Kwikset Powerbolt 250 Keypad Electronic Lock

Step 1: Prepare the Door & Check Dimensions

• Door Hole Diameter: Confirm 2-1/8 in (54 mm) or 1-1/2 in (38 mm). An adapter ring is required for 1-1/2 in holes.
• Backset: Confirm 2-3/8 in (60 mm) or 2-3/4 in (70 mm).
• Door Edge Hole: Confirm 1 in (25 mm) diameter.
• Door Thickness: Confirm between 1-3/8 in (35 mm) and 1-3/4 in (44 mm). Contact Kwikset customer service for thick door kits if needed.

If drilling a new door, use the supplied template and instructions from www.kwikset.com/doorprep.

Step 2: Install the Latch & Strike

• Hold the latch in front of the door hole, flush with the door edge. Ensure the rectangular shaped hole is centered.
• If the door edge is chiselled, install the latch with supplied screws. If not chiselled, remove the latch face, twist off the collar, and install the drive-in collar. Ensure the slotted hole is at the bottom of the latch.
• Install the strike on the door frame. Ensure the hole in the door frame is drilled a minimum of 1 in (25 mm) deep.
• Important: Make sure the latch bolt is fully retracted (in the unlocked position) before proceeding.

Step 3: Install the Exterior Keypad

• Route the cable from the exterior keypad underneath the latch.
• Position the exterior keypad and mounting plate, ensuring the flat blade is horizontal and the top of the mounting plate is visible and parallel to the door edge.
• Secure the mounting plate with screws. Tighten evenly, but do not overtighten.
• Insert the key and test the latch to ensure smooth extension and retraction. Remove the key and ensure the latch bolt is fully extended.

Step 4: Install the Interior Assembly

• Remove the interior cover.
• Ensure the latch bolt is in the extended/locked position and the turnpiece shaft is rotated upwards.
• Connect the cable from the exterior keypad to the interior assembly, ensuring a tight connection. Route the cable around the side notch and bottom.
• Insert the flat blade into the turnpiece shaft.
• Secure the interior assembly to the mounting plate using the correct screws.

Step 5: Install the Batteries

• Ensure the door is open and the interior cover is off before installing batteries.
• Install 4 new, non-rechargeable AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Batteries are not included.

Step 6: Add User Codes (Max 25)

1. Remove interior cover. Press the Program button once.
2. Press number 1.
3. Press the Kwikset logo once.
4. Enter a new user code (4-8 digits).
5. Press the Kwikset logo once.

Note: The first 4 digits of each User Code must be unique. After the first User Code is created, the lock will automatically learn the locking/unlocking direction.

Step 7: Test the Lock

• To Lock: Press the Kwikset logo button. The lock will beep twice and the Kwikset logo button will flash amber as the deadbolt extends.
• To Unlock: Enter the user code. The lock will beep twice and the Kwikset logo button will flash green as the deadbolt retracts.

Adding a One-time User Code (Max 5)

1. Remove interior cover. Press the Program button.
2. Press number 7.
3. Press the Kwikset logo.
4. Enter the one-time user code (4-8 digits).
5. Press the Kwikset logo.

One-time User Codes are automatically deleted after one use.

Deleting User Codes

• Delete a Single User Code: Follow steps similar to adding a user code, but press number 2 instead of 1, and enter the specific user code to delete twice.
• Delete ALL User Codes: Remove interior cover, press Program button, press number 4, press Kwikset logo, press number 4 again, then press Kwikset logo. Note: Keypad locking will be disabled; lock can only be operated manually by key.

Enable/Disable Audio

To toggle audio, remove interior cover, press Program button, press number 5, then press Kwikset logo. The LED status indicator will still function when audio is disabled.

Enable/Disable User Codes

To toggle all user codes, remove interior cover, press Program button, press number 6, then press Kwikset logo. All electronic functions will be disabled when user codes are disabled.

Enable/Disable Auto-Lock & Time Delay

• To toggle Auto-Lock: Remove interior cover, press Program button, press number 9, then press Kwikset logo.
• To change Auto-Lock Time Delay: Remove interior cover, press Program button, press number 8, press Kwikset logo, choose delay (30 seconds, 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes) by pressing the corresponding number, then press Kwikset logo.

Door Rehanding

To rehand the door, remove interior cover, press Program button, press number 0, then press Kwikset logo. The latch bolt will extend and retract to learn the door's orientation.

Factory Reset

Ensure the lock is in an unlocked position. Remove interior cover, PRESS and HOLD the programming button for 15 seconds (until a long beep), then press the programming button once more. This deletes all user codes and resets all programming settings.

Add/Change Programming Code

To add or change a Programming Code, remove interior cover, press Program button, press number 3, press Kwikset logo, enter the new Programming Code (4-8 digits, not same as user code), then press Kwikset logo. This code allows programming changes without accessing the interior programming button.
