Control4® Smart Home Intercom Guide
This guide provides information on using your Control4 Smart Home Intercom system.

Introduction
Stay in touch with your entire household, whether you're at home or away, with the Control4 intercom system. Send live video messages to the whole house, a single room, or a group of rooms remotely or from a touch screen.
Depending on your system, you can:
- ? Answer the door for deliveries – while you're at home or away.
- ?️ Check on children or elderly parents.
- ? Call the family to dinner.
- And much more.
This guide will help you learn to send intercom messages, add smartphones to your system, adjust call/answer settings, and create intercom groups to send messages to multiple rooms simultaneously.
Setting Up Your System
To begin using the Control4 intercom system, your home must have:
- At least two intercom-enabled devices (e.g., Door Stations, Touch Screens).
Using Intercom with Older Systems
If you do not need to integrate a smartphone, your intercom system can use older devices, including:
- 7" In-Wall Touch Screens (audio only)
- 7" In-Wall Touch Screens with Camera (audio and video)
- 7" Portable Touch Screens with Camera (audio and video, local only)
- Control4 Door Station (audio only)
Using Intercom with Your Smartphone
To use your smartphone with the Control4 Intercom system, you will need:
- A compatible smartphone (Android v. 5.1+ or iOS v. 10+).
- An annual subscription to Control4 4Sight (approximately $10/month).
- Compatible intercom-enabled devices in your home.
- A Control4 account for each smartphone user.
The Control4 Intercom Anywhere app allows you to manage automations and integrate with Amazon Alexa. For more information, contact your dealer or visit customer.control4.com.
Compatible Intercom-Enabled Devices
Control4 intercom-enabled devices include Door Stations and Touch Screens:
Door Stations
Installed next to an entrance, Door Stations feature a security camera, two-way intercom, keypad, and doorbell. They allow you to screen visitors, answer the door remotely, and require security codes. Models like the DS2 or DS2 Mini and higher allow remote door answering via smartphone.
Touch Screens
Control4 Touch Screens are typically in main rooms and control your automated home. T3 Series Touch Screens and higher enable intercom announcements and calls from your smartphone.
Note: Consult your dealer to confirm device compatibility with the Intercom Anywhere app.
A Control4 User Profile for Each Smartphone
Before adding a smartphone, create a secure user profile for it in your Control4 account.
- Log in to your Control4 account at customer.control4.com.
- Navigate to Account > Manage Users > Add > New User.
- Enter the user's name, email, password, and select permissions.
- Under Activate, select "This user is enabled" and click Save. An invitation will be emailed to the new user.
Ensure the invitation is accepted before installing the Intercom Anywhere app.
Connecting Your Smartphone
To connect a smartphone, install the Control4 Intercom Anywhere app on each device.
- Install the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store (search for "Control4 Intercom").
- Tap the Control4 Intercom icon to open the app.
- Enter your Control4 user profile username and password to connect the smartphone to the intercom system.
Your smartphone is now connected and ready to use.
Touch Screen Intercom Menu Overview
Once activated, an intercom icon appears at the top of each Control4 touch screen. Tap this icon to send messages, adjust settings, and more.

Send a Message
Use the icons on the home page to send a message to a single room, a group of rooms, or the entire house.
Message a Single Room
- From the touch screen, tap the Intercom icon.
- A list of your home's intercom devices will display. Tap a device icon and start speaking to send your message.
Message a Group of Rooms
Broadcast a message to several rooms at once using an intercom group. Creating a group allows you to contact specific areas of your home.
- From the touch screen, tap the Intercom icon.
- A list of devices and groups appears, with a megaphone icon ? next to each group. Tap an intercom group and start speaking.
Message the Entire House
- From the touch screen, tap the Intercom icon.
- Tap the icon for the "All" group.
- Start speaking to broadcast a message to the entire house.
Create Groups
With an intercom group, you can send a message to several rooms simultaneously.
- From the touch screen, tap the Intercom icon, then tap the Groups icon ➕.
- Select the devices you want to include in the group and tap Next. Note: Smartphones cannot be added to intercom groups.
- Type a name for the group and tap Save. The group will appear on the main screen.
- To edit an existing group, tap the edit icon ✏️.
Intercom Settings (Touch Screen)
Tap the Settings icon ⚙️ to control intercom behavior, such as Do Not Disturb, Auto Answer, volume, and more.
Smartphone Intercom Menu Overview
After setup, use the Control4 Intercom Anywhere app to answer the door remotely, make announcements, and more. The app home screen displays all intercom devices and groups.

