3. Installation

3.1 Installing a Memory Card (Recommended: Vantrue U3 high-speed micro SD card)

Please insert a memory card with a capacity of 32GB-1TB and a speed of U3/Class10/A2. The dashcam has specific requirements for card speed to ensure reliable operation. VANTRUE SD cards are recommended (sold separately).

Memory Card Installation: An icon indicates the insertion direction. Push the memory card into the slot until a "click" sound is heard, confirming proper insertion.

Before using the card, format it properly: If the camera is recording, press the [Checkmark icon] to pause recording, then press the [Menu icon] to enter the menu. Navigate to "System", select "Format SD Card", and confirm to format. The screen will prompt "Formatted successfully."

If the screen prompts "Card error, please format" after inserting the memory card (meaning the recorder is not recording), press the [Menu icon] directly to enter the menu and start the formatting process.

REMINDER:

  1. It is recommended to format the card once a month for normal dash cam operation.
  2. Do not remove or insert the memory card during recording to avoid losing important videos.
  3. Avoid using bad or low-speed cards, as they can cause recording to stop or data loss.
  4. Before formatting, check the emergency video folder on the SD card for any videos that need to be saved separately to prevent accidental deletion.

3.2 Installing the camera onto your windshield

  1. Align the mount with the dash cam mount interface and push until it is installed. The mount connects to the top of the dash cam, which then attaches to the windshield.
  2. Thoroughly clean the windshield with water or alcohol, then wipe it with a dry cloth. Stick the electrostatic sticker behind the rear-view mirror, which is the recommended position to prevent blocking your view while driving. Note: There are two protective films (numbered 1 and 2). Remove film No. 1, paste the electrostatic sticker on the windshield, then remove film No. 2.
  3. Remove the 3M tape from the mount, then fix the mount and camera onto the electrostatic stickers.
  4. Connect the car charger to the car cigarette lighter, then insert the USB end of the charger into the Type C USB power port of the camera. The camera will power on immediately after the car is started. When organizing or storing car charger cables, cable clips can be used for securing them in place. After attaching the cable clip to a suitable spot, simply fasten the cables within the clip.

3.3 APP Download

Scan the QR code for the relevant version to download the VANTRUE APP. Alternatively, search for "Vantrue" in the App Store or Google Play Store to find and install the app on your phone.

Note: After the camera is successfully connected to a mobile phone via WiFi, it enables real-time video preview, camera settings changes, and file downloads without an internet connection. GPS track playback and video sharing functions, however, require internet or telecom value-added services (which means turning off/disconnecting the camera's WiFi).

3.4 WiFi Connection

Turn on the WiFi function of the camera. On your mobile phone, go to WiFi settings, find the WiFi name (e.g., E1 Pro_VANTRUE_XXXX), and enter the default WiFi password: 12345678 to connect.

3.5 App Connection

After successful WiFi connection, click "+" when opening the app for the first time to add the camera model. The app will automatically connect to the camera and display the real-time recording situation.

Note:

  1. If WiFi is not connected before opening the app, the app will prompt "Please connect to WiFi first" and automatically jump to WiFi settings. Complete the WiFi connection steps first.
  2. If WiFi is connected but the app jumps to application permissions after model selection, check if wireless network permissions for the app are enabled.
  3. The initial password is for initial login only. Change it after initial login to prevent unauthorized access.
  4. If you forget the WiFi password, restore the device to default settings; the WiFi password will also revert to 12345678.
  5. If the connected WiFi name does not match your dash cam model, the app will prompt "Please select the correct model" and jump back to the model selection interface.
  6. If there is no mobile phone connection after WiFi is turned on, the camera will automatically turn off WiFi and return to the recording interface after 10 minutes.

3.6 App Operation

After entering the app's real-time preview, you can perform the following operations:

3.7 App Upgrade

Open the "Vantrue" App, connect to Wi-Fi, and navigate to Settings > About > Detect New Version. The app will automatically check for updates. Follow prompts to upgrade if a new version is available.

4. Basic Operation

4.1 Menu Settings

The E1 Pro dash cam has three function menus: record settings, system settings, and file browsing. You can configure your dash cam according to your requirements.

