Setup and Installation

Sensor Placement

Choose an open outdoor location for the WH40H rain gauge sensor, ensuring it is level and free from obstructions like trees or buildings that could block rain or RF signals. The sensor transmits data up to 100 meters (328 feet) to the display console. Use the included U-bolt kit or screws for secure mounting.

Display Console Setup

Place the WH5370_C display console indoors, within the 100-meter wireless range of the rain gauge sensor. Ensure it is in a location where you can easily view the data.

Battery Installation

Install 2x AA batteries (not included) into the battery compartment of both the WH40H rain gauge sensor and the WH5370_C display console. Observe correct polarity.

Initial Pairing

Upon battery installation, the display console will automatically search for and connect to the rain gauge sensor. This process may take a few minutes. Ensure both units are powered on and within range.

Operation

Date and Time Settings

The display console features a calendar showing month/day/year (2017-2099, default 2019) and an optional 12/24 hour format. Refer to the display console's buttons (SET, RAIN1+/-, HISTORY, HI/LO) for adjusting these settings.

Indoor Temperature and Humidity Monitoring

The display console includes an integrated sensor that measures indoor temperature and humidity every 60 seconds. It automatically records daily maximum/minimum values with timestamps. Warning notifications can be set for critical temperature/humidity limits.

Rainfall Data Monitoring

The system receives rainfall data every 49 seconds from the WH40H sensor. The display graphically shows rainfall intensity and event data. It also provides warning notifications for rainfall intensity and events. The console stores rainfall history for the past 24 months and daily records for the past 730 days.

Alarms and History

Utilize the integrated and customizable alarm function to plan your daily routine based on weather conditions. The HISTORY button allows you to review past rainfall data.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Rain Collector

Although the WH40H is self-emptying, periodically check the rain collector funnel for debris such as leaves, insects, or dirt that might obstruct the tipping bucket mechanism. Clean with a soft, damp cloth if necessary.

Battery Replacement

Replace batteries in both the sensor and display console when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Use high-quality alkaline batteries for optimal performance.

Troubleshooting

  • No Rainfall Data Displayed:
    • Check if the rain gauge sensor is within the 100m wireless range of the display console.
    • Ensure batteries in both units are fresh and correctly installed.
    • Verify there are no major obstructions (thick walls, metal structures) between the sensor and console.
    • Check for debris in the rain collector that might prevent the tipping bucket from moving.
  • Incorrect Temperature/Humidity Readings:
    • Ensure the display console is not placed near heat sources, direct sunlight, or vents that could affect readings.
    • Allow sufficient time for the sensor to stabilize after initial setup or battery replacement.
  • Display Not Responding:
    • Replace batteries in the display console.
    • Perform a factory reset if available (refer to specific button combinations on the device, not detailed in provided data).

Advanced Connectivity Options (Not for WH5370_C Display)

The WH5370H system, specifically its WH5370_C display console, does not support Wi-Fi connectivity or direct upload of data to online servers. However, the WH40H rain gauge sensor is compatible with other ECOWITT Wi-Fi gateways (e.g., GW1000, GW1100, GW2000, GW3000, HP2550, HP2560) which can enable data upload to platforms like Ecowitt.net, Weather Underground, and Weathercloud. Please note that these gateways are sold separately and are not included with the WH5370H product.

Diagram illustrating how the WH40H rain gauge sensor can connect wirelessly to various Ecowitt Wi-Fi gateways (e.g., HP2550, GW1100, GW1200) to upload data to the Ecowitt Cloud and other weather services. Note: This functionality requires a separate Ecowitt Wi-Fi gateway, not the WH5370_C display console.

Warning: WH5370 Console cannot upload data to servers

Important clarification image stating that the WH5370 Console cannot upload rainfall data directly to online servers like Ecowitt.net, Weathercloud, Weather Underground, or Met Office. The WH40H sensor can connect to a WH5370 display, but the display itself does not have internet connectivity.
