9. Digital Radio (DAB/DAB+)

The radio receives all common digital radio frequencies in the range of 174 MHz to 240 MHz (Band III, channels 5A to 13 F). Activate the DAB (DAB Radio) operating mode on the radio via the main menu or by repeatedly pressing [M].

9.1 Scan/Automatic Scan

The automatic DAB station scan searches the DAB Band III for available stations. After the scan, all stations that can be received without interference are saved in alphabetical order. Stations that were found in a previous scan but are currently not receivable are displayed in the station list with a ? before the station name. The automatic DAB station scan starts automatically on the first start in DAB mode, indicated in the display by "Scan..." and a progress bar.

If you want to restart the scan, proceed as follows:

9.2 Station List

You can access the station list in DAB mode at any time. To do this, proceed as follows:

Note: The station list includes all stations found during the last station scan. A new station scan can be started as described in 9.1 Scan/Automatic Scan. The reception quality of a station depends on factors such as weather, installation location, and antenna orientation. If a station listed in the station list is not accessible, try changing the antenna orientation or the radio's installation location. Stations that are no longer receivable can be removed from the station list as described in 9.3 Clean Station List.

9.3 Clean Station List

To remove stations that are currently not within the reception area from your station list, proceed as follows:

All currently unreceivable stations will be removed from the station list if you confirm the prompt with YES.

Note: To keep the station list up-to-date, we recommend regularly updating the list by performing a full station scan (see 9.1 Scan/Automatic Scan).

9.4 Favorites

You can save your favorite stations to 30 favorite memory slots for quick access.

9.4.1 Assigning Favorites to Shortcut Buttons

Note: Favorites cannot be deleted. If all 30 favorite memory slots are occupied and you want to save another station as a favorite, select an already occupied favorite memory slot. It will be overwritten with the new station.

9.4.2 Accessing Favorites via Shortcut Buttons

To access a saved station, press the corresponding shortcut button (2-5).

9.4.3 Assigning Favorites to Memory Slots (1-30)

9.4.4 Accessing Stations from the Favorites List (1-30)

9.5 DRC (Dynamic Range Control)

Some radio stations in the DAB network support volume control that actively intervenes during playback. If the volume suddenly increases, DRC automatically reduces it. If the volume suddenly decreases, DRC automatically increases it. The same happens if playback suddenly becomes quieter. The radio will then amplify the volume again.

To make the setting, proceed as follows:

9.6 Station Order

By default, the radio sorts stations in alphabetical order. You can also sort by signal strength or ensemble. To change the sort order, proceed as follows:

10. FM

Activate the FM (FM Radio) operating mode on the radio via the main menu or by repeatedly pressing [M]. Stations that transmit additional information about the stations and the program are marked in the display with an RDS symbol (Radio Data System). Pressing (4) displays this additional information.

10.1 Scan Setting

Using the scan setting, you can determine whether stations with weak signal strength are ignored during the automatic scan. Proceed as follows:

Note: The "Strong stations only" method is selected by default.

10.2 Scan/Automatic Scan

10.3 Manual Station Search

With manual station settings, you have the option to set the desired frequency yourself and also to receive stations whose broadcast signal was too weak during the automatic station search and was therefore not considered.

10.4 Favorites

You can save your favorite stations to 30 favorite memory slots for quick access.

10.4.1 Assigning Favorites to Shortcut Buttons

Note: Favorites cannot be deleted. If all 30 favorite memory slots are occupied and you want to save another station as a favorite, select an already occupied favorite memory slot. It will be overwritten with the new station.

10.4.2 Accessing Favorites via Shortcut Buttons

To access a saved station, press the corresponding shortcut button (2-5).

10.4.3 Assigning Favorites to Memory Slots (1-30)

10.4.4 Accessing Stations from the Favorites List (1-30)

10.5 Audio Setting

For some stations, quality can be slightly improved by playing them in mono if the reception is weak. You can activate this function in the menu, and the radio will automatically switch to mono reception if the signal quality is poor. To change this option, proceed as follows:

11. Sleep

The radio has a timer function that switches the device to standby mode after a set time, regardless of the operating mode.

12. Alarm Clock

The radio has two individually adjustable alarm times.

12.1 Settings

You can access the alarm clock settings as follows:

Alarm 1 and Alarm 2 are configured identically and allow the storage of two separate alarm times. Select Alarm 1 or 2 and confirm your selection by pressing [NAVIGATE/ENTER/VOLUME]. Set the following details using [NAVIGATE/ENTER/VOLUME].

Mode:

Select when the alarm should be activated: Off - Daily - Once - Weekdays - Weekend

Time:

First select the hours and then the minutes for the alarm time.

Mode:

Set whether you want to be woken by a buzzer, DAB, FM, or Internet radio.

