Safety instructions
- Do not install the FRITZ!Box during an electrical storm.
- During a storm, disconnect the FRITZ!Box from the power supply and from the Internet.
- The ventilation slits of the FRITZ!Box must never be obstructed.
- Do not place the FRITZ!Box on excessively heat-sensitive surfaces.
- Insert the the FRITZ!Box into an outlet that is easy to reach.
- The FRITZ!Box is intended only for indoor operation.

Connect to electrical power
Connect the FRITZ!Box to electrical power. The “Power” LED starts flashing.
Set the connection type/Connect to the VDSL bonding line or a modem
Register DECT cordless telephones
You can register and confi gure a total of up to 6 cordless (DECT) telephones on the FRITZ!Box.
- Put your DECT telephone in registration mode.
- Enter the PIN “0000” on the telephone.
- Press and hold down the “DECT” button on the FRITZ!Box
Connect telephones by cable
- Connect analog devices to the sockets FON 1 or FON 2.
Connect computers
You connect computers and other network devices with the FRITZ!Box either wirelessly via wireless LAN or using a network cable. You can establish the wireless LAN connection using WPS or by entering the FRITZ!Box network key on the wireless device.
A computer can be connected with the FRITZ!Box using only one of these methods.
Wireless LAN quick connection (WPS)
Computers with wireless LAN can be connected with the FRITZ!Box using WPS:
- Click the WLAN icon in the notifi cation area of the Windows task bar.
- A list appears on the screen showing all wireless networks.
- Select the wireless network of your FRITZ!Box 7581 and click “Connect”.
- Press the “WPS” button on the FRITZ!Box until the “WLAN” LED begins flashing.
Select the Internet connection
The FRITZ!Box is connected directly to VDSL or via the WAN port to a fiber optic modem, for instance. The FRITZ!Box requires Internet account information for the Internet connection.
Configuration with http://fritz.box
- The FRITZ!Box has a user interface for device settings, which can be opened in any web browser by entering http://fritz.box.
The FRITZ!Box is connected via the WAN port to a cable modem, for instance. The FRITZ!Box uses the existing Internet connection and does not require any Internet account information of its own.

- Enter a web address to start surfing.
