Overview of the Krups Sensation Machine
The Krups Sensation coffee machine features several key components:
- Grinding Fineness Adjustment Button: Allows adjustment of the coffee bean grind size.
- Water Tank with Handle: Located at the top rear of the machine for easy refilling.
- Coffee Grounds Collector: A removable drawer at the front to collect used coffee grounds.
- Grid and Removable Drip Tray: Collects drips and is removable for cleaning.
- Cleaning Tablet Hatch: A compartment for inserting cleaning tablets.
- Steam Outlet: Where steam is dispensed for frothing milk.
- Assembled Steam Nozzle: The component attached to the steam outlet for frothing.
- Coffee Nozzle: Dispenses the brewed coffee into your cup.
- Water Level Floats: Internal indicators that monitor the water level in the tank.
Interface and Controls
The machine's control panel allows for intuitive operation:
- ON/OFF Button: Powers the machine on and off.
- Beverage Selection Buttons: Icons for Ristretto, Espresso, Lungo Coffee, Filter Coffee, Hot Water, and Steam.
- Intensity Adjustment: Button to modify the coffee's strength.
- Two Cups Button: Enables brewing two cups simultaneously.
- Maintenance Access Button: Used for accessing maintenance functions like cleaning and descaling.
- Start/Stop Button: Initiates or halts brewing and other processes.
- Clean Mode Button: Selects specific cleaning or descaling programs.
- Volume Adjustment: Controls the amount of liquid dispensed for beverages.
- Favorites Button: Allows users to save and recall personalized beverage settings (labeled 'A' and 'B').
- Indicator Lights: Provide status updates, such as when the machine needs cleaning (red CLEAN light) or descaling (flashing CALC light).
Initialization Process (Approx. 5 Minutes)
Follow these steps to set up your machine for the first time:
- Plug In: Connect the machine to a power outlet.
- Power On: Press the ON/OFF button. The machine will power on.
- Fill Water Tank: Open the water tank and fill it with fresh water up to the MAX mark.
- Prepare Container: Place a 1-litre container under both the coffee and steam outlets to collect water during the initial rinse.
- Start Auto-Rinse: The machine will automatically perform a rinse cycle. Press the Start/Stop button to begin this process.
- Rinsing Cycle: Water will flow through the coffee and steam outlets multiple times for approximately 4 minutes. Be aware that the steam nozzle may be hot.
- Ready Signal: Once the water flow stops, a triple beep will sound, indicating that the machine has completed its initialization and is ready for use.
Beverage Settings
Customize your coffee experience by adjusting various settings:
- Adjust Intensity: Modify the strength of your coffee.
- Make Two Cups: Brew two servings at once.
- Maintenance Access: Access cleaning and maintenance functions.
- Rinse Machine: Initiate a rinsing cycle.
- Clean Machine: Start the machine cleaning program.
- Descale Machine: Begin the descaling process.
- Adjust Volume: Control the amount of coffee dispensed.
- Start/Save 2 Favorites: Save your preferred beverage settings or start a saved favorite.
- Refill Water Tank: Prompt to refill the water tank when low.
- Indicator Lights: Provide visual feedback on the machine's status (e.g., white/red indicator light).
Saving Your Favorite Settings
Personalize your coffee by saving your preferred settings:
- Initiate Save: Before or after preparing a personalized recipe, press and hold the "Favorites" button for 2 seconds. The 'A' and 'B' indicator lights will illuminate.
- Select Slot: The flashing light indicates the current save position. Press the "Favorites" button once to switch between 'A' and 'B' if you wish to change the save slot.
- Start Recording: Once the desired position (A or B) is selected, the machine will begin recording your settings after approximately 3 seconds. The indicator light will flash during recording.
Starting a Favorite Beverage
Brew your saved favorite coffee drinks:
- Select Favorite A: Press the 'A' button and then the 'Start/Stop' button. The machine will brew your saved beverage 'A' at the previously set intensity and volume (X1).
- Select Favorite B: Press the 'B' button and then the 'Start/Stop' button. The machine will brew your saved beverage 'B' at the previously set intensity and volume (X2).
Making a Milk Recipe
Prepare milk-based beverages with frothed milk:
- Fill Cup with Milk: Fill your cup with milk to approximately one-third (1/3) of its capacity.
- Select Steam: Press the "Steam" button, then press the "Start/Stop" button.
- Preheat: The machine will preheat until the "Start/Stop" light begins to flash.
- Position Nozzle: Insert the steam nozzle into the milk in your cup.
- Froth Milk: Press the "Start/Stop" button to release steam. Gradually move the nozzle to froth the milk, keeping it submerged in the milk rather than the foam.
- Stop Steam: Press the "Start/Stop" button again to stop the steam. It may take a few seconds for the steam to completely cease.
Cleaning the Steam Nozzle
Regular cleaning of the steam nozzle ensures optimal performance:
- Power Off: Turn off the machine.
- Remove Nozzle: Carefully detach the steam nozzle.
- Rinse Under Tap: Rinse the nozzle under running water.
- Clean with Cloth: Wipe the nozzle clean with a damp cloth.
- Reassemble: Reattach the steam nozzle to the machine.
Refilling the Water Tank
Ensure the water tank is adequately filled for operation:
- Check Level: Monitor the water level indicator.
- Remove Tank: Pull out the water tank.
- Fill Tank: Fill the tank with fresh water up to the MAX mark.
