Hilti KB-TZ2 Wedge Anchor
1/2" x 3"
Document Number: 2284815-03.2025
Installation Overview
The Hilti KB-TZ2 wedge anchor is designed for secure fastening in concrete and grout-filled CMU. Proper installation ensures optimal performance and safety. The following steps outline the recommended installation procedure.
Step 1: Hole Preparation
Drill a hole in the base material using the appropriate drill bit and depth. Ensure the hole is clean and free of debris.
- Drill Bit Diameter (d₀): 1/2 inch. Use carbide-tipped masonry drill bits complying with ANSI B212.15.1994.
- Hole Cleaning: Use dust removal systems (DRS) or compressed air/brush to clean the hole thoroughly. This is crucial for achieving the specified embedment depth (h₀).
- Hole Depth: The minimum hole depth in the base material (h₀) is 2¼ inches. The effective embedment depth (h_ef) is 1½ inches, and the nominal embedment depth (h_nom) is 2 inches. Ensure drilling depth accounts for any debris remaining in the hole to achieve the required h₀.
- Drilling Angle: Drill at a 90° angle to the surface.
Supported Drill Bits and Systems:
- Hollow Drill Bit (HDB)
- Dust Removal Systems (DRS)
- AT-System: SIW 6AT-A22 + SI AT-A22, SIW 4AT-22 + SI-AT-22, SIW 6AT-22 + SI-AT-22
- Diamond Core Bit
Step 2: Anchor Insertion
Insert the anchor into the prepared hole. Ensure it is seated correctly. If necessary, gently tap the anchor head with a hammer to fully seat it.
Step 3: Tightening the Anchor
Place the fixture over the anchor and thread the nut onto the anchor stud. Tighten the nut using the specified wrench size (WS) until the anchor is fully set.
- Installation Torque (T_inst): For concrete, the installation torque is 50 ft-lb. For grout-filled CMU, it is 25 ft-lb.
- AT-System: The AT-System is not applicable for grout-filled CMU and wood fastening applications.

Important Notes
Use only carbide-tipped masonry drill bits complying with ANSI B212.15.1994.
For steps 1a or 1b, ensure the drill depth is sufficient to accommodate any debris remaining in the hole to achieve the required h₀.
Note: The AT-System is not applicable for grout-filled CMU and wood fastening applications.