Program:

If you select Internet Radio/DAB/FM, specify which station you want to be woken up by. You can choose from the 30 favorite memory slots or "Recently listened".

Volume:

Select the volume at which you want to be woken up. This setting ensures that the volume is set correctly regardless of the last used volume level.

Save:

Select Off/On to finish the alarm settings.

Note: It is recommended to allow automatic time updates. This ensures that the time is updated correctly even after a power interruption, e.g., during a power outage.

12.2 Activating / Deactivating the Alarm Clock

12.3 Stopping the Alarm / Snooze

13. System Settings

In the system settings, you can make all settings and retrieve important information about the radio.

13.1 Internet Settings

13.1.1 Network Assistant - Configuration of Internet Connection/Scan

The network assistant helps you connect the radio to the Internet. Further configuration methods and detailed information are explained below.

13.1.2 Wireless Connection (WLAN)

Depending on the network, you have various options to establish the connection to the network. Networks that support WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) are marked in the list with the prefix "[WPS ...]". Other connections are open networks or connections protected by the PSK method = Pre-Shared Key.

WPS/PSK/Open Connection

A WPS connection allows a simple yet secure connection of the radio to the network. There are two options available: connection setup via PBC = Push-Button Configuration or via the PIN method, where you are prompted by your router's web interface to enter a randomly generated sequence of numbers.

PBC Setup
PIN Setup

Skip WPS / Pre-Shared Key (PSK) Configuration

Note: The Pre-Shared Key is often located on the back of the router/AP. Pay attention to the case sensitivity when entering the key.

Open Network/Unsecured Network

Note: We recommend that you do not create an unsecured connection and always secure your network against unauthorized access. If the desired network does not have any security measures, simply select the network from the list and confirm. The radio will then immediately connect to the access point.

13.1.3 Manual Network Connection Configuration - Wireless (WLAN)

Manual Wireless (WLAN) Configuration - DHCP Active
Manual Wireless (WLAN) Configuration - DHCP Inactive

This method is similar to the configuration with an active DHCP server (Manual Wireless (WLAN) Configuration - DHCP Active), but you must also enter the network information, such as IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway Address, and DNS (Primary and Secondary). You can find this information in your router/AP's web interface, or you will receive this information correctly entered. Confirm the input. The radio will then attempt to establish the connection.

13.1.4 Display Settings

Here you will find the most important information about all network connections currently used or configured by the radio, e.g.: MAC address, Wi-Fi region, DHCP active/inactive, SSID, IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway Address, DNS (primary/secondary), etc.

13.1.5 Remove Network Profiles

The radio automatically saves all previously successful network connections (profiles). This allows the radio to connect to one of these network connections on subsequent connection attempts, e.g., after being disconnected from the power supply, without you having to re-enter the access data.

To remove individual network profiles, proceed as follows:

Note: Before selling the radio to another person (selling, gifting, etc.), we recommend resetting it to factory settings. This will completely delete all saved network data and connections.

13.2 Time/Date Settings

You can access the time settings as follows:

Automatic Update

Update from Internet

If this option is selected, the time and date will be automatically set via the Internet connection. Additionally, select the time zone of your location (Set Time Zone) and - if desired (Daylight Saving Time -> ON) - the adjustment for daylight saving time.

Update from DAB/FM

With automatic updates via the radio network FM/DAB/DAB+, time and date are provided by the broadcasters and processed by the device. With synchronization via this source, you have the highest certainty that the time will be correctly synchronized even after a power failure and saved alarm times will be adhered to.

No Update

Time and date must be set manually (DD-MM-YYYY) as no automatic synchronization occurs.

Time/Date Settings

Manually set the date (DD-MM-YYYY) and time (hh:mm) using [NAVIGATE/ENTER/VOLUME].

Format

Choose between 12-hour and 24-hour format.

13.3 Language

Upon first use, the default language of the radio is English. To change the set menu language of the radio, proceed as follows:

Note: The following languages are available: English, German, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Slovak, and Czech.

13.4 Factory Reset

To reset the radio to factory settings (delivery state), proceed as follows:

Note: Problems and malfunctions can possibly be resolved by resetting to factory settings.

13.5 Software Update

Improvements and new features for our radios' software are constantly being developed to fix bugs, expand functionality, etc. We recommend that you always install the available updates on your radio.

Proceed as follows:

Warning:

13.6 Info

To check the current software version, Radio ID, and device name of your radio, proceed as follows:

Note: If you need assistance from customer support, please provide the employee with the current software version. Often, problems are resolved through software updates, and your request can be resolved by comparing your software version with the latest available software version. If updates are available, you can find them at www.hama.com with the corresponding article number or radio model. You may find an update guide in the download section of the article.

13.7 Lighting
