5-21-24 Example of Small Group Instruction

Grade 8 English Language Arts: Frequency: Daily; Interval: 30 minutes; Stationary groups
Technology: Students complete a standardsbased assignment using technology as an engagement tool.
Teacher-Led: Students receive differentiated small group instruction from you.
Independent Practice: Students work independently to complete practice on a current standard.
Skill: Students work to complete a skill lesson such as writing, vocabulary, interactive, remediation, or enrichment.

*Set aside time on Friday for students to make up or complete any small group rotation they missed.

Students Work to Complete Small Group Rotations Monday–Friday
Place students into four groups based on differentiation. The delivery and rigor of material and instruction will adjust to students’ needs.
Group 1: Lower-performing students (i.e., two or more grade levels behind)
Group 2: One grade level behind or striving students
Group 3: On-grade level students
Group 4: High-flying students
