Document Date: March 2023

General Features

Communicating Mode: Furnaces are shipped ready for connection in communicating mode, requiring a LINK360A2VVUA Link Smart Thermostat and System Controller (sold separately). This technology enables advanced diagnostics, performance updates, and optional remote monitoring.

Alternate 24V Mode: The furnace is field configurable to operate in a 24V non-communicating mode.

Natural Gas Models: Certified by Intertek for natural and L.P. gas, with limit settings and rating data approved under ANSI standards.

Safe Operation: Features an Integrated System Control that monitors for flame presence and includes a dual solenoid combination gas valve and regulator for safety.

Quick Heating: Utilizes a durable, cycle-tested, heavy gauge tubular aluminized steel heat exchanger for efficient heat transfer. A low-energy power vent blower enhances efficiency and directs gas fumes outside.

Burners: Equipped with multiport, Inshot burners for quiet and efficient service. Models can be converted to L.P. gas with an optional kit.

Integrated System Control: An exclusive operational program manages furnace limit sensors, blowers, gas valve, and flame control, with built-in self-diagnostics for service ease.

Energy Efficient Operation: Features an Air-Tite™ cabinet design certified to <1% air leakage per ASHRAE 193.

Air Delivery: A highly efficient, variable speed blower motor provides consistent airflow and adjusts speeds for heating or cooling based on thermostat demand.

Styling: Constructed with heavy gauge steel and a "wrap-around" cabinet with baked-on enamel finish. All orientations offer at least two venting options.

Features and General Operation: Utilizes a Silicon Nitride Hot Surface Ignition system, eliminating the need for a constant burning pilot. The integrated system control ignites main burners upon a heat demand from the thermostat. Offers complete front service access, a low energy power venter, and vent proving pressure switches.

Features and Benefits

Link Communication or 24 Volt Control: Seamless system component connection for performance monitoring and diagnostics via Mobile App. Field configurable to 24V non-communicating mode.

80% AFUE: Lowers utility bills.

Electrically Efficient: Efficient airflow design reduces electrical energy consumption.

34 Inch Tall: Lighter, easier to maneuver and fit into tight spaces. Compatible with larger, high-efficiency coils.

4-Way Multi-Poise: Available in 12 SKUs supporting Upflow, Downflow, Horizontal Left, and Horizontal Right configurations, offering application flexibility and reducing specification errors.

Airflow: Delivers at least 400 CFM/ton at 0.5 in. H2O external static pressure.

Regulatory: All models are air tight with ≤1% air leakage per ASHRAE 193. Features an open vestibule design for installation and service ease.

Dimensions: Industry-standard widths (14.5", 17.5", 21", 24.5") with a depth of approximately 28". Cabinet is compatible with industry-standard coils and accessories.

Integrated Furnace Control: Features include setup/status/diagnostics via digital display, no dip switches, storage of last six errors, dry contact EAC and HUM connections, all Molex connections, low voltage labeling, and a rain shield over the IFC.

Tubular Aluminized Steel Heat Exchanger: Durable and efficient.

Vortica II Blower: Designed exclusively for the S-Series furnace, offering improved airflow efficiency, durability, and ease of cleaning. Features a single-piece belly band/motor arm assembly and blower deck with full-length rails for easy removal/replacement.

Four-Way Multi-Poise: Simplifies specification and ships ready for installation with at least two venting options per model.

Wiring Diagrams

This section provides wiring diagrams and related information for the Trane S8V2 furnaces. It includes color codes for wires (e.g., BK for Black, BL for Blue, RD for Red), status codes, error codes, and terminal descriptions for the Integrated Furnace Control (IFC). Key components like the blower motor, gas valve, igniter, pressure transducers, and various sensors are illustrated in their connection points.

Key Information from Wiring Diagrams Section:

  • Wire Color Codes: Standard color codes are provided for easy identification.
  • Status and Error Codes: A comprehensive list of status codes (e.g., COM, HOd, IdL, rUn) and error codes (e.g., E01, E2.1, E3.1) is presented, along with their meanings and potential causes.
  • Integrated Furnace Control (IFC): Details the electrical ratings, input/output specifications, fuse information, and timing sequences for the IFC.
  • Component Connections: Illustrates connections for the blower motor, gas valve, igniter, flame probe, pressure switches, limit switches, thermostat, and accessories.
  • Model Number Identification: Lists model numbers corresponding to specific configurations.
  • Wiring Notes: Important notes regarding wire temperature ratings (105°C and 250°C for specific wires), heat pump wiring requirements, thermostat connections, and airflow adjustments are provided.
  • Flame Sense Test Pads: Information on flame current measurement and acceptable ranges is included.
  • Communication Mode Operation: Notes that in communicating mode, the diagnostic app must be used, and menu/option buttons are disabled.

Electrical Connections

General Wiring: All wiring connections should be made as indicated on the enclosed wiring diagram. The furnace must be connected to a permanently live electric circuit and electrically grounded according to local codes or the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70). The integrated furnace control is polarity sensitive; the hot leg of the 120V supply must connect to the black power lead.

24V Field Wiring: A field wiring diagram illustrates connections for a two-stage heating thermostat, or a one/two-stage AC or heat pump system. It details connections for the thermostat terminals (W2, W1, R, G, B, Y2, Y1, O) to the furnace's IFC, including notes for heat pump systems and thermostat compatibility.

Low Voltage Maximum Wire Length:

  • Communicating Control Wire: 18 AWG wire supports a maximum combined length of 500 FT.
  • 24 Volt Control Wire: 18 AWG wire supports a maximum combined length of 100 FT.

Link Communicating Low Voltage Wire Connectors: These simple, color-coded connectors (Red, White, Green, Blue) facilitate easy installation for low voltage connections in communicating systems. Instructions are provided for stripping wires and inserting them into the correct terminals. Connectors are single-use.

CAN Connector: The CAN connector plugs into the low voltage harness at the outdoor unit. The IFC has three dedicated CAN connectors for the communicating loop, allowing connection of the thermostat, system controller, or outdoor unit.

External Switches and Accessories: Humidifiers or electronic air cleaners can be connected using ACC1 (air cleaner) and ACC2 (humidifier). Accessory 1 and 2 are dry contacts requiring source voltage from the accessory. External switches 1 and 2 have 24VAC source voltage and connect to Normally Closed (NC) contacts (e.g., smoke detector). Configuration for these accessories can be done via the UX360 User Interface or Diagnostics Mobile app in both Link Communicating and 24V modes. The Condensate Cooling option should not be used in 24V mode.

Outline Drawing

The outline drawing provides dimensional information and port locations for the Trane S8V2 furnaces. It details dimensions for different cabinet sizes (A, B, C, D) and indicates locations for gas supply, electrical wires, thermostat wires, flue outlets, and side return air inlets. Specific dimensions like cabinet width, depth, and height are provided, along with flue knockout details.

Cabinet Size Dimensions (Approximate):

  • "A" SIZE: 14-9/16" W x 5-1/8" D x 13-3/16" H
  • "B" SIZE: 17-9/16" W x 5-7/8" D x 16-3/16" H
  • "C" SIZE: 21-1/16" W x 9-1/4" D x 19-11/16" H
  • "D" SIZE: 24-9/16" W x 12-3/4" D x 23-3/16" H

The drawing also shows various flue outlet configurations (downflow, horizontal right, horizontal left) and notes that door design may vary.
