HEATERS WITH SERIAL NO. CODE M8, U8, OR U9
NOTE: All serial number codes apply to original equipment only.
- These instructions are for replacing an obsolete propane valve (PNs 96311, 157167, and 157168, serial number codes M8, U8, and U9 respectively). Refer to the replacement parts manual at www.reznorhvac.com for serial number information.
- Refer to the installation manual provided with the heater for important safety information.
- Ensure that all components listed in Table 1 are available before beginning installation.
Table 1. Propane Valve Replacement Kit (PN 221634) Components
Component | Description | PN (Quantity) |
---|---|---|
Gas valve | Propane, 3/4 × 3/4 (#36H32-442) | 221526 (1) |
Bushing | Hex, 1/2 × 3/4 | 37385 (1) |
Compression nut | 1/8, male | 97572 (1) |
Label | Elevation/modulation | 222039 (1) |
Installation Steps
- Turn OFF gas and electric power.
- Remove existing propane valve.
NOTE: The replacement valve is 3/4 × 3/4. If the existing valve is 1/2 × 3/4, a 1/2 × 3/4 bushing is required in the 3/4-inch valve outlet port of the replacement valve.
- If necessary, install 1/2 × 3/4 hex bushing in 3/4-inch valve outlet port of replacement valve.
NOTE: The replacement valve has a 1/4-inch compression nut at the pilot tubing connection. If the existing valve has an 1/8-inch compression nut, the compression nut in the replacement valve must be replaced.
- If necessary, replace compression nut at pilot tubing connection with 1/8-inch compression nut.
DANGER
- Pipe joint compounds (pipe dope) shall be resistant to the action of liquefied petroleum gas or any other chemical constituents of the gas being supplied.
- All components of a gas supply system must be leak tested prior to placing equipment in service. NEVER TEST WITH AN OPEN FLAME.
NOTE: Adjustment of field-supplied gas supply piping may be required.
- Install replacement valve using pipe joint compound that is resistant to liquefied petroleum gas.
- Leak-test all connections using leak-detecting solution.
- If replacing valve PN 157167 or 157168, adjust gas manifold pressure to match rating plate in accordance with installation, operation, and maintenance manual provided with heater.
- When gas manifold pressure has been properly adjusted and no leaks are found, adhere label from kit in clean, dry location on side of gas valve.
- Turn ON electric power and gas, start up heater, and check for proper operation.
