Important Tips for Installing the Flight Stack
Ensure the flight stack is installed in the standard manner, with the flight controller (FC) on top and the electronic speed controller (ESC) on the bottom. Improper installation can lead to damage not covered by warranty. The manual illustrates correct and incorrect installation methods.
FC & ESC Connection
The FC and ESC can be connected using the provided 8-pin cable or by direct soldering of 8 wires. Diagrams illustrate both methods, including pad definitions for direct soldering.
Method 1 - Using 8-pin cable: Connect the FC to the ESC using the 8-pin JST cable.
Method 2 - Direct soldering: Solder 8 wires to the respective pads on the FC and ESC, following the provided pad definitions.
Part 2 - SpeedyBee F405 V3 Flight Controller
Layout
Detailed diagrams show the layout of the F405 V3 Flight Controller, identifying various components and connectors such as FPV Cam, Receiver, Bluetooth Chip, OSD Chip, USB Type-C Port, and various UART ports.
LED Indicator Definition:
- RED LED: Power Indicator. Solid Red after powering up.
- GREEN LED: Bluetooth status light. Solid Green indicates Bluetooth is connected.
- BLUE LED: Flight controller status light controlled by firmware.
- Orange LED: LED Control Mode Indicator. Indicates if LED strips are controlled by Betaflight firmware (BF_LED mode) or Bluetooth chip (SB_LED mode).
BOOT Button:
- Used for re-flashing firmware when the FC is bricked.
- Can be used to control LED strips when the FC is powered on and in standby mode. Short-press cycles display modes; long-press switches between SpeedyBee-LED and BF-LED modes.
FC's Peripheral Connection
Instructions and diagrams are provided for connecting various peripherals to the FC, including Spektrum SRXL2 Receiver, PPM Receiver, ELRS Receiver, SBUS Receiver, Crossfire Nano Rx, RunCam, DJI Air Unit, and Buzzer.
Importance notice for SBUS receiver: When using an SBUS receiver, connect the SBUS signal wire to the SBUS pad on the front side. If using the DJI Air Unit, disconnect the SBUS signal wire from the Air Unit harness to avoid conflicts.
Importance notice for ELRS receiver: When using an ELRS receiver with the DJI Air Unit, it may be necessary to disconnect the SBUS signal wire from the Air Unit harness for proper recognition.
Cable Connection vs DJI Air Unit: Diagrams show cable connections for DJI O3 Air Unit, RunCam Link/Caddx Vista Air Unit, and DJI Air Unit V1 using the provided 6-pin cables.
App & FC Configuration
Get the SpeedyBee App: Download the SpeedyBee app from Google Play, App Store, or the Android .apk file from the SpeedyBee website.
FC Configuration: The app allows for configuration of ports, motor directions, and PID values. Screenshots demonstrate the process of connecting the FC via the app.
FC Firmware Update
The SpeedyBee F405 V3 flight controller does not support wireless firmware flashing. Firmware must be flashed via a PC using a USB cable and Betaflight/INAV configurator. Steps involve connecting the FC, opening the configurator, selecting the target 'SPEEDYBEEF405V3', and flashing.

Part 3 - SpeedyBee BLS 60A 4-in-1 ESC
Layout
Diagrams show the layout of the BLS 60A 4-in-1 ESC, identifying motor outputs, capacitor connections, and the 8-pin connector to the FC.
Connection with Motors & Power Cable
Diagrams illustrate the connection of motors and the XT60 power cable to the ESC. It is recommended to use the included Low ESR capacitor to prevent damage from voltage spikes.
Note 1: Use the Low ESR capacitor to prevent the stack from being burnt out by voltage spikes on powering up.
Note 2: The FC and ESC can also be connected via direct soldering. Soldering pad definitions are provided.
ESC Configuration
The ESC can be configured using the SpeedyBee app or PC configurators like the ESC Configurator website (http://www.esc-configurator.com).
Using SpeedyBee App:
- Open the SpeedyBee app and navigate to the ESC Configurator.
- Select the connection method (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth).
- Connect to the SpeedyBee F405 V3.
Using PC Configurators: Visit http://www.esc-configurator.com/ for configuration.
ESC Firmware Update
The 8-bit 60A ESC supports BLHeliS or Bluejay firmware. The default firmware is BLHeliS. Firmware flashing steps involve removing propellers, connecting the FC to the ESC, powering up the drone, connecting the FC to a computer via USB, and visiting https://www.esc-configurator.com/. Follow the on-screen instructions, ensuring the 'ESC' type is selected as 'J-H-50' on the sixth interface.
