Assembly Steps
- Secure the pump on the base: Place the pump unit securely onto its designated base.
- Add filter sand or balls: Remove the top valve assembly. Insert the provided plastic insert into the center pipe to prevent sand from entering. Carefully add 50 lbs of filter sand or 1.5 lbs of filter balls into the tank. Ensure the sand/balls are evenly distributed. Remove the plastic insert.
- Install the valve: Place the 6-way valve assembly onto the tank, ensuring it aligns correctly with the center pipe. Secure it with the provided clamp.
- Connect hoses: Use the included 1.5-inch and 1.25-inch hose adapters and conversion kits to connect the pump to your pool's inlet and outlet ports. Ensure all connections are tight and use Teflon tape on threaded connections to prevent leaks.

Operating Instructions
The AQUASTRONG sand filter pump features a user-friendly 6-way valve and a programmable timer for automated operation.
6-Way Valve Functions
The multi-port valve allows you to perform various pool maintenance tasks. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position.
- FILTER: Normal filtering operation. Water passes through the filter media and returns to the pool.
- WASTE: Bypasses the filter, sending water directly out of the waste port. Used for vacuuming heavy debris or lowering pool water level.
- CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter and pump. Use this setting when performing maintenance on the pump or filter.
- BACKWASH: Reverses water flow through the filter to clean the filter media. Water is discharged through the waste port.
- RECIRCULATE: Circulates water through the pump and valve, bypassing the filter. Useful for mixing chemicals without filtering.
- RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush out any remaining debris from the filter lines before returning to FILTER mode.

Programmable Timer
The built-in 24-hour programmable timer allows you to automate filtration cycles. It features 9 settings (2 to 24 hours) for optimal efficiency.
- Set Duration: Press the 'TIMER' button to select the desired running duration from the current time.
- Enable Schedule: Press the 'ON/OFF' button to activate the programmed schedule.
The pump will automatically start at the same time daily according to your set duration.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your sand filter pump.
Backwashing and Rinsing
When the pressure gauge reading increases by 8-10 PSI above its clean operating pressure, or when water flow to the pool noticeably decreases, it's time to backwash the filter.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 6-way valve to 'BACKWASH'.
- Turn on the pump and run until the water flowing out of the waste port is clear (typically 1-2 minutes).
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 6-way valve to 'RINSE'.
- Turn on the pump and run for 30-60 seconds to flush the lines.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 6-way valve back to 'FILTER'.
- Turn on the pump to resume normal filtration.
Pump Basket Cleaning
The pump features a detachable basket design to collect larger debris like leaves and hair before they reach the filter. Regularly check and clean the basket to maintain optimal flow and prevent pump damage.
- Turn off the pump and close any necessary valves to prevent water flow.
- Unscrew the clear lid on the pump housing.
- Remove the basket and empty any collected debris.
- Rinse the basket thoroughly.
- Replace the basket and secure the lid, ensuring the O-ring is properly seated for a watertight seal.
- Open valves and restart the pump.
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your sand filter pump.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Low water flow / Poor filtration | Clogged filter media; Clogged pump basket; Air leak in suction line; Low water level in pool. | Perform backwash and rinse cycle; Clean pump basket; Check all connections for tightness; Ensure adequate pool water level. |
| Water leaking from connections | Loose connections; Damaged O-rings/gaskets; Insufficient Teflon tape on threaded fittings. | Tighten all hose clamps and threaded connections; Inspect and replace damaged O-rings/gaskets; Reapply Teflon tape to threaded fittings. |
| Pump not starting | No power; Motor overload; Impeller jammed. | Check power supply and circuit breaker; Allow motor to cool and reset; Inspect impeller for debris and clear if necessary. |
| Timer not functioning as expected | Incorrect timer setting; Power interruption. | Review and reset timer settings according to instructions; Ensure continuous power supply. |
