Operating Instructions
The Alera Wessex chair offers several adjustable features to customize your seating experience:
Seat Height Adjustment
To adjust the seat height, locate the lever on the right side, beneath the seat. While seated, pull the lever up to lower the seat. To raise the seat, stand up and pull the lever up. Release the lever at the desired height to lock it in place.
Tilt and Tension Control
The chair features a tilt function with adjustable tension and a tilt lock. The tilt tension knob is located underneath the seat, at the front. Turn the knob clockwise to increase tilt resistance (making it harder to recline) or counter-clockwise to decrease resistance (making it easier to recline). The tilt lock lever, typically located next to the height adjustment lever, allows you to lock the backrest in an upright position or enable the rocking motion.
Armrest Configuration
The chair's armrests are fixed but can be assembled with or without them. If you prefer a chair without armrests for greater freedom of movement or to fit under a specific desk, simply omit them during the assembly process.

Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance helps prolong the life and appearance of your chair.
- Cleaning: For the mesh back and fabric seat, use a soft cloth dampened with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals. Spot clean as needed.
- Inspection: Periodically check all screws and fasteners to ensure they are tight. Re-tighten if necessary to maintain stability and safety.
- Casters: Keep casters free of hair and debris to ensure smooth rolling.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your chair, refer to the following common solutions:
- Chair not rolling smoothly: Check casters for obstructions (hair, dirt). Clean if necessary. Ensure casters are fully inserted into the base.
- Seat height not adjusting: Verify the gas lift lever is fully engaged. If the issue persists, the gas lift cylinder may need replacement.
- Chair squeaks: Check all assembly screws and tighten them. A small amount of silicone spray on moving parts (avoiding the gas lift cylinder) may help.
- Chair feels unstable: Ensure all screws are securely tightened, especially those connecting the seat, backrest, and mechanism plate. Do not exceed the weight capacity.
