Care and Cleaning

General Cautions:

  • DO NOT USE COMMERCIAL OVEN CLEANERS, STEAM CLEANERS, ABRASIVE, HARSH CLEANERS, OR ANYTHING CONTAINING SODIUM HYDROXIDE OR SCOURING PADS ON ANY PART OF YOUR MICROWAVE OVEN.
  • Clean the oven at regular intervals and remove food deposits. Failure to keep the oven clean can lead to surface deterioration, adversely affecting the appliance's life and potentially causing a hazardous situation.

Oven Interior Cleaning:

  • 1. Wipe splatters or spills with a soft damp cloth or sponge after each use while the oven is still warm.
  • 2. For heavier spills, use mild soap and wipe several times with a damp cloth until residues are removed. Do not remove the waveguide cover.
  • 3. Ensure mild soap or water does not penetrate small vents in the walls, which may cause damage.
  • 4. Do not use spray cleaners on the oven interior.
  • Keep the waveguide cover clean at all times. It is constructed from fragile material and requires careful cleaning.
  • NOTE: Excessive soaking may cause disintegration of the waveguide cover. The waveguide cover is a consumable part and may need replacement if not cleaned regularly.

Oven Exterior Cleaning:

Clean the outside with mild soap and water. Wipe off soap with a moist cloth, and dry the exterior with a soft towel.

Control Panel Cleaning:

Open the door before cleaning to deactivate the control panel. Use only a cloth dampened with water to gently wipe the panel. Avoid excessive water or any chemical/abrasive cleaners.

CAUTION:

Take care not to move the TIMER knob from "0" (off) position during cleaning, or the oven will start as soon as the door is closed.

Turntable and Turntable Support Cleaning:

Remove the turntable and turntable support. Wash in mild soapy water and dry with a soft cloth. Both are dishwasher safe.

Door Cleaning:

Clean both sides of the door, seals, and adjacent parts with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

NOTE:

A steam cleaner should not be used.

Cleaning Tip:

For easier cleaning, place half a lemon in a bowl with 300 ml (1/2 pint) water. Heat for 10-12 minutes. Wipe the oven clean with a soft, dry cloth.

Troubleshooting

Perform these simple checks before calling for service:

Place half a cup of water on the turntable, close the door, and set the oven to cook for 1 minute. Check:

  • 1. Does the oven lamp come on?
  • 2. Does the turntable rotate?
  • 3. Does the cooling fan work? (Check by placing your hand above the air vent openings.)
  • 4. Does the audible signal sound after 1 minute?
  • 5. Is the water in the cup hot?
  • 6. Does the grill heating element become red after 3 minutes?

If you answer "NO" to any question, first check if the oven is plugged in and the fuse has not blown. If these are okay, consult the troubleshooting chart.

Troubleshooting Chart:

QueryAnswer
Draught circulates around the door. When the oven is working, air circulates within the cavity. The door does not form an airtight seal, allowing air to escape.
Condensation forms in the oven, and may drip from the door. The oven cavity is colder than the food, causing steam to condense on the surface. This is normal, especially with high-moisture foods. Condensation trapped in the door glass should clear after a few hours.
Flashing or arcing from within the cavity when cooking.Arcing occurs when a metallic object is too close to the oven cavity during cooking. This may roughen the cavity surface but typically does not damage the oven.
Arcing potatoes.Ensure all "eyes" are removed from potatoes and that they have been pierced. Place directly onto the turntable or in a heat-resistant flan dish.
The display is lit but the control panel will not work when pressed.Check that the door is closed properly.
Oven cooks too slowly.Ensure the correct power level has been selected.
Oven makes a noise. The microwave energy pulses ON and OFF during cooking/defrosting.
Outer cabinet is hot.The cabinet may become hot to touch; keep children away.

Warnings:

  • WARNING: Never adjust, repair, or modify the oven yourself. It is hazardous for anyone other than a SHARP trained engineer to carry out servicing or repairs, as this may involve removing covers that protect against microwave energy.
  • The door seal prevents microwave leakage but is not airtight. Seeing drops of water, light, or feeling warm air around the door is normal.
  • Repairs and Modifications: Do not operate the oven if it is not working properly.
  • Outer Cabinet & Lamp Access: Never remove the outer cabinet due to dangerous high-voltage parts. If the oven lamp fails, do not attempt to replace it yourself; contact your nearest SHARP approved service centre.
