Safety Notes
Please observe the following safety instructions to prevent malfunctions, damage, and personal injury:
- Dispose of packaging material safely, out of reach of children.
- Ensure your local mains voltage matches the product's rating.
- Use the tool only as described in this manual for cutting sheet metal within the specified thickness limits. It is not intended for continuous industrial use.
- Always ensure the ON/OFF switch is OFF before connecting to power. Adjustments and maintenance must only be performed with the power unplugged.
- Keep the tool out of reach of children and unsupervised persons.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE): protective goggles ?, ear protection ?, and safety gloves ?.
- Do not use near flammable liquids, gases, or dust, as sparks can cause ignition.
- Always switch off and unplug the tool before making adjustments, when not in use, after finishing work, and before maintenance.
- Never carry the tool by its cable.
- Immediately switch off and discontinue use if:
- Brushes spark excessively or a ring fire occurs in the collector.
- Lubricating oil leaks from ventilation gaps.
- There are issues with the plug, power cable, cable sleeve, or switch.
- Smoke or strong odor of insulating material is present.
- A blade is loose, damaged, or has lateral play.
- The motor runs irregularly or is blocked.
- The tool is designed for operation up to 2000 meters above sea level.
- Do not disassemble or attempt self-repair. Contact customer service for assistance and use only original replacement parts.
Operation
Setting Up the Blades
Adjust the blade space using the fastening screw (D) and the feeler gauge (1). The adjustable range is 0.1 to 0.45 mm.
- For small radii cuts, set the blade space to 0.35 mm.
- For thicker materials, set the blade space to 0.3 mm.
- For thinner materials, set the space as follows: Space = 0.2 x material thickness.
This guideline is based on materials with a shear strength of 390 N/mm². Adjust values for softer/tougher or harder/fragile materials accordingly.
Blade Space vs. Shear Strength:
Shear Strength | Max. Thickness |
---|---|
390 N/mm² | 2.5 mm |
600 N/mm² | 2.0 mm |
800 N/mm² | 1.5 mm |
Using the Electric Plate Shear
Hold the tool firmly with both hands, one on the grooved gripping area (G) and the other on the motor housing (H). Never grip the cutting head or protective plate.
- To switch ON, push the ON/OFF switch (B) until it locks. To switch OFF, press the switch lightly and allow it to return to its starting position.
- Let the tool reach full speed before engaging the workpiece. Apply the blade tip to the fixed workpiece and guide the tool along the cutting line smoothly without excessive pressure.
- Ensure the workpiece remains below the protective plate to prevent excessive folding, material jamming, poor cuts, and injuries.
- When cutting bends, rotate counterclockwise.
- If you need to stop mid-cut, switch off the tool and wait for the blades to stall before removing it from the workpiece to avoid material damage.
Replacing the Blades
Replace damaged or worn blades with identical spare parts.
- Unscrew the rear fastening screws using an appropriate Allen key. Replace the blade and adjust as described in "Setting Up the Blades".
- Tighten the blades so their cutting edges are parallel and do not touch each other.
Replacing the Carbon Brushes
If the machine operates weakly or sparks excessively at the brushes, the carbon brushes may need replacement. Have them replaced by a professional or return the unit to Westfalia customer support. Do not open the housing or attempt self-repair. Always replace both carbon brushes simultaneously.
Maintenance and Care
- Always unplug the tool before performing any maintenance.
- Clean the tool with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive or aggressive cleaning agents. Keep the handle dry and free from oil or grease.
- Ensure ventilation slots remain clean and unobstructed. Prevent liquids from entering the tool. Check that all screws and parts are securely tightened. Regularly inspect the blades for defects or deformation.
- Store the tool in a dry place between 10°C and 30°C, out of reach of children and unsupervised persons.
