2. Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble your SUNPOW MD13 Metal Detector:

1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure you have the main control unit, adjustable stem, search coil, armrest, headphones, foldable shovel, and two 9V batteries.
2. Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the main control unit and insert the two 9V batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
3. Attach Search Coil: Connect the search coil to the lower stem using the provided bolt and washers. Ensure the washers are properly seated in the slots to prevent wobbling.
4. Assemble Stem: Connect the lower stem (with the search coil) to the middle stem, and then connect the middle stem to the upper stem. The stem is adjustable to suit different user heights.
5. Mount Control Unit: Slide the main control unit onto the top of the upper stem. Secure it in place.
6. Connect Search Coil Cable: Wrap the search coil cable neatly around the stem and plug the connector into the port on the main control unit. Ensure a snug fit.
7. Attach Armrest: Secure the armrest to the upper stem. Adjust its position for comfortable use.
8. Connect Headphones: Plug the headphones into the designated audio jack on the control unit.

3.1 Control Panel Overview

3.2 Detection Modes

The MD13 offers four distinct detection modes:

• All Metal Mode: Detects all types of metals. Ideal for general treasure hunting when you want to find everything.
• Notch Mode: Allows you to eliminate unwanted metals. You can selectively ignore certain metal types (e.g., iron, pull tabs) to focus on more valuable targets.
• Pinpoint Mode (PP): Used to precisely locate the target once a general area has been identified. This helps in minimizing digging and quickly retrieving the item.
• Memory Mode: Detects only the memorized metal type. This is useful for repeatedly searching for a specific type of target.

3.3 Target Identification and Depth

The large LCD screen provides clear information about detected targets:

• Target ID: A numerical value (0-99) indicates the probable type of metal. Different ranges correspond to different metals (e.g., iron, 5-cent coins, 1-cent coins, 10-cent coins, 25-cent coins, 50-cent coins).
• Depth Indicator: Shows the approximate depth of the detected object, helping you determine how deep to dig.
• Audio Tones: The detector emits distinct audio tones for different metal types, allowing for identification without constantly looking at the screen.

3.4 Search Coil Usage

The 8-inch search coil is IP68 waterproof, allowing for detection in shallow water. Note: The control box is not waterproof and should not be submerged.
