PetJoy Anti Bark Collar (Model PD 258) User Manual

Smart Automatic Bark Collar with 7-Stage Escalating Beep-to-Shock Correction

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the PetJoy Anti Bark Collar. This device is designed to assist in training your dog to reduce excessive barking through a humane and progressive correction system. It features 5 adjustable sensitivity levels and a 7-stage escalating correction sequence, starting with a beep and progressing to a gentle shock if barking continues. Please read this manual thoroughly before use to ensure proper operation and your dog's safety and comfort.

Important Safety Information

  • Always check the area of your dog's neck that touches the collar to ensure their skin stays healthy. Inspect for any signs of irritation or sores daily.
  • While your dog wears this collar, do not clip any leash directly to it. Please use another standalone collar or harness for leash attachment.
  • We recommend using this collar only during training sessions, not as an everyday wear item. Prolonged wear can lead to skin irritation.
  • This anti-bark collar comes with 5 adjustable sensitivity levels. When using it for the first time, please find the most suitable sensitivity level for your dog to achieve the best anti-barking effect.

Setup

1. Attaching the Collar Strap

The collar strap needs to be threaded through the bark collar device. Ensure the strap is securely fastened through the device's slots and the buckle is correctly assembled. The quick-release buckle allows for easy attachment and removal.

2. Choosing and Installing Contact Points

Select the appropriate contact points (prongs) and covers based on your dog's coat length. For dogs with shorter coats, shorter metal prongs may be sufficient. For longer coats, longer metal prongs might be necessary to ensure proper contact. You can also use insulated covers for reduced sensation or rubber covers for comfort. Screw the chosen contact points firmly into the device.

3. Fitting the Collar

Place the collar around your dog's neck so that the contact points touch the skin. The fit should be snug but not too tight. You should be able to fit one or two fingers comfortably between the collar and your dog's neck. A proper fit is crucial for the device to function correctly and for your dog's comfort. The collar is adjustable from 8 to 27 inches.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On/Off

To power on the device, press and hold the power button until the indicator light illuminates. To power off, press and hold the power button again until the light turns off.

2. Adjusting Sensitivity Levels

The collar has 5 adjustable sensitivity levels (Level 1 to Level 5). Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the device to increase or decrease the sensitivity. Level 5 is the most sensitive, triggering the collar at the slightest bark. Start with a lower sensitivity and adjust as needed to find the optimal level for your dog.

3. Understanding the 7-Stage Correction Sequence

The collar employs a progressive 7-stage correction sequence to humanely deter barking:

  1. 1st Bark: 2-second beep.
  2. 2nd Bark: 3-second beep.
  3. 3rd Bark: 5-second beep + Level 10 shock.
  4. 4th Bark: 5-second beep + Level 20 shock.
  5. 5th Bark: 5-second beep + Level 30 shock.
  6. 6th Bark: 5-second beep + Level 50 shock.
  7. 7th Bark: 5-second beep + Level 80 shock.

After the 7th activation, the collar enters a 60-second protected mode to prevent over-correction, then resets.

4. False Bark Detection

The smart trigger sensor is designed to intelligently recognize your dog's unique bark and filter out other distractions like other dogs barking, head shaking, or external noises such as honking. The collar will only activate when the dog wearing it makes a barking sound.

3. Skin Health Check

Regularly check your dog's neck area where the collar sits for any signs of redness, irritation, or sores. If irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a veterinarian. Ensure the collar is not worn for extended periods without breaks.

Troubleshooting

  • Collar not activating when dog barks:
    • Check battery level and recharge if necessary.
    • Ensure contact points are making proper contact with your dog's skin. Adjust the collar's tightness or use longer contact points if needed.
    • Increase the sensitivity level using the '+' button.
  • Collar activating without dog barking (false triggers):
    • Decrease the sensitivity level using the '-' button.
    • Ensure the collar is not too loose, allowing it to move and rub against other surfaces.
    • Verify that the collar is not picking up vibrations from other sources (e.g., another dog barking very close by, loud noises).
  • Collar not holding a charge:
    • Ensure the charging cable is securely connected to both the device and the power source.
    • Try a different USB charging port or adapter.
    • If the issue persists, refer to the warranty information for support.
  • Dog shows signs of discomfort or irritation:
    • Remove the collar immediately.
    • Check your dog's neck for redness or sores.
    • Ensure the collar is not too tight.
    • Limit wear time to training sessions only.
    • Consult a veterinarian if irritation persists.
