Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the safe and effective operation of your HotGrips. If you are unsure about any step, it is recommended to seek assistance from a qualified motorcycle technician.

Compatibility

  • These grips are designed to fit standard 22mm (7/8 inch) handlebars.
  • The grip length is adjustable: Maximum 120mm – Minimum 110mm. Ensure your handlebar length accommodates this range.

Installation Steps

  1. Remove Existing Grips: Carefully remove your motorcycle's existing handlebar grips. Clean the handlebar surface thoroughly, ensuring it is free from old adhesive or debris.
  2. Test Fit Grips: Slide the new HotGrips onto the handlebars to check for proper fit and length. The open-ended design allows for various bar end accessories.
  3. Secure Grips: Apply a suitable grip adhesive (not included) to the handlebars and slide the HotGrips into place. Ensure the grips are fully seated and oriented correctly. Allow the adhesive to cure as per its instructions.
  4. Mount Controller: The slimline integrated controller is designed to be positioned conveniently next to the HotGrip on your handlebar. Secure it firmly.
  5. Electrical Connection:
    • Connect the weatherproof power connectors (IP67 rated) to the motorcycle's electrical system.
    • For the intelligent heat setting memory function to be active, connect the heat controller to an ignition-switched power source. This ensures the grips remember your last heat setting upon power-up.
    • Ensure all connections are secure and protected from water ingress.

Operating Instructions

Your HotGrips are designed for ease of use with an intuitive integrated controller.

Powering On and Adjusting Heat

  1. Power On: Press the power button on the integrated controller to turn on the grips. The LED indicator will illuminate.
  2. Adjust Heat Settings: Cycle through the 5 available heat settings by pressing the power button repeatedly. Each setting is indicated by a different LED color and corresponds to a specific heat level:
    • Red: 100% heat
    • Purple: 75% heat
    • Green: 50% heat
    • White: 40% heat
    • Blue: 30% heat
  3. Intelligent Heat Setting Memory: If connected to an ignition-switched power source, the grips will remember your last used heat setting and default to it upon the next power-up.
  4. LED Dimming: The LED lights on the controller automatically dim to reduce distraction when riding at night.
  5. Power Off: Continue cycling through the heat settings until the LED turns off, or press and hold the power button for a few seconds to power off.

Battery Saving Mode

The HotGrips feature a battery saving mode to protect against flat batteries. If you forget to turn the grips off, the system will automatically shut down to prevent excessive battery drain. An additional battery saving mode is included for lithium batteries, commonly found in high-performance motorcycles, offering enhanced protection.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Oxford HotGrips, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Clean the grips regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the rubber material.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the grips for any signs of wear, cuts, or damage. Check the wiring and connectors for secure fitment and any signs of fraying or corrosion.
  • Weather Protection: While the power connectors are weatherproof (IP67 rated), it is good practice to keep the electrical components as dry as possible.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, especially during off-season, ensure the grips are clean and dry. Store your motorcycle in a dry, protected environment.
