Introduction
Is your iRobot Roomba i7 not moving? Is it moving but constantly turning in circles? Is your device moving much slower than usual? To fix this problem, you will need to replace the motorized wheels on the underside of your Roomba. This guide will help you replace the motorized wheels on your iRobot Roomba i7.
The motorized wheels are located on the underside of the iRobot Roomba i7 on both the left and right side of the dual roller rubber brush system. The purpose of these wheels is to move your Roomba around your home as it cleans.
Before you begin using this guide: Make sure that your Roomba is turned off and disconnected from the charging station or Home Base.
Tools Required:
- Phillips #1 Screwdriver (1)
- iFixit Opening Tools (1)
Step 1: Motorized Wheels
⚠️ Before you begin using this guide, make sure that your Roomba is turned off and disconnected from the charging station or Home Base.
Flip the iRobot Roomba i7 so that the underside is facing upwards.
Using the Phillips #1 screwdriver, unscrew the 6.27mm-screw in the center of the side brush. The screw is highlighted by a red circle in the accompanying image.
The underside of an iRobot Roomba i7 robotic vacuum cleaner is displayed. Key components visible include the main body, the dual roller brush system (two green rollers), and the motorized wheel assemblies on either side. One motorized wheel assembly is detached and shown to the left.
Step 2: Remove Side Brush
After unscrewing the side brush screw, gently pull the brush up, as shown in the accompanying images.
If the side brush is difficult to pull, use a plastic opening tool to take it out.
A series of three images illustrating the removal of the side brush. The first image shows the side brush after the central screw has been removed. The subsequent images demonstrate how to gently pull the brush upwards. A plastic opening tool is shown as a recommended item if the brush is difficult to dislodge.
Step 3: Remove Underside Cover
Use the Phillips #1 screwdriver to unscrew the five 6.24mm screws retaining the underside cover. These screws are indicated by red circles in the image.
Gently lift the underside cover off of your Roomba, exposing the inside components.
The underside of the iRobot Roomba i7 is shown. Five screws, each marked with a red circle, are visible around the edges of the removable underside cover. These screws secure the cover to the main body of the robot.
Step 4: Remove Motorized Wheel
Using a Phillips #1 screwdriver, unscrew the two 4.37mm-screws retaining the motorized wheels. These screws are marked with red circles in the image.
Lift the motorized wheel assembly out of the Roomba to be replaced.
With the underside cover removed, the internal components of the iRobot Roomba i7 are visible. Two screws, highlighted by red circles, are shown securing the motorized wheel assembly. The image also depicts the motorized wheel assembly being lifted away from the robot's chassis.
