Introduction & Safety

This document provides essential instructions for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of Hayward TBH and CVH Series True Union Ball Valves. It is crucial to read and understand all safety warnings and guidelines before proceeding to prevent product damage, property damage, personal injury, or even death. Hayward Flow Control products are designed for specific applications and require careful handling and installation.

Key safety considerations include avoiding use with compressible fluids (like air or nitrogen), ensuring the valve is used only for liquid service, respecting temperature limitations (especially for PVC/CPVC), and always depressurizing and draining systems before installation or maintenance.

Installation

Proper installation ensures the longevity and performance of the valve. Key steps and considerations include:

• Storing valves in their original packaging, indoors, at room temperature, and out of direct sunlight.
• Mounting the valve using the footpad with appropriate hardware, ensuring correct torque.
• Integrating the valve into the piping system, ensuring proper alignment to avoid mechanical stress.
• Following specific procedures for threaded, solvent-weld, and flange connections, including the correct use of PTFE tape for threaded joints and appropriate torque for flange bolts.
• Never using assembly nuts to pull system components together or forcing parts into place, as this can lead to undue loading and failure.
• For valves with actuators, supporting the actuator's weight independently and referring to actuator-specific instructions.

Operation

The TBH Series valves are generally bi-directional, while TBH-Z Series with vented balls are uni-directional and marked with a flow arrow. Operation involves rotating the handle clockwise for closing and counter-clockwise for opening. The valve can be locked in the fully open or closed position using a suitable lock through the lockplate.

For valves not operated frequently, periodic operation (at least once every six months) is recommended to maintain functionality.

Maintenance

Maintenance procedures, such as replacing end connector O-rings or internal seats and seals, require the system to be depressurized and drained. Specific steps involve careful disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly using appropriate lubricants (e.g., Krytox™ GPL203). Always refer to the detailed sections for specific part replacement.