Press the [Checkmark icon] button to pause the video first, then press the [Menu icon] button to enter the menu settings.

A. Record Setup

B. System Setup

C. File browsing includes

View video and photo files recorded by the dash cam.

4.2 Main Functions

4.2.1 Loop Recording

After inserting the memory card and connecting power, the E1 Pro dash cam automatically turns on and enters loop recording. Video duration is saved in the normal video folder based on your set loop recording time. When the normal video folder reaches 70% capacity, new loop recording files automatically overwrite older ones to ensure continuous recording.

Notice:

  1. Normal loop recording depends on memory card speed. Format regularly to avoid issues from excessive files or card aging.
  2. Regularly check loop recording videos to prevent important ones from being overwritten.
  3. If loop recording is off, the lock video function will not work.
  4. If loop recording is off, video duration is 20 minutes, and recording stops when memory card capacity is full.

4.2.2 Event Recording

Event video is triggered by the G-sensor (Gravity Sensor) automatically or can be manually locked. During driving, the camera automatically locks for event recording in special circumstances, or you can manually lock it.

To manually lock the video, press the [Power/Event button] to lock the current video and capture it. During the locked video period, you can press the [AD button] multiple times to capture. After recording, video and photos are saved in the event video folder and photo folder, respectively. Automatic locking occurs when the car is hit/shaken; the dash cam detects vibration and locks the current video, saving it to the event video folder. During locked recording, you can also press the [AD button] to take a picture. After event video recording ends, the video is saved in the emergency video folder, and the photo is saved in the photo folder.

Note:

  1. Automatic locking video trigger sensitivity depends on collision sensitivity. Higher sensitivity increases trigger probability.
  2. Event video files account for 30% of total memory card capacity. When the limit is reached, new event videos overwrite old ones. Periodically check and save event videos to prevent loss.
  3. Lock recording will not trigger if loop recording is off or time-lapse recording is on.

4.2.3 Parking Mode (When parking mode is on, time-lapse video function will not work. These two functions cannot run simultaneously.)

Parking Mode acts as a sentry function. You can switch between different parking monitoring modes. After parking mode is on, there are two ways to record: wait 5 minutes for automatic restart, or long press the [V button] to begin manually.

Collision Detection

When enabled, the [Collision Detection icon] appears on the recording interface. Sensitivity can be adjusted from 1 to 5 levels based on habits and car surroundings.

When Collision Detection is on and no movement is detected for 5 minutes of recording (5-minute entry mechanism), Collision Detection activates. The [Collision Detection icon] appears, and the camera automatically turns off. When the dash cam is turned off, it records for 1 minute after being shaken, then turns off again.

Note: If the dash cam continues to be hit during collision detection recording, it exits collision detection mode and enters normal recording, restarting the 5-minute entry mechanism.

Motion Detection

When Motion Detection is on, the [Motion Detection icon] appears on the recording interface. Sensitivity has three levels (low/medium/high) and detection ranges of 6.6ft/13ft/19.7ft.

When no movement is detected for 5 minutes, an orange icon appears, and the screen turns off after 3 minutes.

Video recording process: When movement is detected, the camera triggers 30 seconds of video recording. After motion detection recording ends, a 15-second pre-recorded video is loaded into the 30-second motion detection video, saving a 45-second video to the normal folder.

Note:

  1. Motion detection mode only works when the camera is on. It will not work if the camera is off.
  2. The resolution of the motion detection pre-recording function is based on the dashcam's default resolution, and pre-recording supports 4K.
Low Bitrate Recording

When low bitrate mode is on, the [1080P 15FPS icon] or [720P 15FPS icon] appears in the lower right corner. If no movement is detected for 5 minutes, a [15FPS icon] appears in the center. All current video resolution switches to 1080P 15FPS or 720P 15FPS, and recording duration is determined by the loop recording duration. If the camera vibrates or moves, it exits, waits 5 minutes, and re-enters.

Note: Low Bitrate recording only works when the camera is on. It will not work if the camera is off.