- Replace Tank: Reinsert the water tank securely into the machine. A confirmation sound or light (OK) will indicate it's correctly placed.
Cleaning the Water Tank
Maintain hygiene by regularly cleaning the water tank:
- Remove Tank: Detach the water tank from the machine.
- Empty Water: Empty any remaining water from the tank.
- Clean Tank: Wash the tank with mild soap and water, or use a soft sponge.
- Dry Tank: Ensure the tank is completely dry before reinserting.
- Replace Tank: Place the clean, dry water tank back into the machine.
Emptying the Coffee Ground Collector
Remove used coffee grounds regularly:
- Indicator Alert: The machine may indicate when the coffee ground collector is full.
- Remove Collector: Pull out the coffee grounds collector drawer.
- Empty Grounds: Dispose of the used coffee grounds.
- Clean Collector: Rinse the collector if necessary.
- Reinsert Collector: Slide the empty collector back into the machine. A confirmation light (OK) will appear.
Cleaning the Coffee Ground Collector
Perform a more thorough cleaning of the coffee grounds collector:
- Remove Collector: Slide out the coffee grounds collector.
- Empty Grounds: Discard the used coffee grounds.
- Wash Collector: Wash the collector under running water.
- Dry Collector: Ensure the collector is dry.
- Reinsert Collector: Slide the clean, dry collector back into the machine.
Emptying the Drip Tray
Regularly empty the drip tray to prevent overflow:
- Remove Tray: Slide out the drip tray.
- Empty Contents: Dispose of any collected liquid and grounds.
- Clean Tray: Wash the drip tray and its grid.
- Dry Components: Ensure all parts are dry.
- Reinsert Tray: Slide the clean, dry drip tray back into the machine.
Cleaning the Drip Tray
Maintain the drip tray by cleaning it thoroughly:
- Remove Tray and Grid: Detach both the drip tray and the grid.
- Wash Components: Wash both parts with water.
- Dry Components: Ensure all parts are completely dry.
- Reassemble and Reinsert: Place the grid back into the drip tray, then slide the assembled unit back into the machine.
Rinsing the Machine (Approx. 1 Min 30 Sec)
Perform a rinse cycle to clean the internal circuits:
- Access Rinse: Navigate to the 'RINSE' function on the interface.
- Start Rinse: Press the 'RINSE' button, then the 'Start/Stop' button.
- Rinse Cycle: The machine will perform a rinse cycle, indicated by lights and sounds.
- Water Dispensing: Water will be dispensed into the cup.
- Completion: The machine will signal completion, typically with a light and/or beep.
Cleaning the Machine (Approx. 13 Min)
Use a cleaning tablet for a deep clean of the machine:
- CLEAN Indicator: The 'CLEAN' indicator light turns red when cleaning is required.
- Select Clean Mode: Press the 'Clean Mode' button to select 'CLEAN'.
- Confirm Cleaning: Press the 'Start/Stop' button to begin the cleaning process. The 'CLEAN' light will flash.
- Prepare Cleaning Tablet: Take one Krups cleaning tablet (e.g., KRUPS XS3000).
- Open Hatch: Open the cleaning tablet hatch on the machine.
- Insert Tablet: Place the cleaning tablet into the designated compartment.
- Prepare Container: Place a 1-litre container under both nozzles.
- Start Cleaning: Press the 'Start/Stop' button again to start the cleaning cycle.
- Cleaning Process: Water will dispense through the nozzles.
- Completion: After the water stops flowing and three beeps are heard, the machine is clean and ready for use.
Descaling the Machine (Approx. 20 Min)
Regular descaling removes mineral buildup and maintains machine performance.
A. Preparation (Approx. 5 Min)
- CALC Indicator: The 'CALC' indicator light turns red when descaling is needed.
- Select CALC Mode: Press the 'Clean Mode' button and select 'CALC'.
- Confirm Descaling: Press the 'Start/Stop' button to confirm and start the descaling process. The 'CALC' light will flash.
- Fill with Hot Water: Fill the water tank with hot water up to the 'CALC' mark. If your machine uses a Claris filter, remove it first.
- Add Descaler: Open a sachet of Krups descaler and empty its contents into the water tank.
- Mix Solution: Stir the descaler solution in the water tank.
- Replace Tank: Put the water tank back onto the machine.
- Prepare Container: Place a 1.5-litre container under both nozzles to collect the descaling solution.
B. Descaling Process (Approx. 5 Min)
- Start Descaling: Press the "Start/Stop" button to begin the descaling cycle.
- Dispensing Solution: The descaling solution will run out of both nozzles.
- Cycle Completion: The 'CALC' light will flash when the flow stops, indicating the descaling cycle is complete.
C. Rinsing (Approx. 10 Min)
After descaling, a rinsing process is necessary:
- Remove Descaler: Remove any remaining descaler from the water tank.
- Clean Water Tank: Clean the water tank with a sponge and water.
- Dry Water Tank: Wipe and dry the water tank thoroughly.
- Fill with Water: Fill the water tank with fresh water up to the MAX mark.
- Replace Tank: Put the water tank back onto the machine.
- Start Rinsing: Press the "Start/Stop" button to begin the rinsing process.
- Rinsing Cycle: Water will run out of the coffee nozzles.
- Rinsing Complete: When the water stops flowing and three beeps are heard, the machine is descaled and ready for use.