Call a Group (Smartphone)
Send a message to several rooms at once using an intercom group. A broadcast icon ? displays next to each group.
- Tap the icon for an intercom group to start broadcasting a message from your smartphone.
- To call your entire house, tap the "All" group. Tapping "All" calls all devices and initiates a call with the first device to answer.
Note: Intercom groups must be created from the Control4 touch screen.
Intercom Devices (Smartphone View)
Individual intercom devices display with an icon, name, and location. Icons indicate device type and video/audio capabilities. Tap an icon to call a device.
Intercom Settings (Smartphone)
Tap the Settings icon ⚙️ to change device settings, such as Do Not Disturb, Ring Tone, Video Quality, and more.
Using Your Intercom System
The intercom system can be used to:
- Answer the door with your smartphone or touch screen.
- Broadcast messages to your entire home, a group of rooms, or a single room.
- Monitor your child's room.
- Change intercom device settings.
- Add, edit, or delete intercom groups.
- And much more.
Answering a Door Station Call
When a doorbell is rung on your Control4 door station, you can see and hear the caller before answering.
- You can see video from the door station or camera on your touch screen or smartphone (DS2 and DS2 Mini only).
- Use the icons to answer or ignore the call. Speak into the touch screen or smartphone after answering.
- If your dealer configured custom buttons (e.g., "Unlock Door" ?, "Turn on Light" ?), tap them to trigger actions.
Making a One-to-One Call
To communicate with a single device (like answering the door), make a one-to-one call. This allows one device to call another.
- From your smartphone or touch screen, tap the Control4 Intercom icon.
- Tap the icon for another device to start a one-to-one call.

Answering a Call on a Touch Screen
When a call comes in, the touch screen rings and displays answer/ignore buttons.
- Tap an icon to answer or ignore the call.
Choose to answer with audio ? or video ?, or to ignore the call ❌.
Note: If Auto Answer is enabled, buttons won't appear; the call answers automatically.
Answering a Call on a Smartphone
When a device calls your smartphone, use these icons to answer or ignore:

Touch Screen In-Call Menu and Options
During a call on a touch screen, these buttons may appear:
- Volume ?: Adjust speaker volume.
- Mic Volume ?: Adjust microphone level.
- Video ?: Enable or disable video.
- Call Control Buttons: Use to answer, reject, end, or end and call back the sender.
Options to Answer with audio ?, video ?, or ignore ❌ may be available.
Note: Buttons may vary by device and call type. Some screens allow ending the call or ending and calling back the sender.
Smartphone In-Call Menu and Options
During a call on your smartphone, these buttons appear:
- Audio ?: Enable or disable audio.
- Camera ?: Enable or disable video.
- Flip Camera ?: Switch between front/rear cameras.
- End Call ⏹️: End the call.

Making a Group Call from a Touch Screen
Invite your whole family with one tap.
- Select the intercom icon on your touch screen.
- Select "Custom Call."
- Select the group of devices to include, then tap the group name to place the call.
Note: Group calls from touch screens act as "broadcasted messages" received by all devices simultaneously. Smartphones do not receive group calls. Behavior may vary between different touch screen types.
Making a Group Call from a Smartphone
When making a group call from a smartphone, all devices in the selected group will ring, but only the first to answer will receive the call.
- Open the Control4 Intercom Anywhere app.
- Tap the name of the intercom group you want to call.
Note: If "Do Not Disturb" is enabled on a device, it will not receive the group call.
Monitoring a Room
Easily monitor another intercom device (like a touch screen), perfect for a baby monitor or checking on elderly parents.
- To configure a touch screen as a monitored device, tap Settings ⚙️, then enable "Monitor Mode" on the device you want to listen to (e.g., the baby's room touch screen).
- After enabling Monitor Mode, call that intercom device to start monitoring.

Tap the "x" icon ❌ to stop monitoring.
Tip: An alternate camera view can be configured by your dealer for optimal viewing.
Managing Your Intercom Groups
Create and modify intercom groups from your touch screen to easily contact specific areas of your home. Dealers can also configure groups.
Note: Groups cannot be managed via the smartphone app. Smartphones cannot be added to intercom groups.
- Use your touch screen to create an intercom group.
- Open the intercom menu.
- Tap the Groups icon ➕, then select each intercom device to include.

- To edit or delete existing groups, tap the edit icon ✏️ on the intercom home screen, then tap "Edit" or "Delete" next to the group you want to edit or delete.
Settings
Access Settings ⚙️ to adjust intercom preferences for your smartphone or touch screen.
Changing Smartphone Settings
Open the Control4 Intercom Anywhere app and tap the settings icon ⚙️.
- Do Not Disturb: Prevents your smartphone from ringing for doorbell or intercom calls.
- Start Calls With: Choose to answer incoming calls with video or audio only.
- Video Quality: Select High or Low.
- Ringtone: Select a ringtone for Control4 Intercom calls.
- Call History: Review past incoming and outgoing calls.

Changing Touch Screen Settings
Open the intercom on your touch screen and tap the settings icon ⚙️.
- Do Not Disturb: Prevents the touch screen from ringing for doorbell or group calls and makes it unavailable for one-to-one calls.
- Auto Answer: Automatically answers incoming calls with audio.
- Auto Video: Automatically sends video when a call is made or answered.
- Monitor Mode: Allows the room to be monitored (see "Monitoring a Room").
- Default Speaker Volume ?: Adjust the speaker volume for incoming calls.
- Default Microphone Volume ?: Adjust the microphone volume for calls.
- Ring Volume: Adjust the ring volume for the touch screen.
