PETLAYSON M1 & M1 Pro
PET LAYSON Cat Water Fountain Filter Replacements
For M1 and M1 Pro (2.6L/88oz) Models
Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the proper use, installation, and maintenance of PET LAYSON replacement filters for your M1 or M1 Pro cat water fountain. Regular filter replacement is crucial for maintaining water quality and the longevity of your fountain.
Preparation and Installation
Before installing a new filter, follow these steps to ensure optimal performance and water purity.

Figure 1: Filter Preparation. The image illustrates the two essential steps before first use: soaking the filter in water for 2-5 minutes, and then rinsing it under running water for 30 seconds to remove any loose carbon particles.
- Soak the Filter: Submerge the new filter completely in clean water for 2-5 minutes. This helps to remove any air trapped within the filter material.
- Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the filter under running water for at least 30 seconds. This step is important to wash away any loose activated carbon dust that may be present.
- Remove Old Filter: Turn off and unplug your PET LAYSON M1 or M1 Pro cat water fountain. Carefully remove the old filter from its designated slot.
- Insert New Filter: Place the prepared new filter into the filter tray of your fountain. Ensure it is seated correctly and securely. Refer to the installation method image for correct orientation.

Figure 2: Correct Filter Orientation. This image displays two setups: one with the filter correctly installed (left, indicated by a green checkmark) and one with the filter incorrectly installed (right, indicated by a red 'X'). Ensure the filter is placed with the correct side facing up as shown in the 'correct' example.
After installation, refill the fountain with fresh water and plug it back in. The fountain is now ready for use with the new filter.
Filter Operation and Filtration System
The PET LAYSON replacement filter utilizes a multi-layer filtration system designed to provide clean and fresh water for your pet.

Figure 3: Multi-layer Filtration System. This diagram details the four layers of the filter: 1. Non-woven Fabric (filters pet hair and dust), 2. Ion Exchange Resin (removes heavy metal ions), 3. Activated Carbon (eliminates odors), and 4. Sponge (filters pet hair and debris).
- Non-woven Fabric: The first layer captures larger particles such as pet hair and dust.
- Ion Exchange Resin: This layer is responsible for removing heavy metal ions from the water.
- Activated Carbon: Coconut shell activated carbon effectively absorbs impurities and eliminates unpleasant odors, improving water taste.
- Sponge: The final layer provides additional filtration for pet hair and debris, ensuring comprehensive water purification.
Maintenance and Replacement Schedule
Regular replacement of the filter is essential to maintain the effectiveness of the filtration system and ensure your pet always has access to clean water.

Figure 4: Filter Replacement. The image shows a hand carefully removing or inserting a filter into the fountain's filter slot. The accompanying text advises replacing the filter within 2-3 weeks for optimal performance.
- Replacement Frequency: It is recommended to replace the filter every 2-3 weeks. For households with multiple pets or pets that shed heavily, more frequent replacement (every 1-2 weeks) may be necessary to prevent hair and debris buildup.
- Cleaning the Fountain: When replacing the filter, it is also a good opportunity to clean the entire water fountain thoroughly to prevent bacterial growth and maintain hygiene.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your filter, consider the following:
- Coconut Fiber Leakage: If you observe small black particles (coconut fiber) in the water bowl, this is typically loose activated carbon. Ensure you have thoroughly rinsed the filter for at least 30 seconds under running water before installation. If particles persist, rinse the filter again. If the issue continues after multiple rinses, the filter may be defective.
- Reduced Water Flow: A clogged filter can reduce water flow. If water flow decreases significantly, check the filter for excessive debris or hair and replace it if necessary, even if it's before the recommended replacement interval.
- Unpleasant Odor/Taste: If the water develops an odor or taste, the activated carbon in the filter may be saturated. Replace the filter immediately.
