UNDOK App User Guide

Control Your Hama Audio System

1. Introduction

The UNDOK app provides control over numerous Internet, streaming, and digital radios from Hama, placing comprehensive audio management directly in your hands. Products featuring the UNDOK logo allow operation of almost all functions via a tablet or smartphone for maximum convenience.

UNDOK is available for Android and iOS devices, downloadable for free from respective app stores, and is continuously enhanced. It supports Hama products and many others from different brands, enabling the creation of a personalized audio infrastructure.

Please note that specific functions may vary depending on your product's capabilities.

Requirements:

Note: Using Internet radio or streaming services without a data flat rate may incur additional costs and consume your data allowance.

2. First-time setup of the device with UNDOK

When an UNDOK-enabled Hama product is first switched on or reset to factory settings, it creates a micro access point – a separate Wi-Fi network for connecting your tablet or smartphone. This access point is named 'Setup Hama PRODUCT NAME MAC address' for easy identification.

Layout of the home screen:

The home screen typically displays:

  1. Group name / Device name
  2. Current playback source
  3. Devices in a group
  4. Setup new device (number of found devices in setup mode)
  5. Settings menu
  6. Refresh view
  7. Group management / Group setup
  8. Check for firmware update

2.1 Set up audio system

2.1.1 Start setup

Open the UNDOK app and tap the ‘SET UP AUDIO SYSTEM’ button, or select ‘1 AUDIO SYSTEM TO BE SET UP’ on the start page. Follow the on-screen instructions and confirm with ‘NEXT’.

Note: Devices already set up may not create a micro access point and might require a factory reset or specific button combination for app setup. Consult your product manual for details.

Most settings, excluding network configuration, can be adjusted during or after the initial setup.

2.1.2 Connect to MicroAP

You will be prompted to select an access point from available Wi-Fi connections. On Android, press ‘WLAN Einstellungen öffnen’. On iOS, navigate to your device’s Wi-Fi settings and select the access point named ‘Setup Hama Device MAC address name’. Return to the UNDOK app; the selected access point should appear. Confirm with the ‘NEXT’ button.

Note on OS differences:

2.1.3 Specify device name

Assign a new name to your audio system, such as ‘Kitchen radio’, to replace the existing device name. Confirm your entry with ‘NEXT’. This name can be changed later via 3.1.1 Audio systems.

2.1.4 Set date and time

Configure date and time settings, including the hour format (12/24 hours), time source, time zone, and optional ‘Summer time’ mode. These settings can be adjusted later via 3.1.1 Audio systems.

2.1.5 Select language

This setting determines the language for the device interface (radio/speaker). Source names and functions will appear in the chosen language. The UNDOK app’s display language is dictated by your smartphone/tablet’s system language.

Note: UNDOK may not be available in all languages. If a translated version is unavailable for your smartphone/tablet’s language, English will be set automatically. You can also enable automatic language detection based on your smartphone/tablet’s settings.

2.1.6 Establish network connection via Wi-Fi

Note: Establishing unsecured connections is not recommended; always protect your network against unauthorized access.

2.1.7 Establish network connection via LAN (wired connection)

Connect the device to your router using a LAN cable and select the ‘Ethernet’ button in UNDOK.

2.2 Using/managing audio systems

The UNDOK app offers full control over your audio devices, allowing you to manage core functions. After setup, all network-available audio devices are listed, showing their current playback source.

Note: The current playback source may not be displayed for devices active within a multi-room group. Ensure devices are on the same network and powered on. Router or firewall security settings might affect operation or limit individual functions; consult your network administrator if necessary.

Access a device’s playback screen by clicking its name or icon. This screen displays current playback information.

The playback screen is divided into three parts:

2.2.1 Internet radio

Select ‘Internet radio’ to choose from over 20,000 radio stations and podcasts worldwide. Press ‘Durchsuchen’ at the upper-right edge of the playback screen to search for a station.

2.2.2 DAB radio

When activating DAB mode, press ‘Durchsuchen’. The device performs an automatic station search and lists available stations. This scan can be rerun using the [refresh] icon to update the station list.

2.2.3 Bluetooth®

In Bluetooth mode, the device automatically enters connection mode. Previously connected devices within range will reconnect automatically. To connect a new device, go to your smartphone/tablet’s Bluetooth settings and search for the Hama device (e.g., Hama DIR3600MBT). Ensure the device is not already connected to another source. After deactivation, the device returns to connection mode.

Once connected, you can start audio playback from your smartphone/tablet/PC, which will play on the Hama device.

Note: If no audio playback occurs, check the Bluetooth settings of your smartphone/tablet/PC and consult their respective manuals.

2.2.4 Local Music (on a tablet/smartphone)

Access music and audio files stored locally on your smartphone or tablet. The UNDOK app searches for compatible audio files when you tap ‘Browse’. Offline music from third-party providers (e.g., Amazon Music, Apple Music) is not supported. You can search for specific audio files by entering keywords. Filters (Artist, Album, Song name, Genre, Playlists) can be used to refine search results.

Note: Only data media formatted with FAT/FAT32 file systems can be used.

Playback controls include shuffle play of tracks in a playlist or album, and automatic repeat of tracks.

2.2.5 Music player (UPnP, USB)

Access media files available via a home server or network share (UPnP) or connected USB data media. For UPnP, select ‘Music player’, then ‘Durchsuchen’, and choose ‘Shared media’. For USB playback, select ‘USB playback’ after tapping ‘Browse’ to list all available audio files on the data medium.

2.2.6 FM

Set FM stations via UNDOK by manually tuning frequencies (0.05 MHz increments) or using the automatic station search function.

2.2.7 CD

Control CD playback (pause, previous/next track) via UNDOK. CD ejection must be performed directly on the device. Supported audio formats are generally WAV (classical audio CD) and MP3.

