Getting Started
This document provides setup instructions for your new HP computer. It covers initial setup, connecting to networks, accessing important documentation, and understanding warranty and safety information.
Accessing User Guides
User guides and additional information for your HP computer can be accessed in several ways, depending on your operating system:
- Windows® Products: Select the Start button, then All apps, and then Tips or Get Help. To access user guides, select the Search icon, type HP Documentation, and then select HP Documentation.
- Linux® Products: Double-click the HP Documents icon on the desktop.
- FreeDOS Products: Select HP Documents on the Boot Menu.
For the latest information, including how-to topics, updates, accessories, cleaning, Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), and upgrades, visit http://www.hp.com/support and follow the instructions to find your product, then select Manuals.
A User Guides disc may be included with some products.
Connecting to a Network
To connect to a network:
- Ensure the AC adapter is connected to the computer before turning it on for the first time.
- Select the Network icon in the lower-right corner of the taskbar.
- Connect to one of the available networks.
To set up a WLAN and connect to the internet, you will need a broadband modem (DSL or cable, purchased separately), internet service from an internet service provider, and a wireless router (purchased separately).
Locating System Information
System information is provided on the service label or found in one of the following locations: the bottom of the computer, the back of the display, inside the battery bay, or beneath the service door. The label may be in paper form or imprinted on the product. In some Windows products, you can briefly press the fn + esc key combination to display the System Information screen.
Contacting Support
To resolve a hardware or software problem, go to http://www.hp.com/support. This site provides more information about your product, including links to discussion forums and troubleshooting instructions. You can also find information about how to contact HP and open a support case.

WARNING! To reduce the possibility of heat-related injuries or overheating:
- Do not place the computer directly on your lap or obstruct the computer air vents.
- Use the computer only on a hard, flat surface.
- Do not allow other surfaces (hard or soft, like pillows, rugs, or clothing) to block airflow.
- Do not allow the AC adapter to contact the skin or soft surfaces during operation.
Software Terms
By installing, copying, downloading, or otherwise using any software product preinstalled on this computer, you agree to be bound by the terms of the HP End User License Agreement (EULA). If you do not accept these terms, your sole remedy is to return the entire unused product within 14 days for a full refund, subject to your seller's refund policy.

Limited Warranty
HP may provide a printed warranty in the box in some countries or regions. Where a printed warranty is not provided, you can request a copy from http://www.hp.com/go/orderdocuments. HP Services Scan, provided with Windows Update on select products, checks device entitlement and automatically downloads applicable software. HP TechPulse is a telemetry and analytics platform. Windows Start Screen Navigation:
- Display the Start Menu: Select the Start button.
- Find Settings: Select the Start button, then the Settings icon.
- Shut Down Computer: Select the Start button, then the Power icon, then Shut down.
- Search: Select the Search icon in the taskbar and type in the search box.
- Switch Between Open Apps: Select the Task view icon.
Gestures:
- Touchpad or Touch Screen: Tap or double-tap to select; Pinch to zoom; Slide to scroll (touch screen only); Tap to right-click (touchpad only); Slide to navigate (touchpad only).
- Multifeatured gestures: For details, select Start, Settings, Bluetooth & Devices, then Touchpad.
