Installing Your Hard Drive in the Enclosure
Step 1: Prepare the Enclosure
- Remove the two screws from the back panel.
- Pull the tray out from the enclosure.

Step 2: Secure the Hard Drive
- Place a formatted hard drive into the tray.
- Connect the data connector to the corresponding connector on the enclosure board.
- Turn the tray over and secure the drive to the metal plate with the two provided screws.

Step 3: Reassemble the Enclosure
- Slide the assembled tray back into the enclosure.
- Secure it with the two screws previously removed.

Connecting the Enclosure to a Computer
Connection Steps
- Plug a USB 2.0 cable into the enclosure.
- Plug the cable into a USB port on the computer. The operating system should automatically recognize the new drive.

Important Note on Power
The enclosure comes with a USB 2.0 Y-cable. One connector is for data and bus power, while the other is for additional power if required. To ensure sufficient power, connect both A male-type connectors to the computer. The operating system will automatically detect and set up the new drive.
Formatting the Drive (If Necessary)
If the drive is not formatted, follow these steps:
For Macintosh Users:
- Double-click Macintosh HD.
- Click the Applications folder.
- Click the Utilities folder.
- Double-click Disk Utility.
- In the left pane, select the drive you want to format.
- Click the Erase tab.
- Verify Volume Format is set to MS-DOS file system.
- Click Erase.
For Windows Users:
- Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
- Click Disk Management in the left pane.
- Right-click the drive/device you want to format and select Format.
- If a warning about an active partition appears, click Yes.
- Click OK to format.
Installing the Backup Software
Software Compatibility
The Roxio BackOnTrack software runs on Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Windows 7 computers using USB.
Installation Notes
- Connect the hard drive enclosure to your computer before installing the software.
- Ensure your Windows operating system is updated to the latest service pack before installing the backup software.
Installation Steps
- Save all files and close all programs.
- Insert the included CD into the computer. The introductory screen should appear automatically. If it does not, double-click the autorun.exe file on the CD.
- Click Install Roxio® BackOnTrack™ 3 LE. The Welcome screen will open.
- Click Next to begin the installation.
- Follow the instructions in the setup wizard, clicking Next to continue.
- Click Finish to finalize installation.
- Refer to the User Guide located on the CD for information on using the software.
Disconnecting the Enclosure from Your Computer
For Windows Users:
- Right-click the [Safely Remove Hardware icon] (usually located near the clock on the taskbar).
- Select the device you want to unplug, then click STOP.
- When Windows notifies you that it is safe to do so, unplug the enclosure from your computer.
For Macintosh Users:
- Drag the USB icon into the TRASH.
- Unplug the enclosure.
