It supports advanced QoS, low-latency real-time applications, mesh networks, captive portals, a Gigabit Ethernet port with PoE/PoE+, and a 2.5 Gigabit SFP port, making it suitable for enterprises, multi-floor offices, warehouses, hospitals, and schools.
Precautions
- [!] Do not attempt to open, disassemble, or modify the device.
- [!] Do not expose this device to temperatures outside the range of -30°C to 60°C for operating and -30°C to 70°C for storage.
- [!] Do not expose the GWN7660ELR to environments outside the humidity range of 5-95% RH (non-condensing).
- [!] Do not power cycle the GWN7660ELR access point during system boot up or firmware upgrade, as this may corrupt firmware images and cause the unit to malfunction.
- [!] Take lightning protection measures during installation (a lightning rod is required and the device must be reliably grounded). It is recommended to use a surge protection device.

Powering and Connecting the GWN7660ELR
The GWN7660ELR can be powered on using a PoE/PoE+ switch or a PoE injector:
- Plug an RJ45 Ethernet cable into the network port of the GWN7660ELR.
- Plug the other end into the uplink port of the PoE/PoE+ switch or PoE injector.
Note: If connecting via the SFP port, connect the RJ45 Ethernet port to a PoE/PoE+ switch or PoE injector without the uplink to power the device.
A diagram illustrates connecting an RJ45 Ethernet Cable to a (PoE/PoE+) Switch or PoE Injector, showing the RJ45 and SFP ports on the device.
Hardware Installation
The GWN7660ELR can be mounted on a wall or a metal bar. Follow the steps below for appropriate installation.
Waterproof Kits Installation Steps
If Ethernet (RJ45) or SFP port is not used, use the O-ring and nut plug to seal the port for waterproofing. To use the port, remove it with a flat screwdriver.
- Place the O-ring between the port and the front clamp nut. Place the Ethernet/Fiber joint between the front and back of the clamp nut.
- Insert the Ethernet/Fiber cable through the O-ring, front clamp nut, Ethernet/Fiber joint, and back clamp nut. If the RJ45/Fiber connector is attached, remove and reattach it.
- Connect the Ethernet (RJ45) or Fiber (SFP module) to the appropriate port. Screw the front clamp nut to the GWN7660ELR port and the back clamp nut to the front clamp nut.
Note: Use a 5mm diameter Ethernet cable and a 2.8mm diameter Fiber cable. If the cable is too small, the device may leak.
Diagrams illustrate the waterproof kit components (O-Ring, Nut Plug, Front Clamp Nut, Back Clamp Nut, Sealing Plugs, Ethernet Cable) and the assembly process for sealing ports.
Wall Mount Installation
- Refer to the waterproof kits installation steps.
- Connect the Ethernet (RJ45) or Fiber (SFP module) cable to the correct GWN7660ELR port and tighten the waterproof joints.
- Attach the Base Bracket to the back of the GWN7660ELR access point using HM 5.0 x 12 screws.
- Drill four holes on the wall based on the mounting bracket's hole positions (use the bracket as a drill template). Insert an expansion screw into each hole.
- Assemble the base bracket and mounting bracket using the HM 5.0 x 65 screw and HM 5.0 x 12 screws.
- Attach the GWN7660ELR access point by securing the mounting bracket to the wall with the expansion screws.
Diagrams show the process of attaching the base bracket to the device, drilling holes in a wall, and mounting the device using brackets and screws.
Pole Mount Installation
- Refer to the waterproof kits installation steps.
- Connect the Ethernet (RJ45) or Fiber (SFP module) cable to the correct GWN7660ELR port and tighten the waterproof joints.
- Attach the Base Bracket to the back of the GWN7660ELR access point using HM 5.0 x 12 screws.
- Assemble the Base Bracket and Mounting Bracket using the HM 5.0 x 65 screw and HM 5.0 x 12 screws.
- Open the metal straps by turning the locking mechanism counter-clockwise. This can be done by hand or with a flathead screwdriver.
- Straighten the end of the metal straps and slide them through the back of the base bracket.
- Wrap the metal strap around the pole and use a flathead screwdriver to tighten the locking mechanism by turning it clockwise.
Diagrams illustrate attaching the base bracket, assembling brackets, and securing the device to a pole using metal straps.
Connecting to the Default Wi-Fi Network
The GWN7660ELR can be used as a standalone access point out of the box, or after a factory reset with Wi-Fi enabled by default. Upon powering up and connecting to the network, it broadcasts a default SSID based on its MAC address (GWN[last 6 digits of MAC]) and a random password. The default password information is printed on the sticker on the back of the unit.
Accessing the Configuration Interface
Connect a computer to the GWN7660ELR's SSID or the same network to access its configuration interface using one of the following methods:
Method 1: Discover GWN7660ELR using its MAC Address
- Locate the MAC address on the unit's MAC tag, found on the underside of the device or on the package.
- From a computer on the same network, type the following address into your browser using the GWN7660ELR's MAC address:
https://gwn_<mac>.local
. For example, if the MAC address is C0:74:AD:8C:4D:F8, usehttps://gwn_c074ad8c4df8.local
.
Method 2: Discover GWN7660ELR using GWN Discovery Tool
- Download and install the GWN Discovery Tool from:
https://www.grandstream.com/tools/GWNDiscoveryTool.zip
- Open the GWN Discovery Tool and click Scan.
- The tool will discover all connected GWN76xx Access Points, showing their MAC and IP addresses.
After discovery, click 'Manage Device' to be redirected to the configuration interface, or manually enter the displayed IP address in your browser. Log in using the default administrator username 'admin' and the default random password found on the unit's MAC tag.
Notes:
- Ensure the GWN7660ELR is not already paired with another GWN76xx Access Point, GWN Router Series, GWN.Cloud, or GWN Manager.
- If already paired, unpair it first or perform a factory reset.
- It is the customer's responsibility to ensure compliance with local regulations for frequency bands, transmit power, and other parameters.
