Vivint Doorbell Camera Pro (Gen 2)
Quick Reference: Installation & Operation
Product Overview
The Vivint Doorbell Camera Pro (Gen 2) integrates with your Vivint Smart Home system, notifying you of visitors whether they press the doorbell or not. It allows you to see and speak with visitors via the control panel and mobile apps, providing live and recorded video, two-way audio communication, and an LED light ring indicating camera status.
Professionally installed by a Vivint technician, the doorbell camera connects to the system via NFC, Wi-Fi Connect, or WPS. It enhances smart home automation by working with devices like remote door locks and light switches.
Key features include: Night vision with IR LEDs, a full 180° field of view (FOV), pinch-to-zoom video, person-triggered and/or ring notifications, and Micro SD card support for on-device 24/7 DVR playback.
This document covers product description, installation and test instructions, user functionality, technical specifications, and regulatory compliance.
Installation Instructions
Installation is performed by a Vivint technician. The procedure varies slightly depending on whether an existing doorbell is present.
Scenario 1: With an Existing Doorbell
- Locate the chime box.
- Remove the FRT and TRANS wires from the screw terminals, keeping them separated.
- Verify the existing doorbell no longer has power.
- Detach the existing doorbell.
- If a wire is on the REAR terminal for a working doorbell, remove and cap it. If multiple chime boxes exist, remove FRT and TRANS wires from all.
Scenario 2: Without an Existing Doorbell
- Consult with the homeowner to identify the best installation location and the nearest interior unswitched power outlet.
- Drill a hole for wiring at the mounting location.
- Run 18/2 wire from the Doorbell Camera Pro (DBC) to the power source. Use wire molding for wall/floorboard runs; do not use staples.
Pairing and Mounting Steps
- Pairing via NFC: On the panel, tap Menu ➡️ Software version ➡️ enter PIN 2203 ➡️ Smart Home devices ➡️ Cameras ➡️ Add camera.
- Tap NFC ➡️ Add. Align the DBC logo with the panel's white light until pairing is complete.
- Mounting: Run power wires through the back plate's rubber grommet. Strip and secure wires to screw terminals (polarity does not matter).
- Attach the back plate to the wall/doorframe using two screws. Secure rubber gaskets.
- If applicable, twist and cap the FRT and TRANS wires together at the chime box.
- Place the doorbell unit onto the back plate, securing the bottom to the set screw and swinging it up to clip into the top latch.
- Verify power is present; the LED light will illuminate.
- Wait a few minutes for the DBC to boot up, load firmware, and configure settings. It will then show as online. Do not interrupt this process.
- Verify live video is viewable on the panel and the app.
Installation Tips / Best Practices
- Push excess wire back into the wall; ensure no exposed wires or exterior runs.
- Use a spacer to adjust the angle if the camera view is blocked.
- For brick, concrete, stucco, wood, or vinyl, use outdoor-rated screws and pre-drill if necessary.
- Do NOT use drywall screws or screws that do not sit flush on the back plate.
- Do NOT mount to metal surfaces.
- Refer to the Field Service website for guidelines on replacing doorbells with non-standard voltage sources (12-24V range).
Operation Overview / User Functionality
Once operational, users can perform the following functions via the Vivint panel and mobile apps:
- View live video feed.
- View recorded video clips.
- Receive person-triggered (event) notifications.
- Engage in two-way talk.
For camera management and configuration (via Devices ➡️ Cameras settings):