Low Framerate mode

When low framerate mode is selected, the camera records at 1FPS/5FPS/10FPS/15FPS. For example, if 1FPS is selected and the current video resolution framerate is 30FPS, the recorder generates a 30FPS video per second. Low framerate mode preserves video integrity and saves memory space.

Formula for calculating real recording time:
[Real Recording Time(Sec) = Low Framerate Video Time Length(Sec) x Video Frame Rate(FPS) / Low Framerate Option (FPS)]
(Time should be converted into seconds)

4.2.4 Time Lapse

When time lapse is selected, the camera records at 1FPS/5FPS/10FPS/15FPS. For example, if 1FPS is selected and the current video resolution framerate is 30FPS, the recorder generates a 30FPS video per second. Low framerate mode preserves video integrity and saves memory space.

Note:

  1. The time unit in the calculation formula is seconds. Convert to other time units as needed.
  2. Low framerate mode is similar to time-lapse recording, but without the 5-minute entry mechanism; it turns on directly after setting.
  3. In low framerate mode, the camera requires a stable power supply. If power is off or exhausted, the camera will shut down.

Formula for calculating video duration:
[Real Recording Time(Sec) = Time Lapse Video Time Length(Sec) x Video Frame Rate(FPS) / Time Lapse Option (FPS)]
(Time should be converted into seconds)

4.2.5 GPS Function

GPS is a crucial function, enabled by default. The camera receives GPS signals via the GPS mount, automatically correcting time and date, and recording video location and car speed. The GPS Information display shows signal strength.

Note:

  1. GPS connection completes within 1 minute of device turn-on. If unsuccessful, check if GPS function is on, if the GPS bracket is connected, and if the environment (e.g., underground parking, dense areas, tunnels) affects signal reception.
  2. GPS information is recorded with video. To view it, download and install the VANTRUE App and VANTRUE GPS Player (available at www.vantrue.net).

4.2.6 Automatic Time via GPS

The E1 Pro dash cam's automatic GPS time correction is default ON. Select your time zone (e.g., GMT-08:00 for Los Angeles). If unsure of your time zone, connect to the Vantrue app via WiFi and confirm the automatic time adjustment function in the app is on.

4.2.7 Voice Assistant

In addition to remote control, the camera can be controlled by voice commands. Supported languages include English, Japanese, Russian, and Chinese. For detailed commands, check System Settings > Voice Content. Default sensitivity is standard; options include low, high, and off.

4.2.8 Display Settings

The E1 Pro offers two screen display modes: full-screen and panorama. Full-screen mode provides a larger display ratio but may lose some left and right viewing angles. Panorama mode displays all content seen by the camera with a 4:3 video screen ratio.

4.2.9 Viewing Video/Photos

a. Viewing files on the Camera

After clicking "Files," enter a folder. To view files, press the [V button] to select the next file, or press the [V button] to delete the file during playback.

Delete Videos

To delete videos on the camera, press the [Power/Event button] in the file browsing interface to open the delete menu.

b. Viewing files on a Computer
  1. Connect the included TYPE-C USB data cable to the camera and the computer.
  2. After successful connection, the [USB connection icon] appears on the camera display for data transfer. You can then view video files in the computer folder.
  3. Depending on your computer system, the camera will appear as a removable drive or folder.
  4. To view files, access directly or right-click to open the menu and delete them.
  5. You can also use a USB card reader to access memory card information.
c. View on the "Vantrue"App

After the camera is successfully connected to the mobile phone via WiFi, you can play back, download, and delete files in the mobile app.

Note:

  1. Video playback in the app or downloads to SD card do not consume network traffic.
  2. GPS track information is viewable only after the video file is downloaded and played back locally. You must disconnect the dash cam's WiFi, otherwise map information will be blank.

4.2.10 Upgrading the Firmware

The system automatically updates with the Micro-SD card firmware upgrade file. The camera restarts after the upgrade. The latest firmware is always available on the official VANTRUE website (www.vantrue.net). Registering your product (www.vantrue.net/register) is recommended to receive firmware update notifications.

4.2.11 Working Temperature

The camera operates in temperatures from -4 to 158°F (-20 to 70°C). Temperatures outside this range risk degrading performance and causing damage.