2.2.8 Spotify Connect

Access millions of songs via Spotify. Requires the Spotify app and a Spotify Premium account. Connect your Hama device to your Spotify account to select stored playlists and tracks without needing your smartphone/tablet. The ‘Devices Available’ field shows compatible devices. Playback information appears in the UNDOK app’s ‘NOW PLAYING’ screen. Additional functions include shuffle play and automatic repeat. Stored playlists, tracks, and albums can be managed via favourites.

2.2.9 Amazon Music

Access millions of songs via Amazon Music. Requires an Amazon Music Unlimited account. Connect your Hama device to your Amazon Music Unlimited account using the UNDOK app. Search within Amazon Music by keyword (artist, album, song title), browse preconfigured playlists, select radio stations by genre, or view recommendations. ‘My music’ allows creation of custom playlists. Note that Amazon Music services may incur additional costs.

Note: Delays may occur with Amazon Music due to database size; using the UNDOK app for searching is recommended for greater clarity and simplified use.

2.2.10 Line IN

Connect mobile devices (smartphone, tablet, MP3 player) using a 3.5 mm audio cable to the AUX IN socket. Play audio files through the radio. Control playback using the connected terminal device.

Volume control: A slider at the bottom of the UNDOK app controls the active device’s volume. A mute switch icon is also present. Instructions for multi-room volume control are found in section 5.4.

3. Device settings

Tap the [settings] icon at the upper-right edge of the screen to open device settings. A dropdown menu provides sub-settings for the selected device.

3.1 Settings

3.1.1 Audio systems

View an overview of all audio systems in the network. Select a device to change its settings. The following page displays the current configuration, including:

The following settings can be adjusted:

Note: A factory reset will delete all stored favourites and settings.

3.1.2 Logging enabled (Yes/No)

Logging facilitates understanding of problems or errors. It is generally not enabled but can be activated by tapping ‘YES’ for troubleshooting purposes, especially when reporting issues to support.

Note: Customer support will provide necessary information for transmitting logs.

3.2 Themes

Change the UNDOK app’s appearance by selecting from available colour themes.

3.3 Standby

This function switches the device to standby mode. Pressing the [standby] icon toggles standby mode. Devices in standby can be reactivated via UNDOK (or by pressing ‘AUFWECKEN’).

Note: Networked standby mode behaviour may differ for devices with or without displays. If disabled, devices may have a timeout before becoming inaccessible via UNDOK. Devices without displays typically use networked standby mode for reactivation.

3.4 Set up new audio system / another audio system

Refer to section 2.1 for setup instructions.

3.5 About

Provides information on the current UNDOK version and its developer, Frontier Silicon Ltd.

4. Managing favourites

Create and manage favourite lists for radio signals (Internet radio, DAB/DAB+, FM) and Spotify Connect content (playlists, albums, tracks). Up to 30 presets are available per reception mode for radio, and up to ten for Spotify Connect.

Note: Stored favourites can be accessed via device shortcut buttons, the remote control (1-10), or the display interface.

4.1 Open favourites list

To open a favourites list, click the source selection, then the desired reception mode, and finally ‘NOW PLAYING’. Clicking the [favourites] icon opens the list for the current reception mode.

4.2 Select/add favourites

The favourites list displays stored stations or content based on reception mode. Press a favourite to select it. To create a new favourite, open the desired content in ‘BROWSE’ or Spotify Connect, open the favourites list, and press the [add] icon. The preset will be overwritten with the current playback.

5. Multi-room

Combine UNDOK-compatible devices into groups for synchronous audio playback, even across multiple rooms. This is advantageous for equipping large spaces with multiple devices for seamless audio. Only one device in a group needs a signal source, which is then distributed to all other devices in the group without audible lag.

Note: A group can contain a maximum of five devices for optimal playback synchrony. The number of groups is unlimited. The AUX signal input cannot be used for a multi-room source due to potential synchrony issues.

5.1 Set up / create group

Devices compatible with UNDOK Multi-room are marked with [multi-room] on the UNDOK overview page. Click this icon to create a new group and add devices. A window displays compatible devices in the network; tap to add them. Enter a group name and confirm with ‘OK’.

5.2 Manage group (add or remove devices / delete group)

Click the group setup icon to add or remove devices to/from a group. Confirm changes with ‘OK’. If a device is added to a new group, it is removed from its existing group.

Note: For display devices, station/source information is shown only on the master device; slave devices display only system stability information.

5.3 Select sources

Source selection for multi-room groups is similar to individual devices, but only one device requires the signal receiver. You can select the source and specify the group’s ‘master’. Additional information on source selection can be found under 2.1 Set up audio system.

5.4 Volume control (individual device / group)

Adjust volume for the entire group or individual devices. Use the volume slider at the bottom of the app. To adjust individual device volume, press the [volume] icon to open a window with sliders for each device in the group. The equalizer for a device can be accessed via the [equalizer] icon.

6. Firmware update

System updates are provided to extend device functions or resolve issues. Installing firmware updates when available is strongly recommended.

The firmware update icon [update] is located in the device overview screen after starting UNDOK. The app automatically checks for updates and notifies you. Tapping the icon opens an overview of devices and their firmware versions. Available updates are marked as ‘Empfohlenes Update’ (Recommended Update) in green. Tapping ‘UPDATE ALL’ starts the update process for all visible devices with available updates. The [refresh] icon allows re-checking for updates.

Once initiated, the firmware downloads and installs automatically. The updated device reconnects to the network and can be used via UNDOK as usual.

Note: The update process duration depends on your internet connection bandwidth.

Warning: Do not disconnect the device from the power supply during the update, as this could lead to system failure. If a problem occurs during the firmware update, contact manufacturer support.
