage Assemblies:
- Locate mounting points: the first and last set of studs on the inner sill. The Motor Linkage mounts toward the front of the truck, and the Idler mount toward the rear. (Driver side shown).
- Mount the drive and Idler linkage assemblies. Repeat for the passenger side. Ensure linkages sit square and are fully resting on studs before tightening. Torque to 16 ft. lbs (22Nm).
Wire Harness and Controller Installation:
- Remove fuse from wire harness (4).
- Attach wire harness to the controller (5), ensuring connector locking tabs fully engage. Mount the controller with two 11" tie wraps to the factory conduit, just forward of the battery.
- Route the shorter leg of the harness down the passenger-side wheel well and the longer leg of the harness down along the driver side wheel well. Secure with tie wraps.
- Attach the harness ground to a body ground located on the inner fender. Connect the red leads to the positive terminal on the battery.
- Route the factory harness underneath the vehicle and plug in the motors (both sides). Route remaining LED light wires back towards the rear of the vehicle.
Accessing Vehicle Interior for Wiring:
- Remove the driver side front kick panel and door sill plate. Roll back the carpet to access the hole for passing trigger wires into the vehicle's cabin.
- On Crew Cab models: Remove the grommet in the floor panel above the front linkage on the driver side. Poke a small hole into the grommet and thread the two trigger wires through and up into the cabin. Seal the grommet with silicone sealer.
- On Super Cab models: Use a 9/32" drill bit to drill a hole through the floor and insert grommet (#9) supplied with the kit. Thread the wires through and apply silicone sealant.
Module Installation and Wiring:
- Locate the black module just above the e-brake pedal. Remove it from its bracket by pushing the tab and sliding the bracket downward for easier access.
- Locate the following wires (black connector) and connect the blue and white wires of the Powerstep Connection Module with the supplied Posi-Tap™ (18) to the following wire colors:
- Factory Can Wire: Green w/blue stripe -> Powerstep Connection Module wire color: White
- Factory Can Wire: White w/green stripe -> Powerstep Connection Module wire color: Blue
- After connecting wires, slide the module back onto its bracket, ensuring the locking tab engages.
- Use the supplied Posi-Lock™ (17) to attach the 2 purple wires of the OBD harness to the main harness. Attach matching colors on the harness to the wires on the module. Lastly, reinstall the factory OBD port removed earlier. Plug the module into the vehicle's OBD port. Reinstall the sill plate removed in step 9.
OBD II Installation Options:
- Use supplied Posi-Lock™ connectors to attach the Plug and Play Module to the Harness. Attach matching colors on the harness to the wires on the module. Plug the module into the OBD II port on the vehicle. Secure the harness with supplied tie wraps.
- Note: If the OBD II pass-thru harness (76404-01A) was purchased, refer to the install sheet supplied in packaging. The pass-through harness allows for an open port for other accessories.
- Direct to Port Option: Connects the Powerstep Control Module and Powerstep Connection Module directly to the vehicle's OBD II port.
- Pass-Through Harness: Connects the Powerstep Control Module and Powerstep Connection Module via a pass-through harness, leaving the original OBD II port available or providing a new one.
Running Board Attachment and LED Installation:
- Attach the step, sliding the mounting T-nut into position. Torque to 10 ft lbs (13.5 Nm).
- On each side of the vehicle, measure from the rear linkage to the end of the board. The measurement should be approximately 11".
- On each side of the vehicle, use tape to mark the LED drill location, two sections from the studs as shown. Locations are approximately 22" & 66" from the front door edge.
- Drive Side Rear Mounted: (In between two rivets just forward of the mounting location). Mark hole location 1/2" midpoint of the rocker with tape, center punch, and drill a 19/64" hole into the pinch weld. Deburr the hole and insert grommet (#12) for the LED Wire.
- Drive Side Front Mounted: (Just under the left edge of the body-brace). Route LED wires through the grommet, clean the surface, and stick onto the rocker panel as shown.
Final Wiring and System Check:
- Using supplied butt connectors (13), connect the lamp wires. Connect Red to Red, and Black to Black. Heat the shrink tubing on the connectors to seal the wires.
- Close and wrap with conduit and electrical tape. Secure all loose wires with cable ties, pulling lamp wires upward to avoid any wire snagging.
- Replace fuse (4).
Final System Check
Check that all doors activate the PowerStep and the LED lights work when doors open and close.
Normal Operation: When the doors open, PowerStep automatically deploys from under the vehicle. When the doors are closed, PowerStep will automatically return to the stowed/retracted position. Note that there is a 2-second delay before the PowerStep returns to the stowed/retracted position.
Correct Operation of Lights: All four lamps will illuminate upon opening any door of the vehicle. Lamps will stay on until restowing of both Power Steps or until 5 minutes has expired with the doors open. When the lights timeout after 5 minutes, they can be reilluminated by closing and opening any door of the vehicle.

Product Operation & Warranty
Power-Deployable Running Boards Operation
AMP Research PowerStep running boards automatically move when the doors are opened to assist entering and exiting the vehicle.
- Automatic power deploy: The running boards will extend down and out when the doors are opened.
- Automatic power stow: The running boards will return to the stowed position when the doors are closed. There will be a 2-second delay before the running boards move to the stowed position.
- Automatic stop: If an object is in the way of the moving running board, the running board will automatically stop. To reset, clear any obstruction, then simply open and close the door to resume normal operation.
- Manually set in the deployed (OUT) position for access to the roof: The running boards can be manually set in the deployed position by firmly holding the step down with your foot while at the same time closing the door. To resume normal operation, open and close the door.
Maintenance
In adverse conditions, debris such as mud, dirt, and salt may become trapped in the running board mechanism, possibly leading to unwanted noise. If this occurs, manually set the running boards to the deployed position and flush the front and rear hinge arms with a high-pressure car wash wand. Avoid spraying the motors directly. After washing, apply silicone spray lubricant to the hinge pivot pins. Do not apply silicone, wax or protectants like Armor All® to the running board stepping surface.
Caution! Keep hands away when the running board is in motion.
