4.2. Connecting to Your Device

  1. Connect Power: Plug the 20V 3.25A power adapter into the DC Power Interface on the back of the MiniRaid and then into a wall outlet.
  2. Connect to Host Device: Use the provided USB-C to USB-C cable to connect the MiniRaid's USB-C port (PD60W) to your Mac mini, MacBook Pro, or other compatible host device.
  3. Connect Peripherals: Connect any desired peripherals (monitor via HDMI, Ethernet cable, USB devices, SD/TF cards, audio devices) to the appropriate ports on the MiniRaid.

5. Operating Modes (RAID & Clone)

The ORICO MiniRaid Creator-MR10 supports various storage configurations using its dual M.2 SSD slots. The mode is selected using the RAID Key switches on the back of the unit.

5.1. RAID Modes

WARNING: Please back up all data before changing the RAID mode. Changing modes will erase all data on the installed SSDs.

  • PM (JBOD - Just a Bunch Of Disks): Each SSD operates independently. You will see two separate drives in your system. This mode offers maximum capacity and moderate safety/speed.
  • RAID 0 (Striping): Combines both SSDs into a single logical unit, distributing data across both drives. This significantly increases read/write speeds but offers no data redundancy. If one drive fails, all data is lost. Requires two SSDs.
  • RAID 1 (Mirroring): Creates an exact copy of data on both SSDs. This provides high data redundancy; if one drive fails, the data is still accessible on the other. The total usable capacity is limited to the size of the smaller SSD. Requires two SSDs.

5.2. Offline Cloning Function

The MiniRaid supports offline cloning, allowing you to duplicate the contents of one SSD to another without needing a computer.

  1. Install SSDs: Insert the source SSD into Disk 1 and the target SSD into Disk 2. Ensure the target SSD's capacity is equal to or greater than the source SSD's capacity.
  2. Select Clone Mode: Adjust the RAID Key switches to the 'Copy' position (refer to the diagram on the unit or in the manual).
  3. Start Cloning: Press and hold the 'SET' button on the back of the unit until the indicator lights begin to flash, indicating the cloning process has started.
  4. Monitor Progress: The indicator lights will show the cloning progress (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%).
  5. Completion: Once all lights are solid, the cloning process is complete. Power off the unit before removing the SSDs.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ORICO MiniRaid Creator-MR10, refer to the following common solutions:

8.1. SSD Not Recognized

  • Ensure the SSD is correctly seated in the M.2 slot and secured with the rubber fastener.
  • Verify that the SSD is compatible (NVMe or SATA M.2 2230/2242/2260/2280).
  • Check the RAID mode settings. If using PM mode, ensure both drives are properly initialized in your operating system's disk management utility.
  • If using M.2 SSDs with different protocols, only the drive in Slot 1 may be recognized.
  • Try connecting the MiniRaid to a different USB-C port or computer to rule out host-side issues.

8.2. Slow Data Transfer Speeds

  • Ensure you are using a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) compatible port on your host device.
  • Verify the quality of the USB-C cable. Use the provided cable or a certified 10Gbps USB-C cable.
  • Check the SSD's performance. SATA SSDs will be slower than NVMe SSDs.
  • If in RAID 1 mode, write speeds may be affected by the mirroring process. RAID 0 offers the highest speeds.

8.3. Display Issues via HDMI

  • Ensure the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the MiniRaid and the monitor.
  • Verify that your monitor supports 4K@60Hz.
  • Check your operating system's display settings to ensure the external display is detected and configured correctly (mirror or extend mode).
  • Ensure your host device's USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode.

8.4. Power Delivery (PD) Not Working

  • Ensure the external power adapter is connected to the MiniRaid and a working power outlet.
  • Verify that your host device supports USB-C Power Delivery.
  • Check the power requirements of your device; the MiniRaid provides up to 60W PD.
