The Sharp R-872 features a control panel, microwave cavity, grill elements, convection fan, and various accessories.

  • Buttons: Include functions like Power Level, Convection, Grill, Auto Cook, Defrost, Pizza, Cake/Bread, Information, Language, Stop, and +1 min/Start.
  • Rotary Dial: Used for setting time, weight, and temperature.

  • Combination: Uses a mix of microwave, grill, and convection for faster cooking.

  • Energy Saving Mode: Automatically powers down the display and functions after a period of inactivity. English is the default language in this mode.

Important Safety Instructions

Read all safety instructions carefully before use.

Fire Prevention:

  • Never leave the oven unattended during operation.
  • Do not use excessively high power settings or cook for too long, as this can cause food to overheat and ignite.
  • Remove any metallic items from food packaging.
  • Do not use the oven for frying.
  • Use only microwave-safe cookware.
  • Clean the oven regularly; accumulated grease can cause smoke or fire.
  • Do not place flammable materials near the oven or its ventilation openings.

Electrical Safety:

  • Do not operate the oven if it is damaged.
  • Ensure the power cord is not damaged and is properly connected to a grounded outlet.
  • Do not immerse the power cord or plug in water.
  • Do not attempt to repair the oven yourself; contact qualified service personnel.

Preventing Burns and Injury:

  • Always use oven mitts when handling hot food or accessories.
  • Open containers and packaging carefully to avoid steam burns.
  • Check food temperature before serving, especially for children and the elderly.
  • Do not operate the oven with the door open or tampered safety locks.

Child Safety:

Installation:

  • Place the oven on a stable, level surface.
  • Install at least 85 cm from the floor to prevent children from reaching it.

Before First Use

Before using the oven for the first time, it is recommended to run it empty for 20 minutes with the grill elements on to burn off any manufacturing residues. This may produce some smoke and odor.

Language Selection:

The oven is preset to English. To change the language, press the LANGUE [Language] button until the desired language appears on the display, then press the +1 min / DEPART button.

Note: Selecting a different language deactivates the Energy Saving Mode.

Energy Saving Mode:

The oven enters Energy Saving Mode after 2 minutes of inactivity. To exit, open and close the door.

Operating Modes

Manual Operation

You can program the oven for cooking using microwave power, grill, or convection, or a combination of these. The time can be set from 10 seconds up to 90 minutes, with increments varying by duration.

Example: To reheat soup for 2 minutes and 30 seconds at 630W (medium power):

  1. Select Microwave mode (symbol: ).
  2. Set the cooking time to 2 minutes and 30 seconds using the DUREE/POIDS [Time/Weight] dial.
  3. Change the power level by pressing the NIVEAU DE PUISSANCE MICRO-ONDES [Microwave Power Level] button.
  4. Press the +1 min / DEPART button to start cooking.

Grill Cooking

The oven has two grill elements. Select the desired grill function (Top Grill, Bottom Grill, or Both Grills) using the MODE CUISSON [Cooking Mode] dial. You can use the low or high rack for grilling.

Convection Cooking

The oven offers 10 temperature settings for convection cooking, ranging from 40°C to 250°C. You can preheat the oven to a specific temperature before placing food inside.

Combination Cooking

Three combination modes are available, mixing microwave, grill, and convection for faster and more efficient cooking. Each mode has specific power level and temperature settings.

Automatic Functions

The oven features automatic programs for various foods, including cakes, bread, pizza, gratins, roasts, and defrosting. Simply select the program number, enter the weight of the food, and press start.

Automatic Cooking Programs:

  • Cake/Bread: Programs for cakes and bread.
  • Pizza: Programs for frozen, refrigerated, and fresh pizzas/quiches.
  • Auto Cook: Programs for various dishes like roasts, brochettes, gratins, and fish.
  • Automatic Defrosting: Programs for poultry, meat, and fish.

Example: To cook 0.3 kg of frozen pizza using the PIZZA function:

  1. Select PIZZA program No. 2.
  2. Enter the weight (0.3 kg).
  3. Press +1 min / DEPART to start.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning is essential for optimal performance and safety.

  • Exterior: Clean with mild soap and water, then dry with a soft cloth.
  • Control Panel: Wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid excessive moisture.
  • Interior: Wipe up spills immediately with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, use mild soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
  • Turntable: Wash with mild soapy water and dry. It is dishwasher safe.
  • Racks: Wash with diluted dishwashing liquid and dry. They are also dishwasher safe.
  • Door Seal: Wipe the door, seals, and contact surfaces with a damp cloth.

Caution: Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals inside or outside the oven.

Troubleshooting

Before calling a service technician, check the following:

  • Power Supply: Ensure the oven is properly connected and the fuse/circuit breaker is functional.
  • Lamp: Check if the oven lamp lights up when the door is open.
  • Operation: Verify that the turntable rotates and the fan operates correctly. Check if the water in a test cup heats up.
  • Grill: Check if the grill elements glow red during operation.
