Our fabrics have been tested
IKEA tests fabric covers on sofas and armchairs to ensure durability. Fabric abrasion resistance is tested by rubbing it against another fabric under firm pressure. A fabric that withstands 15,000 cycles is suitable for everyday home use, while over 30,000 cycles indicates very high abrasion resistance. Fabrics are also checked for resistance to fading from sunlight.
Durable in different ways
While rigorous tests assess fabric durability, other factors also contribute: materials, construction, and usage. Heavy, tightly woven fabrics with a flat surface offer the best abrasion resistance. Fabrics blending natural and synthetic fibers are generally more durable than those made solely from natural fibers. Yarn-dyed fabrics are more durable than printed patterns. A clean cover also wears better than a dirty one, and usage patterns influence longevity.
The "Lejde" fabric is a toned, textured material made from cotton and polyester, dyed in various tones for a pleasing effect. It offers 30,000 cycles of resistance to abrasion and a light fastness rating of 5 (on a scale of 1-8).
A wiser use of resources

- Polyester: Products made from recycled polyester, derived from PET bottles and other polyester items, offer a new life for materials. This recycled polyester provides the same quality and function as virgin polyester, ensuring it is clean and safe, while reducing the need for new materials.
- Cotton: All cotton used in IKEA products is sourced from more sustainable origins. This includes recycled cotton or cotton produced using methods that minimize environmental impact and improve living conditions for farmers.
