Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tiny Gen 2

Overview

The ThinkStation P3 Tiny Gen 2 is the latest desktop workstation in the ThinkStation family, succeeding the P3 Tiny. Unlike traditional desktops, the P3 Tiny Gen 2 does not feature an internal power supply. Instead, it utilizes an external power adapter, similar to those used with ThinkPad or ThinkStation Ultra SFF computers. Three external power adapter options are available for the P3 Ultra, with power ratings of 170W, 230W, and 330W. This document aims to provide detailed specifications of system components with the highest power demands, enabling informed decisions when selecting the appropriate PSU for your hardware configuration.

Section 1 – Key Architectural Design

The P3 Tiny Gen 2 is powered by an external power adapter connected to the rear of the system. The three available power adapters are rated for 100-240V AC input and provide a 20V DC output. The power cord connector is a 20V type, also found on some ThinkPad computers. Figure 1 illustrates the rear view of the P3 Tiny Gen 2, highlighting its connectors:

Item Descriptions:

The P3 Tiny Gen 2 is equipped with a single PCIe x16 slot designed to accommodate select low-profile GPUs and other PCIe cards. This is achieved through a PCIe x16 riser card for supported GPUs or a PCIe x4 riser card for other PCIe devices. Figure 2 shows the motherboard's PCIe slot on the P3 Tiny Gen 2, with no PCIe device installed.

Section 2 – Power Ratings for Key System Components

To fully understand the power capabilities of the ThinkStation P3 Tiny Gen 2, it is essential to know the power ratings of its individual system components. The following tables detail the power ratings for the various CPUs supported by the P3 Tiny Gen 2. All supported CPUs include integrated graphics.

Table 1 - Arrow Lake CPUs Power Rating

CPU Name CPU Power Additional CPU Information
Intel Ultra 9 285 65W 2.5 GHz, 24 cores, DDR5-6400

Section 4 – Board-To-Board (BTB) Cards

The P3 Tiny Gen 2 offers expanded system rear I/O capabilities through the use of Board-To-Board (BTB) cards. Two BTB connectors on the motherboard facilitate extensive customization based on user requirements. This section covers the currently available BTB cards. It is important to note that when any BTB cards are installed, no PCIe device can be placed in the PCIe x16 slot. Consult the Appendix for images and part numbers of all supported BTB cards.
