Important Notes for Stack Installation
Install the flight controller stack in the standard orientation (Flight Controller on top, ESC on the bottom). If you need to change the gyroscope direction or motor order, this must be done through the 'Settings'. Improper installation that leads to damage is not covered under warranty.
Connecting Flight Controller and ESC
Use the included 8-pin cable to connect the Flight Controller and ESC. Alternatively, you can solder the 8 wires directly to the corresponding pads on both units.
Method 1: Using the 8-pin Cable
Connect either end of the 8-pin JST cable to the Flight Controller and the ESC.
Method 2: Direct Soldering
Solder the 8 wires directly to the 8 pads on both the Flight Controller and the ESC. The wiring diagram shows the connections: GND, BTA, M1, M2, M3, M4, CUR, TEL on the FC side connecting to GND, VBAT, S1, S2, S3, S4, CURRENT, N/A on the ESC side respectively.
Part 2 - SpeedyBee F405 V3 Flight Controller
Appearance Description
The F405 V3 Flight Controller features various components and connection points. Key elements include:
- LED Indicators: Red (Power), Green (Gyro Status), Blue (FC Status), Green (LED Control Mode). The green LED indicates whether the LEDs are controlled by the gyro chip or the FC firmware. A short press of the BOOT button can cycle through LED colors/modes, and a long press (3 seconds) switches between BF LED mode and SB LED mode.
- BOOT Button: Used for firmware flashing and controlling onboard LEDs.
- MCU: F405
- USB Type-C Port
- MicroSD Card Slot: Supports up to 4GB, formatted with FAT32.
- Connectors: For FPV Camera, Receiver, DJI Air Unit, GPS & Magnetometer, LEDs, Buzzer, and ESC connection (8-pin seat).
- Onboard Peripherals: OSD Chip (AT7456E), Bluetooth Chip, Gyro (BMI270).
LED Indicator Details
- Red Light: Power indicator, solid when powered on.
- Green Light (Gyro Status): Solid when gyro is connected.
- Blue Light: FC status light, controlled by FC firmware.
- Green Light (LED Control Mode): Indicates if the 4 sets of LED strips on the corners are controlled by the FC firmware or the gyro chip. Solid green means controlled by the gyro chip; flashing green means controlled by the FC firmware.
BOOT Button Functionality
[A] Firmware Flashing: If the FC firmware is corrupted, follow these steps to re-flash: (1) Connect the USB cable to the computer. (2) Press and hold the BOOT button, then connect the USB cable to the FC, and release the BOOT button. (3) Open the Betaflight/INAV configurator on your computer, go to the 'Firmware Flasher' page, select 'SPEEDYBEEF405V3', and proceed with flashing.
[B] LED Control: In standby mode, the BOOT button controls the 4 sets of LEDs (LED1-LED4). A short press cycles through colors/modes. A long press switches between SpeedyBee LED mode and BF LED mode. In BF LED mode, the LEDs are controlled by the Betaflight firmware.
Receiver Connections
SBUS Receiver: The SBUS signal must be connected to the dedicated SBUS pad on the Flight Controller (which uses UART2 internally). If you are using a DJI Air Unit and connecting it via the dedicated DJI socket on the back of the FC, you must disconnect the SBUS signal wire from the DJI Air Unit's cable. Otherwise, the SBUS receiver may not be recognized correctly. You can desolder the SBUS wire from the APIN connector or cut it and insulate the end.
ELRS Receiver: When using an ELRS receiver, connect the receiver's TX to the FC's RX2 pad and the receiver's RX to the FC's TX2 pad. If using a DJI Air Unit simultaneously, you may need to disconnect the SBUS signal from the DJI Air Unit's cable to avoid issues. Desolder the SBUS wire from the 6-pin connector or cut it and insulate it.
Connecting to Video Transmitters
O3 Air Unit: Use the 6-pin cable included with the O3 Air Unit.
RunCam Link / Caddx Vista Air Unit: Use the 6-pin cable (item #10) included with the F405 V3 Stack.
DJI Air Unit V1: Use the 6-pin cable (item #10) included with the F405 V3 Stack.
Getting the SpeedyBee App
Search for "Speedy Bee" on your app store (e.g., Google Play Store for Android, App Store for iOS) to download the application.
Flight Controller Parameter Tuning
Connect your mobile device to the Flight Controller via Bluetooth. Open the SpeedyBee App and select your device. You can then access various settings and tune parameters.
Flight Controller Firmware Update
The SpeedyBee F405 V3 Flight Controller does not support wireless firmware flashing. Update the firmware using a computer:
- Connect the Flight Controller to your computer using a USB cable.
- Open the Betaflight/INAV configurator. For Betaflight, navigate to the 'Firmware Flasher' page, select 'SPEEDYBEEF405V3', and initiate the flash.
